This hotel is a story in contradiction. It is honestly exceptional in so many ways. You simply cannot better it's location or grandeur. It is beautifully restored and remodeled to the height of enjoyment. The decor is truly fabulous, it lives up to kimpton standards. But it's frustrating in its stingyness. One of the most dumbfounding aspects is the lack of coffee. Coffee is only available in the lobby during certain hours. This seems to be a major fauxpaux. If it's for sustainability then at least offer it on every floor for heavens sake. Who wants to get fully dressed before grabbing their first cup in the morning? One of the more appealing aspects of this hotel is the rooftop bar. Don't count on that when you visit. We were told it would be unavailable for the following 2 months! I have no problem with using it for special events but then please do not list it as an amenity. If you wish to do so then please choose some hours (any!) where your paying guests can enjoy some drinks and the view as well. Lastly the valet situation is a nightmare. We waited 45 minutes for them to retrieve our car and were late for a reservation. Obviously when you make people check out in the mornings then everyone is gonna need their car at the same time ;) hire a new service. Overall though I would stay there again in a minute. I would just remember to pack my own coffee pot and enjoy a cup while waiting for someone to finally retrieve my car;)…
My husband and I arrived in late morning on a sweltering-hot day in early June, exhausted after both a train and subway ride. It was such a relief to have Roshid, the concierge, greet us as if we were already long-lost friends. He must have seen our exhaustion, because he told us not to worry, our room was already available for to us to check in. We had booked a room with a view of Independence Hall (Room 709), which had a fantastic view of both Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell Center on Independence Mall. Roshid told us that right now there is no daily maid service because of COVID precautions, but not to hesitate to ask him if we needed anything, like extra towels, etc. The bathroom was spotless, including the grout in the tub/shower. The bedding was also spotless, and the bed was very comfortable. The hotel was also easy walking distance to the Philly Phlash bus loop, and also Market-Frankford line subway, which we took after arriving at the Amtrak 30th Street Station. The only negatives were that there was no coffeemaker in the room, and coffee service didn't begin until 7 a.m., which seemed late to us for a business hotel. The restaurant was closed during our stay, but there is a Wawa convenience store nearby, and also the Bourse Food Hall right next to the hotel. Also, we were not aware when we checked in that the hotel assesses an additional fee/night for incidentals, although the fees were reversed quickly after we checked out. We would happily use this hotel again on our next trip to Philadelphia.…
I felt like the hotel was nickel and diming us. There is no free water available for guests and they charge eight dollars per bottle in the room. Ice is only available on a couple of floors. For the price, my room was small and the bathroom was tiny. Also, the half shower door that apparently is standard results in a lot of water being on the floor. There were few towels and only one tiny hook to hang towels. Compared to other Kimpton hotels we have stayed at as well as a Hampton Inn we stayed at the following night, this hotel was disappointing.
I brought my daughter here for the weekend to celebrate her graduation. It has been amazing!!! The Monaco thinks of everything. Our room is SO beautiful and there is so much history all around us. Our view is amazing too! They gave us excellent suggestions of what to do and where to go. We will back, what a treat!
I wanted to set up a surprise amenity for a guest and Rashid made the entire process so easy and smooth! I called after hours and left a message for him. He called me back the next morning and helped me immediately! 10/10!!
