I was in historic Savannah for business with the spouse tagging along for fun and initially chose the hotel for convenience of location and price. We've stayed in lots of good B&Bs over the years, including in Savannah, and the Eliza Thompson is definitely the BEST experience we've ever had. The staff are SUPER friendly and helpful, the food and atmosphere are amazing and the "happy hour" and "dessert and port" in the evenings encourage socializing among the guests in a low-key manner. Even the bathrobes in the guest rooms are so comfy I bought one to take home! We will definitely stay there again anytime we return to Savannah!

This is the perfect location for a quiet getaway in an adults-only setting. Located on beautiful Jones Street, The Eliza Thompson Inn gives you the feeling of stepping back in time from the furnishings to the hospitality which the South is so well known for. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by Jen and Josh who were so warm, welcoming and very helpful.
Our room, the R. Bruce located in the Main House, overlooks beautiful Jones Street. The furnishings were gorgeous, and the bed so very comfortable. Shavatica did such a wonderful job ensuring that everything was clean and in place upon our return each evening.
The day started with a delicious brunch in the courtyard at a time of our choosing. Two options are given for the main course (frittata, quiche, waffles with jam and others) plus sides of biscuits and gravy, toast, fruit and so on plus juices, coffee or tea. Everything was always so delicious, fresh and cooked perfectly. The wait staff also went above and beyond to ensure that everything was to our liking. (There is an additional charge for brunch, but it is well worth the cost and convenience in a beautiful, peaceful setting.) Complimentary and quite delicious light hors d'oeuvres and wine are served in the parlor each evening at 5 p.m. Then, a complimentary and very scrumptious dessert and port is served at 8 p.m. each evening. (Coffee, soft drinks and bottled water are still offered and available at any time - day or night.)
If walking is an issue, a hop-on, hop-off trolley is available within a block or so, or one of the staff will be more than happy to call for a trolley shuttle to pick you up and deliver you to the welcome center. However, once your ticket is purchased, you are able to begin your trolley ride at any of the fifteen or more stops. Popular restaurants, shops, Forsyth Park and so much else are also within walking distance.
We suggest taking an Uber from the airport as we rented a car for the week and never used it until the day before our departure (as the trolley provided everything we needed up to that time) when we visited Wormsloe and Tybee Island. Uber services were great and timely. Plus, parking costs add up.
Somewhere it states, “live like a local”, and that is truly how we felt. We will definitely go back!

This is a great place to stay in Savannah. It's on a quiet and picturesque street within walking distance to pretty much everything downtown. You won't need a car if you just plan on staying in the central part of Savannah. Transportation to/from the airport was easy with taxis and ridesharing services.
Our room faced the street, and there wasn't any bothersome street noise. We slept well. Daily housekeeping ( a rarity since COVID in our experience) kept the room clean, made the bed, and supplied fresh towels and toiletries.
The room had a lot of character with nice wood floors, a poster bed, and a sitting area with armchairs. All the rooms are different, as described on the hotel website.
We liked the nightly appetizers, wine, and desserts in the parlor. It gives you a chance to meet other guests and hang out. Self-service coffee, tea, and hot chocolate were always available there, too. The daily made to order breakfast was also very good. Every evening, you get to choose what you'd like off a menu (the main breakfast entree choices change daily) and the time you'd like to eat the next morning. The WiFi worked well. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and the hotel provides nice amenities, like free umbrellas and rain ponchos should you need them.

My 3rd annual visit was very comfortable and pleasant as usual.
(Initially when planning my visit this year, in an effort to economize, I had researched extensively and booked a different B&B which was cheaper by $300 for a 4-night stay (not an insignificant amount). HOWEVER, within 15 minutes of my arrival at this “other” B&B,” I unfortunately had to complain about something significantly uncomfortable in my room, and was horrified at the unprofessional response, which didn’t bode at all well for the rest of my stay.
I knew then that it was worth paying a bit more to be happy on vacation, and so I called Eliza Thompson to see if they could put me up last minute. They (Jennifer) kindly found me a room that worked for me, and I wound up being so happy to be back to a well-run establishment with a focus on guest satisfaction (ET), instead of a poorly-run establishment (the ‘other’ place) where you might save some money but you will feel it!
ET has attractively decorated rooms w comfortable beds, excellent breakfast, and gracious service, including little details like available sunscreen, mosquito repellent, rain ponchos, and umbrellas. Jones St, where the house is situated, is known as the prettiest street in town, which is saying a LOT in one of the country’s prettiest towns. Breakfast is served in a beautiful courtyard by warm and efficient staff.
To me, the location is perfect, as it is far enough removed from the hubbub and tackiness of the river front, yet near enough to walk there easily when or if you want to visit there (and if u want some pralines or a riverboat ride). Being further away from the river has its advantages, as it puts you just a couple of blocks north of Forsyth Park and its fountain - one of the iconic landmarks in Savannah and a lovely place to visit, walk, and take photos.
Melody, the Innkeeper, has a lovely calm and peaceful vibe, is very kind, and highly focused on guest comfort and satisfaction. It was her wonderful hospitality and memorable activity recommendations upon my first visit 3 years ago that have brought me back for repeated visits, and made me, as a guest, feel appreciated and welcomed.
I can’t wait to go back.

The location is excellent and it's on one of the prettiest streets in Savannah. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was so-so. You have to order the night before (getting one of two main choices), so I think the food may be cooked at another location and brought there and heated up. It was mediocre so we only ate there once. The reception area and parlor could use a decorative update as the furniture and upholstery looked worn and the walls could use a new coat of paint. Our room was on the ground floor (basement, really), and it was terribly damp, humid and cold. We couldn't change the temperature effectively to make the room warmer and more comfortable. The bathroom was dimly lit and also could be brought into the 21st century. All in all, there is nothing terribly wrong with the inn - it just wasn't a 4-star accommodation in my book and I will look to stay elsewhere when returning to Savannah.

