The Inn at Penn, a Hilton Hotel, is celebrated for its prime location near universities and downtown Philadelphia, with many guests commending its clean, comfortable rooms and eco-friendly environment. While the upscale amenities and service, especially concierge and valet, receive high marks for their professionalism, some visitors mention the decor feels a bit dated and maintenance could be improved. Although the hotel's cleanliness and tranquil atmosphere are highlights, the cost of valet parking and room rates are often noted as steep by reviewers.

We stayed for just one night to visit colleges in the Philadelphia area. It was the right place for us. Conveniently located by University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University, everything was walkable and in a neighborhood where we felt reasonably safe. The room was pretty comfortable for the most part (though the beds could have been a little more firm, and the paint job in the bathroom was a little sloppy), and with the hotel being in a side street it was quiet. We enjoyed breakfast which had both homemade dish’s and buffet items. Fresh fruit assortment and steel cut oats. If we need to return to this area of Philly, I would definitely stay here again. Just be aware: all hotels in the city offer overnight parking at an average extra cost of anywhere between $25 and $55. This hotel does not have its own parking lot so the options are either to valet for $58 or park yourself about a block away for $25.

We needed a single Sat nite stay and were able to book the last min at the Inn at Penn. It was pricey, but I had Hilton points, so used those. Everyone is extremely helpful and polite. The hotel is clean and welcoming. The Univ of Penn bookstore is next-door, and there is a Starbucks inside.

I would stay again BUT in the room I had, the sliding door to the bathroom was extremely heavy, and I was unable to move it. To their credit, they did come and try and fix it, and when unable to, they did offer us another room, which was a handicapped room and not as nice. So, we left the door open since it was only one nite and stayed in this room.

That door clearly has had a problem for a long time, and it is kind of crazy that there is a sliding door to the bathroom but a swing door to the closet. They need to swap that. Otherwise, it was very quiet. The AC worked great, and the bed was comfy.

We just checked out after a two night stay and I wanted to say this while it’s fresh on my mind: The Inn at Penn simply has the nicest employees.

The front desk personnel, the valets, and housekeeping all seem to take actual pride in their hotel. Every time we walked through the lobby or past the valets (whether we were coming or going), the employees greeted us warmly and genuinely offered their assistance in any form.

The hotel building was nice, very pretty lobby and hallways, neatly decorated, and immaculately clean. The room itself was fine, nothing particularly special about it, but the lovely front desk checked in by text a few times to see if we needed anything (and were very responsive when we did).

We would be happy to stay here again.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel because he was scheduled for surgery and this facility was close to the hospital. We arrived on Sunday evening and after getting ourselves settled, he decided to take a shower. Imagine our surprise when there was only cold water coming out of the shower as well as the sink! He let it run for a few minutes but it only got colder. I called the front desk to report the issue and was told that there was some sort of outage with the water company and they were working to get it fixed. Ok I can understand that sometimes things happen beyond one’s control, but at $250 a night (hospital rate by the way) I would have thought the hotel would have at least taken a few dollars off the price. I was wrong. I also realize that they are in business to make money, but some things are just plain highway robbery in my opinion. For example there is no self-park option at the hotel itself (yes there are garages nearby but again you are still paying extra for that) and despite the fact that you are already paying quite a bit for your room, they charge an extra $45 a night to valet park your car. If you order room service be prepared to pay a King’s ransom for a meager portion of food at best. I ordered a fruit cup and bowl of oatmeal and it cost $34 by the time all the convenience and service fees were tacked on. The vending machine on our floor had a note on the glass that said beverages would be dispensed at room temperature. I don’t know if this was the case for other floors because I didn’t check - and I thought this to be a minor inconvenience since we were able to get ice and we also had a refrigerator in the room. However, when we attempted to use the glasses provided for our drinks, we noticed they were smudged with lint on the inside so that wasn’t exactly something that l felt comfortable about regarding the care of the rest of the room which they claim is “sanitized”. Perhaps I am asking too much and if it were any other hotel besides the Hilton I might have been more understanding. All I can say is that we were already in a stressful situation with a surgery and this experience did not make things any easier. They should be ashamed of themselves.

We're sorry for the issues you experienced during your recent medical stay. We are one of many city hotels that only offer a valet parking option, and for that, we rely on a third party. We're happy to suggest nearby self-parking options, and as you mentioned those too would come at a cost. Thank you for your feedback and we hope you’ll give us another opportunity soon to make your stay the best it can be.

