I usually do not write reviews, but this needs to be noted. I have stayed at many Microtel Hotels over the years and not have had any complaints and have always appreciated the value of this hotel chain. However, this Microtel was absolutely filthy, moldy smelling, with wet carpet, and a clunky HVAC unit that sounded like someone banging on a pan all night long. There was also supposed to be hotel shuttle service to the airport, which I was told there was when I called a few months back. The guy working the desk told me that there was no shuttle service since Covid rules went into effect. I just went to the Hampton Inn across the street and hopped their shuttle to the airport. DO NOT waste your time or your money at this Microtel, as it is pure garbage..
We booked here when our flight out of Philly was canceled unexpectedly. When we arrived, we were immediately hit by the smell of pot in the lobby. The manager paid us no attention. Then we saw a handwritten note lying on the check-in desk that said “HOTEL WILL LOSE POWER IF THERE ARE STORMS, WILL LOSE INTERNET/AIR CONDITIONING, STRICTLY NO REFUNDS.” When we asked the manager about this, he blustered about how he has no control over power outages — he sounded like he had never interacted with humans before in his life. We contacted Priceline for a refund and rebooked at the Hampton Inn next door, where we were told they get a lot of business from people who check in at the Microtel and then immediately check out.
I booked this hotel because I've stayed in Wyndham resorts and all are decent, except for this one! The reasons why I booked this hotel is: it is one mile from Philadelphia airport (very convenient), free shuttle to and from the airport, and free continental breakfast. Came to find out, there is no airport shuttle and no continental breakfast, only free 24-hour coffee! On their website, there is an option if you want breakfast or not, and it is $5 extra if you want it. I booked our stay from May 23-26, 2021. The front desk was VERY rude, NOT professional, and NOT very helpful. When I asked about his name, he said his name is "Rick". I was asking question and he will raise his voice, very argumentative and very DISRESPECTFUL. The room is average. Just the whole experience was NOT pleasant and would NOT stay here again.…
The room was dirty. Yes, there was hair and dirt on the floor, but the sheets and bedding were also dirty, almost as if the bedding wasn’t changed before we stayed after the last guests. The man at the front desk was EXTREMELY rude. We booked this hotel because it was advertised that there is an airport shuttle. We get there to find out there isn’t one, and hasn’t had one in quite some time. When I asked the man behind the desk about it, he got extremely irritated and proceeded to tell me the “locals” don’t want to work so they can’t keep staff on for the shuttle. When we were preparing to get cleaned up for the night, we noticed there were no wash cloths. When I asked for some at the desk, he would only give me 2, because housekeeping called in sick, again saying no one wants to work. 2 washcloths, for a family of 4. We will absolutely never be staying here again, and would advise against it for anyone else. Spend the extra money and stay somewhere else!…
The check in process was made difficult by the staff. The lobby smelled like marijuana and the TV in my room did not work. They need to hire friendly staff who want to work and a maintenance/housekeeping crew to maintain the place.