Thank you for taking the time happytravelerx4 to let us know how your stay went! Although there were features of the B&B you enjoyed, we are sad to hear that the room was not to your liking. We do have guest that enjoy the ground level, for ease of private access, but we understand that's not for everyone. Had we known about any temperature troubles, we would have been happy to assist & correct! Especially with how humid Savannah can get, trust me we understand. :) I do want to assure you, breakfast is made in-house at Eliza Thompson. And we can always be flexible to offer you different options at request. If your travel plans bring you back to Savannah, please don't hesitate to give us a direct call, that way we can find the best room option for you! Kind Regards, Melody Campbell Innkeeper

We have stayed at ETH multiple times over the past 13 years and unlike today's hotels, after all that time the condition of physical facility seems unchanged. (In a good way.) They do an excellent job of maintaining the building property. I'm sure there have been improvements in wireless technology and air conditioning, but the rooms, lobby, and patio seem frozen in time - in a welcoming, comfortable Southern style. The staff is excellent, always helpful and smiling. The breakfasts are by order the night before, the wine and hors d'oeuvres from 5:30-7:00PM is a chance to visit with other travelers, and the Port wine and dessert from 8:00 to 9:00 might run a bit longer into the evening. The location is great, it's just north of Forsythe Park in the southern end of the Historic District. Park your car on the street for a $15.00/day fee and just walk, uber, tour trolley or bicycle rickshaw everywhere. It's a 15 minute walk north to the river and maybe 10 minutes east to west. The trolley has 15 different stops and you can get on or off all day at any of the stops, $40/day per person. For first time visitors, taking a guided round trip will help you get oriented to the city. You need to make dinner reservations the day before or more, as although there are many restaurants, by noon they are usually booked for the evening in season.

I stayed 3 nights at the Eliza Thopson House as part of a mother-daughter trip to Savannah. The location is beautiful in a quiet residential area and within walking distance of everything you could want to see and do. The staff was exceptionally friendly and welcoming. We stayed in the Julian Suite. The room was larger than expected for a historic property. The bathroom was small as expected, but met our needs. The beds were very comfortable, and the towels and robes were nice quality. There was plenty of hot water with good water pressure in the shower. The breakfast two of the three mornings was exceptional. The evening wine (white, red, rose') and snacks were nice and included cheese, olives and a hot h'ordourve. The later dessert and port service was not as good as the wine and cheese service. There was only one dessert option offered and the port was not very good quality. It would have been nice to have another dessert. I appreciated that there was water and coffee available 24 hours. There were a few minor issues with our room. The toilet ran constantly (small trickle) and the exhaust fan in the bathroom roared when running (probably needs to be replaced). We just kept the bathroom door closed to manage the noise created by the toilet. The room didn't seem to get cool enough for our preference. We are both hot-natured and like to sleep in a very cool/cold room. I realize this probably isn't any issue for most people. All that said, I think this is a great choice and would recommend it.

We knew nothing about Savannah when we booked our stay with the Eliza Thompson House. We were thrilled to learn its history (oldest home on Jones St) and found the location perfect for walking to all the key spots in the Savanna area. The staff were "Four Seasons" exceptional. From the minute we checked in until we got in the car to leave, we felt welcomed and appreciated. A casual mention that our vacation was partially a celebration of my wife's 65th birthday resulted in the staff placing a complementary iced bottle of champaign and a personal birthday card to her in our room. It was a lovely touch. The breakfasts were fantastic and not to be missed. Perhaps the best part of the stay was the wine and cheese gatherings each evening. They gave us a chance to meet and connect with the other residents from across the country and the globe. Definitely our return-to spot in the future.

We had a fabulous stay at the Historic Eliza Thompson House on the famous Best street in Savannah , Jones Street. All within walking distance to all the squares on down to the River Street, the innkeeper Melody Campbell helped me with printing my business emails so that I could relax and enjoy the Southern Hospitality. Wonderful breakfast , fabulous courtyard , excellent location. We walked our feet off seeing the Historic places of Savannah and eating at the great sea food restaurants and The Grey ( wow just wow). In the evening they served wine and appetizers , later port and cake/desert while The host told old stories of Savannah, It was World Series week so I got to watch the games on our TV in the luxury of our room. Plenty of room for your belongings in the bathroom and room drawers. Just fabulous. Can’t wait to go back. If you want a slice of Southern Hospitality and respect here’s your destination. I hope I haven’t reduced my chances of coming back again but hey I’m from Maui -Hawaii and it all about the Aloha. Just to show you how good this place is , the locals come take their vacations and walk arounds at the Eliza.

I will never stay anywhere else in Savannah but here. This was the most enjoyable hotel experience I’ve ever had. The staff is incredibly friendly and hospitable. The house and the outdoor courtyard are beautiful and well kept. The cocktail hour wine and cheese, and dessert and port tasting was the cherry on top. They also had live music while we were there! The rooms are perfectly maintained- they uphold the vintage historic charm while keeping the important things updated and modern (shower, sink, AC). This was an absolutely incredible stay, with no complaints. Ever aspect of this hotel is thoughtfully considered and perfectly executed.

Regarding breakfast, you'll get a menu the day before, and you choose your breakfast items as well as the time you want. I think the earliest was 8 am, and I don't recall the ending time. Coffee is available 24/7 in the parlor room.
There are more places to choose from in the Savannah area.
