The hotel is centrally located in the heart of downtown allowing most tourist spots to be reached by foot. Theater row is 3 minutes west, Philadelphia's iconic City Hall 5 minutes north, The must-see Freemason Temple is just north of City Hall, and the hotel is in the middle of Philadelphia 3 shopping main streets: Walnut street, Chestnut and Market streets - with their restaurants, bars, shops and service stores. Bohemian South street is 15 minutes south and trendy Rittenhouse Square district 10 minutes westward. Hotel has its own indoor parking and 7th floor pool and fitness center. No on site restaurant but free breakfast buffet is wide ranging and includes a machine that makes you two perfect pancakes at the push of a button -- in one minute! Only the famous Eastern State Penitentiary and Independence Mall require vehicle travel, but seniors - even if from out-of-town- travel for free on buses.

We stayed here for one night. This was a great location for sightseeing. We parked in the lot next door-no problem. We were able to walk to all sites. We arrived early and they held our luggage for us. The staff was all very friendly and helpful. Our room was nice and clean. The breakfast was good and efficiently run. I would stay here again. The only criticism is that the lobby smelled bad-mildew maybe?-and the lobby bathroom needed more upkeep. Lacking soap, a bit dirty. Overall, though, nice place.

I had not stayed at a HI Express in years and I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised. The property seemed older and the lobby and breakfast area were cramped and dark. My room was comfortable and met my needs. What I liked most was the location. One could walk to the major sites and there were lot's of restaurants in the vicinity. Service was friendly.

We stayed for 2 nights with our 2 teenage daughters for a camp performance weekend. Overall, it was a good experience and I recommend the hotel, unless you're more interested in a more luxury experience with a bar and fancy restaurant. If that's the case, stay elsewhere. Pros Nice sized rooms with queen bed option - Most downtown hotels have much smaller rooms, and if you want 2 beds, you're usually stuck with double beds. This hotel has queen beds. Free Breakfast - Typical free hotel breakfast buffet. There's an automatic pancake maker. Most downtown hotels does not offer free breakfast like this. Major plus. Nice outdoor pool - Only worthwhile in the summer, but the pool was nice. Location....location...location - Center City Philadelphia is not created equal. We've stayed at hotels near the convention center before and that area is more rundown with more homeless people around. 13th and Walnut is close to a lively section of Broad Street. The restaurants are more upscale and the area is nicer than the convention center area. It's also just 1 block from the Broad Street Subway, which offers and easy and cheap ride down to the Sports Complex. We went to the Phillies game Friday night which went 15 innings and didn't end until 12:45AM. Even at that time, we felt safe in the subway and walking to our hotel at close to 1AM. Smaller, more friendly hotel - The bellhops are extremely nice and it was easy dropping off our bags to be held. Last year, we stayed at the Marriott at the Convention Center, and we waited 20 minutes to drop off our bags. Smaller is friendlier. Now for the cons... The only issue is that the rooms are a little bit outdated, and could use an upgrade. The showerhead was really low in the shower. If you can deal with that, then I recommend staying here.

Stayed overnight for Phillies game. Perfect location! Walking distance to shopping and restaurants. Straight down Broad St to the sporting venues. Rooms were clean; beds very comfortable; bath/shower and toilet area a little small but i liked that the sink was separate for others to use; good selection for the complimentary breakfast which is served until 10:30! The ladies did a great job restocking the food items and keeping the food warm. Overall the staff was very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back. Only downside was the parking, $30/day (which the hotel does not own and has no control over). Hoping they can try and work with the parking garage company to alleviate the confusion with that!
