If you want to stay in a boardinghouse like one in an Anne Tyler novel this is the place. The property is well located, and large. The beds have clean sheets and pillowcases. The rooms are reasonable size. However the pillows are old and have a bit of a smell. Actually the whole place smelled kind of doggy. Air conditioning... More

This review probably won't make much difference, as this property will now no longer be a public hotel. Still, I want to report on the bad experience. 4 E. Madison is well located in the Mount Vernon district, a lively historic area in often scruffy downtown Baltimore. The house seems like it must have been someone's grand home at one... More

This historic home is beautiful. The staircase is grand, and the owners have taken great care with the sitting room that makes it feel like you are walking into 1850. When I arrived, there was a holiday party in process and some children had commandeered the piano. It was a sweet scene, I thought I'd walked into the Nutcracker. I... More

I found this inn on the "Hallmark Cedar Cove stay at an inn" list and am extremely pleased with our visit. If you want a hotel, don't bother, but if you want to stay in a historic inn, this is your spot. The rooms are wonderful, the house is fabulous, the food was delicious, the parking was tricky (just call... More

We were really looking forward to our stay on a recent visit to JHU. Owner was very friendly and helpful on the phone, but we were greeted by a musty smell, dirty rugs, pillows and bedding that looked ancient, and a bathroon that had us looking for clorox wipes. the furniture in our room was dilapidated-- more thrift shop than... I found this place online just by luck, I just needed a bed to sleep in however from the moment I walked into the building, I knew that I was in a very very special place. Betty, the sweet lady who owns the hotel is always kind and friendly. It was really a pleasure to meet with her. I was... More

My wife and I stayed here after a concert at Meyerhoff. Consequently, it was a short walk. We really appreciated the historic beauty and he friendly welcome by the owner Betty. The room was clean and luxurious. Breakfast in the morning was satisfying and paired with friendly conversation. My only fear is that Betty is trying to sell. Who knows... More

We loved this place. It has everything you will not find in a typical hotel, personality, atmosphere, a connection to the city in which it located, books, and an owner-operator who has read them. If you need flat-screens, blazing broadband, and celebrity bartenders, look elsewhere. Personally, I find the allegation of credit card fraud ludicrous.

I believe that recent postings were overly critical. Someone attending an event at Club Hippo is probably of a younger generation who prefers more modern surroundings. However, one should expect a 19th century home to be different from a modern hotel.. We had a slight problem finding the parking area (parking was included, unlike other facilities in the area) but... More

This was the worst place I have ever stayed. My friend and I needed a place near to Club Hippo because we were attending a Sunday night party there. It was only a few blocks to walk, so from that standpoint, it was perfect. Otherwise, it was terrible. The room was very dirty. I had to push a rug under... More
