The Good: PILLOWS!!!! Best hotel pillows ever. Location. Great location with easy access to most everything. The Bad: Room was filthy. Inch of dust on all surfaces, dust bunnies in the corners of the bathroom, floor looks like it hadn't been wet mopped in forever. The first day the room was cleaned they replaced the coffee but didn't leave any cups, and that remained status quo for the remainder of the trip. Dirty dishes were left in our room after it was "cleaned". Blackout curtains have holes in them. If you're on the river side, be prepared to be startled in the middle of the night by the large cargo ships that go by and blare their horn. It was also very inconvenient that the elevator access to River Street was shut off for the weekend. I completely understand the reasoning, given it was St. Patrick's Day, but it was one of the main reasons this property was selected. Had this trip not have been supplied by a vendor, who was traveling with us, I would have been standing in front of the desk asking for a new room, or at least a clean one, 10 minutes after checking in. I read all of the reviews, with similar complaints, prior to the trip but tried to remain open minded...they are true. At least in room 511. …
The Cotton Sail was the perfect hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary weekend in Savannah. The staff members were incredible. Special recognition for Brian at the front desk. The team surprised us with a room amenity to celebrate the occasion, and numerous staff members verbally wished us a Happy Anniversary throughout the weekend. We spent 3 nights in a River View King room on the 4th floor. Our room’s Juliet balcony allowed us to waive at the Riverboat cruisers and shipping boats, and watch the all the action along the Savannah River. We also loved the comfy bed, high ceilings, and strong air conditioning. The soundproofing of the room was excellent, and we rarely heard any street noise, which can be a big issue in some other nearby Savannah hotels. We enjoyed the short walks from the Cotton Sail to see the recent revitalization of new shops and restaurants that have opened on River Street and all around the historic district.. The Cotton Sail valets staff were very hard-working in 95 degree heat, and we felt that the daily valet fee was well worth it. We are Hilton Diamond members, and we love visiting Savannah. We’ll definitely be back to stay the Cotton Sail Hotel!…
I just arrived to the hotel and I had to write a review because I was petrified to stay here after reading about the smells, the mold, the service, the noise etc…. I was about to cancel my reservation but I decided to just deal with it. WELL to my surprise the stay and my experience was SUPERB!!! Checkin went smooth. My room was ready on time. I was recognized as a diamond member. My room, 511 did not smell. I actually loved my room. It was clean, spacious, facing the river with a balcony. Try the hotel for yourself. It's in the perfect location. The room DID NOT smell, nor did I see any mold
Dropping off the car was slow at the valet. If you're there as a couple have one jump out and check in while the other waits for valet. Check in was quick and very friendly. One elevator was out causing long waits at times. Our room was on the street level (4th floor) city side and it can get quite noisy at times with motor noise from the street and people talking outside your window. Maybe up higher or river side would be better. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. The floor was wood but was interesting in that our sneakers felt sticky on the floor (like a bad movie theater) as we walked around but going around in socks seemed fine. The bathroom door opened the wrong way causing coordination to get in and out into the main room with the narrow hall. This was an accessible room and I'm not sure how someone with a wheelchair would navigate it. The bathroom had limited counter space to store toiletries. Everything was very clean and worked well. The rooftop restaurant was good for breakfast and dinner. No fruit on the weekends for breakfast. The staff is very friendly. Nice views. I will most likely try the nearby Hilton Garden Inn nearby on my return. Its on the other side of the street away from the river but its not a far walk to get there and much cheaper.…
As a Hi.ton Diamond member I have stayed in hotels from Moscow to Australia and all over the USA. I have never been treated with as much disdain or disrespect as at this hotel. As a Diamond Hilton Honors member I booked this hotel anticipating the level of service that loyalty usually deserves but I would have received more service at the local motel 6. All of the rooms on level 3 are a smelly health hazard with front desk staff trained to offer a range of excuses from overflowing refrigerators to the 200 year old building and whilst we can appreciate the difficulties an heritage building may present the default of not even trying to mop the floors is not satisfactory DO NOT DTAY HERE do you4 self a favor and book the Marriott or the Bohemian
We were placed in a room on an alley with men smoking outside. The television does not work and the air conditioning is via a wall unit. This feels like a cheap motel rather than one of the most expensive hotels in the area. Very disappointing for a Hilton property. Already would say not to stay here.
This is a high-cost hotel. We spent over $300/day for a room. We took a birthday trip to Savannah and I decided to splurge on a riverfront hotel with a balcony. I had visions of sitting out on the balcony, sipping a cold drink watching the river go by. Sadly. that's not possible. The "balcony" was only 18 inches deep. It's absolutely impossible to fit a chair of any description. So you can stand there, but that's all. Next, our 5th floor room was subject to a LOT of noise from upstairs. It sounded like someone was dragging tables across the floor all night until about 10 PM. Then there's the street noise, with big commercial trucks driving down the cobblestone street. All that means that it's hard to get to sleep. Otherwise, the hotel was nice. Everything was clean and tidy as you would expect from a premium Hilton property. Finally, like other hotels on the river, there's a $49/day charge to park your car - and valet is mandatory, so they expect a tip when you park and when you pick up your car, so add at least another $10/day. That's annoying, but as long as you know going in, you really can't complain. My advice is to skip the balcony and enjoy the rest of the hotel.…
I stayed at the Cotton Sail a few weeks ago. Shon Gibbons the manager has no business working in customer service. Very poor people skills. A lot of the staff have bad attitudes. Vey disappointing considering this is a Hilton Hotel.
We had a little difficulty with the gps locating the front door. The valet & front desk were both extremely helpful and friendly once we located the building. We enjoyed our rooms. We would prefer to have a fridge though. Location is awesome!
When arriving at the hotel, we did not know that we couldn’t enter from River street (where GPS took us) after a certain hour. The signage is very poor and we should have received an email with this info prior. Instead, we gathered our things from our car, walked up to the dark entrance, just to see a small sign that the entrance is closed. We didn’t know here was a second entrance and had to call. When we got to the front of the hotel, it was still very dark with poor signage. The bohemian and Hyatt next door were much better lit. We did not feel safe as it was 1am when we arrived and it was so dark. There were a couple intoxicated guys yelling at eachother, as well as people covered up with blankets sleeping next to the property, while we were clearly lost tourists fumbling to find where to go with our bags. We felt very safe during the day, but Riverstreet isn’t a family place after hours. The first night was okay in terms of cleanliness. However, the second night, after showering, we placed our used towels on the floor (nowhere else to set them). A couple hours later, around midnight they and the floor beside the shower were absolutely CRAWLING with fire ants. Hundreds of them. I only noticed when I was standing in front of the sink and they started biting me. I called the front desk and the lady came up. She was very nice, couldn’t find any bug spray, but she did spray them with some cleaning chemicals. She was clearly embarrassed and felt bad, she was apologetic and said there’s no other rooms, no maintenance person there. The chemicals did kill the ants, but were really irritating to us to go into the bathroom until in the morning when I ran the shower to air it out. We didn’t have food in there and had kept the room very clean, I have no idea why the ants were there but it was definitely nothing that we did wrong. The floors are old and wood, and that’s fine, but you can see footprints from previous guests. So, while they probably do sweep the floor, they definitely didn’t mop before our stay. We normally stay at the Westin across the river and will continue to do so after this experience.…