The good:
- Good clean spacious room
- Great location - located just across UPenn and Wharton School, minutes away from the key sights of the University City, and ~10-15 minutes' walk to Philadelphia downtown city
- Double-glazed window that kept out most of the road noise even when facing the main road of Walnut St
- Helpful front desk (Valentine has one of the best service)

The considerations:
- Water-pressure for the shower may not be consistent (especially during heavy occupancy and usage)
- Hilton Diamond members don't get much perk (no club lounge, the $15 dining credit can only be used for breakfast and not for meals at the other restaurants within the hotel which is operated by 3rd party, and no late check-out allowed beyond 12pm)

Dear Guest, Thank you for allowing The Inn at Penn to host your recent stay. We're happy to hear you had an enjoyable visit and that you appreciated our clean and spacious accommodations and our convenient location, as well as the excellent service Valentine provided. However, we're sorry we fell short of meeting all of your expectations, and we also apologize for any issues you encountered with the shower pressure. As a valued Diamond Hilton Honors Member, your feedback is essential and allows us to continually review guest satisfaction and address areas where we could be doing even better. The daily food & beverage credit offered to Gold and Diamond Members can also be used for room service and will apply for purchases made in our Living Room Lounge when it resumes service later this year. We're grateful for your positive rating, and we hope to have the pleasure of your company the next time you're in the area. Sincerely, Jim Salvo, General Manager

We stayed here in February 2021. It wasn't really a great time to stay in a hotel and we really understood that. We were there to visit our son. Hilton sends you a bunch of emails touting how they've partnered with Lysol to be superclean "HILTON Cleanstay" it's called. They tell you all about the protocols before you get there. We got to the hotel and the woman checking us in was very nice and helpful, she let us know that the restaurant was closed due to covid so no Diamond Hilton Honors free breakfast but we could have 2 vouchers for $15 to spend on room service (thats like 2 cups of coffee and 1 muffin at this place). Anyway, the only upgrade they had was for the Pure Wellness room which is great because my son and I have allergies. We get there and the door has one of those stickers on it that says it's been sanitized that you have to break in order to get in. Well, the room is really gross, dusty and sticky. I have wipes with me so I start cleaning. I understand that it's just really hard these days and I don't mind just making sure stuff is clean myself. My husband grabbed the trash can and there was a rotten apple next to it. The apple wasn't really "hiding" it was pretty much just next to the can.It was clear that no cleaned this room. It was a Pure Wellness but it was a pure filth room. We called down to housekeeping. They said they would get it but no one ever came. We called the front desk, waited. Eventually my husband put the apple in the can and left it outside. I called the front desk and the nice lady came up and gave me some more wipes and some spray and paper towels and took the can away. After we left the hotel sent me a survey, I filled it out and wrote a polite letter to Hilton to let them know what happened. The hotel sent me a canned letter in response and I never heard from them again.

Thank you for taking your time to leave thoughts on your stay from back in February. As you can imagine, the pandemic has normalized constant change and many things you have cited have changed since the beginning of the year. Our restaurant partner, Louie Louie, has reopened as has our breakfast restaurant, The University Club. Hilton's CleanStay program has evolved, with certain protocols like the door seal being removed. There is no excuse for the condition that you’ve described in the room that you occupied, and we hope that you’ll accept our apology. Since the beginning of the year, we have had dozens of team members return to work, bringing us much closer to our pre-COVID staffing levels. We hope to be able to provide you with an experience in the future that is better aligned with the clean, comfortable accommodations that we’re known for in University City.

Upon entering room, everything covered in dust, I could write my name in the dust. Bathroom was dirty and cramped with very low quality towels and shower handle about to break off. No bottle water in room. TV did not work, repair man came and fixed it and then it broke again. On 2nd day, “cleaning” staff did not touch the dust and left our room with 0 towels. Lampshades were disgusting and covered in stains. Complete indifference by hotel staff about any and all issues. Enclosing pictures. Also, room was $700/night due to Penn family weekend, a complete rip-off. One would think the university would demand a nicer experience since the hotel has their name on it

This is a nice hotel. the concierge are friendly, efficient, respectful. The valet parking is convenient and the valet parkers are professional. We ordered room service for breakfast and the food was hot and delicious. We had a king room and it was spacious. The personnel greeted us in the morning before we could even speak ourselves. I appreciate every person that we encountered. We will stay here again.

Overall, the hotel was okay. My biggest complain is that it wasn't as clean as it should have been, which negatively colored my experience. The bathroom was not clean, there was hair all over the place (in and on the sink, on the floor counter, in the shower) and in/on the towels. I requested a new set of towels and they sent those up- but they had long strands of hair mixed in too. It was disappointing, and just felt uncomfortable, because I wondered about what else may not have been cleaned... I ended up cleaning the sink/counter/shower myself so that I would feel comfortable using it (I got in kinda late and by the time I was showering for bed it was quite late, and I didn't want to call housekeeping that late).

Very expensive, which is fine if the service matches. We arrived on a graduation weekend and were told our rooms could not be ready until 4pm. Valet service (also very expensive) was understaffed and extremely slow. Morning coffee in the lounge was not available until at least 7am and did not have decaf available. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and the location was convenient, but we don’t feel the entire experience was worth the cost.

However, we apologize for the delays with valet and the service issues you experienced during your stay. When we are fully booked the night before, it can be challenging to honor early check-in requests outside of our stated check-in time of 4:00 pm.
