Everything about this property is perfect. The historic home is a short drive from the historic downtown and conveniently located near the battlefield park visitor center. But its serene, country setting makes it feel miles away from the bustle of tourists. We loved the charming, period décor and found our room comfortable and very clean. The proprietors are very knowledgeable... More

This was our 1st experience at a bed and breakfast and it couldn't have been more perfect. Eileen, Dennis and Jason were extremely gracious and knowledgeable. Our stay in the Walnut Cottage was so peaceful. The breakfasts each morning were so delicious as were the cookies left in our room each day. The exterior landscaping was just lovely and we... More

We are glad you enjoyed the Walnut Cottage. That private porch is an area Jezebel likes to check out in hopes someone has a lap to sit in. We hope you come again soon. More

Ah, where to begin with the Lightner Farmhouse B & B? Shall I start with the fact that the most wounded soldier who survived the Civil War, John Chase, was treated at the field hospital at the farmhouse? Would you like to hear about how old farmer Lightner, who weighed in at over 300 pounds, talked Confederate soldiers out of... More

I am awed by your review and the details you make mention of. The history is quite unique and we are so happy to share it and to have guests like you who care about it. We hope you come back again soon!! And for folks like you, we say "Please send your friends!" More

We traveled with 3 other couples and from the moment we entered the house were made to feel welcome and treated as if we were old friends. The Hoover's gave us a tour of the house, offering us access to all areas of the home including a beautiful porch with rockers which we took full advantage of. Eileen had fresh... More

These folks were the easiest and most pleasant guests and we enjoyed them for the three days of their stay. We are so glad the group had a good time and look forward to seeing all of them again. Maybe next year? More

When we first turned the corner and saw the beautiful exterior to the Lightner Farmhouse, I immediately fell in love. As we toured the house and learned the history behind it, the bed and breakfast became even more intriguing. Eileen, Dennis, and Jason took great care in making sure all our needs were met--from the delicious breakfasts to the suggestions... More

As a frequent visitor to Gettyburg, I have wanted to stay here for a long time but they were always booked solid! I finally had a mid-week trip so they could accommodate our dates. It was. Well worth the wait! Friendly people, great building, and fantastic food!

Wonderful alternative to the chain hotels in Gettysburg! The farmhouse dates back to one year before the battle of Gettysburg and was used as a hospital. Lots of history here. The setting is beautiful and the breakfast was delicious!

We've been going here for several years and it has been consistently wonderful. Dennis, Eileen and Jason are wonderful hosts. The breakfast menus are awesome. We won't even consider staying anywhere else on our yearly visits to Gettysburg. Would highly recommend.

My husband and I had an enjoyable weekend at The Lightner Farmhouse, which was used as a field hospital at the time of the battle. Dennis welcomed us as soon as we pulled into the driveway. Jason took us on an informative tour of the house. He told us about the Lightner Family and the use of the house as... More

My wife and I take frequent road trips with little planning. We like to find out of the way places and we like to stay in B and Bs. Most of our experiences are great but occasionally we run across a property that is beyond great. The Lightner Farmhouse was one of these beyond great experiences. The property is fascinating... Thanks for acknowledging our passion for history. It is such a privilege to own a house that served as a Civil War hospital and we do our best to communicate that to our guests. We also enjoy food and want to please our guests with the home cooked breakfasts. Again, thanks for the kind words More
