Pros: -Great location, nearby (within walking distance) to many restaurants, shops, museums, and even the battlefield -Free parking -Free wifi -Bathrooms were clearly recently updated/renovated -Friendly/helpful staff -The "free breakfast" is danish and coffee, nothing extravagant but just a heads up -I did appreciate that there were three locks on each door (one being a deadbolt), especially since our room door opened to the outside
Cons: -I was informed when booking that the motel would provide a hair dryer. There was not one in my room, but I called the front desk and they offered me a spare one that is shared among all of the rooms I guess? I got lucky that I was able to use it and return it at the end of our trip. -The rooms are clearly outdated, and you can tell from photos. This is no secret. However, my husband and I were uncomfortable sleeping in the bedsheets at all, so we went to Walmart nearby (a short drive) and stocked up on blankets. I saw another guest (when checking out) who had also brought their own blankets -The bathrooms were updated, however, there were bugs in the ceiling light, which was off-putting -The TV was so outdated that the picture quality was poor (a gripe from my husband)
All in all, you get what you pay for. This was a nice enough stay for the few nights we had it. Would I stay here again? Probably not, as there are a number of other nearby places that probably have some historical charm.. and are cleaner. This motel is not significantly cheaper than its competition, so I will pass on it in the future. It worked for our stay, and lesson learned!
This is a no frills place and could use an upgrade. It is clean and close to the various attractions in Gettysburg. We parked the car and walked to all of our activities. The office staff is very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is not much - coffee and truckstop danish.
The room was outdated. Staff was nice and helpful. Toilet got clogged. It is a good location to walk to things in town and sites. The doors do not shut well or lock well. Good place for dogs. In the morning, you get a package danish or muffin. It is an adequate place to stay.
The Colton Hotel is an older place with very simple rooms,,, nothing fancy: bed, tv, bathroom, small fridge. It’s perfect for a low maintenance traveler ( like me) who just needs a place to sleep and bathe. When I’m in Gettysburg, I’m usually out and about so this was all I needed. The room was simple but, clean. The location is great! The man at the front desk was very nice and accommodating. The first room I was given had a strange smell so he offered a different room to me( I didn’t even have to ask). The second room was just fine. In the morning, the front desk man had a muffin with a candle lit for me because I had told him the day before that it was my birthday. That was a kind gesture. If you want a plain room in a good location, then I recommend this place. Plus, it’s much cheaper than May of the other hotels in GBG.
This was our 3rd year staying here on labor day weekend n like always we had an amazing time!. Now this place isnt fancy by no means but its cheap n clean friendly service theres always a maid around (think she lives there) so we has room 34 n then right above it the large suite that has the deck over looking the busy main street of gettysburg at night we all sit out there n watch the ghost tours come by. They actually come into our parking lot apparently one of the rooms is haunted plus we are right beside the cemetery so that makes it creepy. The pool is always a hit for the kids (and me lol) and our rooms had new carpet n new mattresses which was the most comfortable bed I've slept in in a long time. Only problem we had was no microwaves n the fridge was so small it only could fit a gallon of milk n a brick of cheese so with 4 people in 1 room and 8 upstairs in the suite which 3 were kids it kinda sucked to not have enough room in such a tiny fridge n late at night i wanted to warm up my pizza but couldn't no microwave n the office locks up at 11pm there is a microwave in office. But i understand why they dont have them because people steal them. No coffe makers either but office has coffee in the am. No breakfast. So NO microwaves No coffee pots and tiny fridges BUT it wasnt that big of a deal we had a huge cooler with us. We had a great time n hope to be back next year! And if u stay here n like to drink the bar next door is awesome probably the coolest bar I've ever been in . its called the reliance mine. Thanks for a wonderful stay we will miss gettysburg till next year hopefully
