Located near historic Savannah, this park borders Skidaway narrows, a part of Georgia’s intracoastal waterway. Trails wind through maritime forest and past salt marsh, leading to a boardwalk and observation tower. Visitors can watch for deer, fiddler crabs, raccoon, egrets and other wildlife. Inside the park’s interpretive center, birders will find binoculars, reference books and a window where they can look for migrating species such as Painted Buntings. Children will especially enjoy seeing the towering, 20-foot Giant Ground Sloth replica and reptile room. A scenic campground is nestled under live oaks and Spanish moss, while groups can enjoy privacy in their own pioneer campgrounds. Open-air picnic shelters and an enclosed group shelter are popular spots for parties, reunions and other celebrations.

We stayed in the "A" cabin. This cabin is just right for 2 adults but I wouldn't bring any children. The stairway is very narrow and steep going up into the loft and you have to crawl around up there to put linens on the beds. The beams of the ceiling are exposed and a child or adult could get a head injury. The clearance is only @ 3 ft. There is also an open railing to the first floor below that a small child could climb or fall over. There are 2 tv's with local channels. There is no dvd player. You bring your own linens, towels, pillows, cookware, plates, cups, utensils, dishwashing liq., etc. Toiletries are provided. When I called to see if pillows were provided, the woman I spoke with could not understand English very well and said that the cabins had pillows. When we arrived, we found out that pillows are not in the cabins and we had to buy some. The stove has 2 settings no matter what you set it on which is high and low heat. The trails are beautiful and we felt safe there. One thing that freaked me out was that one of the rangers had a live snake in the visitor center but she said it was non venomous. The place is quiet and clean. There is central air and heating in the cabins, and indoor bathroom with shower and hot water. Parking is $5 your entire stay.

I loved my stay in the small camper cabin. It is smaller than your typical Georgia State Park cabin, but was still nice. The A/C worked great, the mattress was comfortable, and I really liked the all-wood interior. The shower/bathroom is tiny, but everything worked just fine and was clean. The only problem was in the kitchen with the light under the microwave that you use to illuminate the stove below. That light didn't work. The couch could use some Febreze as it was stinky. This cabin would be good for parents with a couple of preteens. The upstairs loft bedroom can be accessed by adults, but the stairwell is very tight, and an adult can not stand up in the loft, but it would be good for kids. You will need to bring your own linens/blankets for the beds, as well as towels for the bathroom. The park was quiet and there are several restaurants nearby, as well as a supermarket. There were hardly any bugs (I was there when it was still somewhat chilly in April) which allowed us to enjoy using the picnic table outside. The trails were well marked and the staff at the visitor center were friendly and helpful. The campground itself seemed cramped in spots, although parking for the cabin was large enough. The camping area was clean and nicely shaded.

The RV park at Skidaway Island State Park is beautiful, with spacious sites amidst mature trees. It was a bit challenging to maneuver our big rig (40ft) through some of the road and turns, but once in our reserved site, we were fine. The camping sites all have a concrete patio, with a picnic table and grill.
We were at Skidaway for a long weekend, and it was generally quiet at all times.

We picked up our map at the office but had trouble finding our site. We asked a camp host for help to our site, and he brought us in the wrong direction. Then poof he was gone. We had to go back through all the tight turns to find a place to turn around. There are lots of trees with very low hanging branches which we missed by inches. Roots have created very bumpy spots in the interior blacktop roads. Our site was somewhat level and sandy which was messy. The site is not well defined – just a large sandy area near utilities which were W/E only. The straight in pull thru sites with full hookups are the easiest to get in and out of as far as tree dodging and are the nicest sites. Despite all the trees and decent spacing, there is no privacy. No satellite coverage and no cable (anymore) but we did get digital over the air channels. Verizon was 4g 1-3 bars depending on where the phone was located. There is no WII FI. Busy during the day with lots of kids riding bikes and lots of campfires. Bug spray is a must if you plan on being outside. There are trails but we didn’t try any of them due to the bug issue. It is nicely quiet at night. It is about a 25-30 minute drive to Savannah depending on traffic. We would return again if we could get a full hook up site.

This park was absolutely stunning! We stayed for four nights in our travel trailer. The park is very well-kept and has very nice bathrooms with hot showers. There are also wonderful hiking trails throughout the park that walk through the marshlands, palm and pine trees. Park is around 20 minutes from downtown Savannah and 40 minutes from Tybee Island.

Great two week stay at a fabulous state park. Sites are extraordinarily spacious and the ones in section 2 are fairly private. Much nicer park than Jekyll Island. The bathhouses are older but well maintained. Would definitely stay here again.

Toilet not working, we had to repair. Door threshold broken and loose; we gently placed, as others before us had. We didn’t use upstairs but ceiling height would make unusable for any adult. High priced for not being well taken care of. Very large campers, bus size.
Pluses are canopy of live oaks with hanging epiphytes, close proximity to unbelievable treasure Savannah, and walking trails.

The reason I gave it a 4/5 is the roadways! Getting our 5th wheel through there was a nightmare, our only saving grace was that we had a pull-through site. Very narrow/tall trees right up to the edges (especially in curves)/and root systems which make for very uneven pavement.
Other than that, it was very quiet, nice hiking trails, large pavilions, great areas to bike, nice information center, gorgeous drive, and close to some of the areas attractions.

There is so much to see and do in this gorgeous Georgia State Park. As you enter, the sight of the many Live Oaks draped with Spanish Moss will surely take your breath away. We were directed to the visitor center to check in. The people working there are nice, helpful and accomodating. Most sites are large (AND I MEAN LARGE) pull-throughs. The restrooms and laundry facilities were clean and in good working order. A part of the Colonial Coastal Bird Trail, take some time if you're there during the Spring and Summer months to spot a Painted Bunting. The Visitor's Center is a great place to see them. We went on a three mile bike ride on The Big Ferry Trail where we saw the remains of an old liquor still; and The Earthworks, defense mounds built by slaves during the Civil War. The park is very close to Downtown Savannah.

Fantastic campground. Virtually all of the campsites are spacious and private. Almost all have shade of some kind. Wildlife is plentiful. In the 4 days we stayed there we saw deer, racoon, armadillo, barred owl and of course squirrels. The bathhouses are clean. We did not think the state park itself was anything to write home about. It does have a couple of nice/scenic trails but the campground was amazing. Only drawback we saw was that our fireplace ring was almost completely rusted out.
