Unfortunately the Hotel Monaco has gone from stylish, chic and classy to a shabby and run down establishment. We have been going here since the hotel opened for weekend getaways in the city. Sadly, we need to break up with Hotel Monaco and find a new hotel. We paid well over $600 per night for a room that was looking very dirty, sad and in need of serious remodeling. The issues: filthy bathroom lights, cracked bathroom mirror, rusty bathroom accessories, moldy grout, peeling wallpaper, filthy rugs, worn furniture, scuffed walls. There was absolutely nothing luxury about this experience. The common areas of the hotel are in even worse disrepair. Filthy rugs throughout hallways, peeling wallpaper all over. Nowhere to sit for the free happy hour, so we skipped it. Breakfast was included with our room. However, this was a rip off…. There were 3 of us and upon check in the very unfriendly receptionist told us the breakfast voucher was only good for 2. $70 breakfast bill for 3 people and only $40 was covered!!! What??? The service in the restaurant was beyond horrible. Very slow and our server clearly did not want to be there. The staff in reception were similarly disinterested in serving us. I’m not sure what happened to this formerly wonderful hotel. The room prices were also increased this weekend (maybe due to weddings?). Typically I’ve paid in the $350 range for a room with a view. This room was over $650 - nice view but one of the smaller rooms we’ve had here. Ridiculous price for a room in such a shambles. For $150 more I could have stayed at The Rittenhouse and had a true 4-5 star experience. Stay away!!!!

The entire hotel is beautiful. From the outside, the reception/check-in area, and the guests' rooms. We had the pleasure of working with Chauncey. Chauncey was professional, engaging, and funny! The bed was extremely comfortable and the pillows were fluffy.

This hotel is amazing! The rooms are so cool, beautiful and comfortable—nothing has been overlooked to heighten your experience! The decor is creatively classy—it just works on every level. The Red Oak bar has an extensive menu and cocktail offerings—the pork belly and hamburgers were phenomenal. The staff (most notably Chancey, James Carter and Daniel) were supremely helpful—and we had a catered meeting and I did not get the name of the gentleman who supplied our room, but he was engaging and amazing as well! A wonderful experience and I can’t wait to come back.

Overcharged us twice. No tea/coffee facilities in room. Took an hour to remedy, and ended up with some cheap paper cups… Lighting in bathroom insufficient to shave by. The highlight is some dude aggressively trying to replace $10 bottles of water which we hadn’t touched.

Stayed in a terrific corner room with views of independence hall and liberty bell park. Fantastic location for a visit to independence hall area, within walking distance to many sights. Room was bright, clean, and well sized and loved the tub. Staff was pleasant. Enjoyed the Kimpton cocktail hours.

Beautiful during the day and you can’t beat the location, right in the center of everything. Our room was ready early and the room was very clean and well appointed. Very friendly staff and went above and beyond for our pup. I will say the night time is a different story. There is a rooftop club at the hotel that brings a very rough crowd. I was in the elevator going to my room with two girls who were going to the club and were talking about how high they were on mushrooms. Didn’t feel safe in the hotel at night. In addition, we stayed on the 9th floor and could hear the music from the club while we were trying to sleep. If you have children I would be careful.

Service at this hotel is amateurish at best. Approached the front desk to check in and the front desk clerk couldn’t even be bothered to look up and acknowledge my presence, let alone greet me and welcome me. After a few minutes of waiting patiently, the concierge behind me asked if he could help me so I checked in with him. On the second day, we left the room around 10:00-10:30. I passed the housekeeper in the hallway and she asked if we needed the room serviced today. I told her we did. We returned around 4:30 and the room had not been serviced. I tried phoned housekeeping and the front desk and got no answer. I went down to the front desk and told the clerk that the room had not been service. She looked surprised and phoned housekeeping and someone arrived about 30 minutes later to serviced the room. The next day we left about the same time and again returned around 4:30…guess what…no housekeeping service. I went straight to the four desk and asked the clerk if the rooms were serviced every day and he looked at me quizzingly and said “of course”. I told him we had been out all day and no one serviced the room. I then told him we had the same occur the previous day. I said “ I don’t know where the disconnect is, but there is one”. Someone arrived about 30 minutes later and serviced the room. The doormen, don’t make me laugh. In the span of four days I passed through the four doors roughly 20-25 times. Guess how many times the “doormen” held a door open for any of us…twice. But, they have plenty of time to stand around at the valet stand texting on their phones. On more than on occasion, I observed one of them sitting outside, practically lounging ina chair testing away while guests came and went. Management at this establishment is sorely lacking. Little or no supervision of staff and standards are not just low, but non-existent. I’ve had better service at a frat party.

We always enjoy staying at a Kimpton hotel because the people at the front desk are so kind and helpful- our favorite is this Kimpton in Philadelphia. The rooms are always clean. Whenever we bring our dog, they welcome her with open arms and a dog bowl and bed. It is in a good location to see the historic area of Philadelphia.
