This hotel was great! I found myself in a bind after another hotel nearby canceled my reservation with no notice, and the employees at the Study were wonderful. They helped me book a room and check in within minutes, and were lovely to deal with and very professional. Once checked in, I was able to appreciate how gorgeous the hotel is, from the lobby to the guest rooms, everything gives a warm welcoming atmosphere to help you feel at home in your stay. The beds were comfortable, rooms were clean, and despite being on a low floor on a busy street/near construction, I could not even hear any of the city noise in my room without opening the window. It's also in a very convenient location at the heart of Ucity, right in between Drexel and Penn campuses, and a short walk from 30th st station. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area!

Clean, modern, and easy to get to. Spent one night here before boarding Amtrak at 30th Street (an easy walk right up Market St.) The room was very clean and well laid out with a large shower (no tub), and key card elevator security. Front desk staff was pleasant and helpful, and even though the on-premises restaurant was closed they provided a list of recommendations relatively nearby.
The room could benefit from a fridge and maybe a microwave for longer stays, and the HVAC unit was kinda noisy in our room, but otherwise a good value in a better area of town.

Had booked a room at the Study for my daughter before her move-in at the dorm. The Staff at the Study did everything to make her stay comfortable. Special mention to The General Manager Mr. Sebastein who was in touch with me for nearly two months answering all the queries of a concerned mother. Insha was given in an early check-in at 830 am after a long flight, all her amazon orders delivered at the hotel were safely kept aside for her. Its the best hotel for kids. Thank you Mr. Sebastein.

The room was attractive in a minimalist way. It really wasn't really ready: there were dried flower petals on the floor, and a trundle bed, with the furniture misplaced. We were offered a different room though. The phone by the bed didn't work. One of the lights by the bed didn't work. There were no cups/mugs in the rooms. There were no charging units on the desk. There was no refrigerator. No coffee maker. There was very little place to put toiletries in the bathroom, and no hook to hang a toiletry bag. The closet was only a few inches deep, allowing only for a few things things to hang, and only one sided (one side was an ironing board). The beds were comfortable. I thought the pillows were fine, but my husband thought they were too soft. Temperature control was good. The chairs were not comfortable, having no back support. Shampoo/conditioner/body wash was provided and were nice products, that didn't have too strong a fragrance. I liked that the door to the bathroom was a real swinging door rather than a sliding door that many hotels have. There wasn't good ventilation in the bathroom. There is a night-light that can be turned on in the bathroom (too bright for our use, but a nice touch). There was a window that could be opened to allow outside air into the room. It took a long time to get our car pulled up in valet parking, about 20 minutes, so plan for this if you have an appointment or reservation to get to. We were almost late for our dinner reservations. The breakfast at the restaurant was excellent. Breakfast was not included in the stay, but there was free morning coffee/tea in the lobby area. Interesting books and displays in the lobby. The avocado toast was pretty tiny for $18 (a single slice of bread about 4" x 4", a poached egg and a thin smear of avocado), but other orders were more what I expected.

Positives: Room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. Bathroom was modern. Convenient to medical facilities in University City.

Negatives:

Pet Fee: The property's pet policy is not readily accessible on their website. Additionally, the pet fee is not listed on third party booking sites. I used Booking.com only said "charges may apply." I was making a booking last minute because my dog was being seen for an oncology appointment at UPenn Vet Hospital and I figured the pet fee couldn't be bad whatever it was. When I called the hotel after making the booking to confirm they got my note I would be brining my dog, I was told the pet fee was $75 non-refundable, even for just a one night stay. That is at the tippy top end in pet fees in my six year experience traveling with a dog.

Quality vs Price: The room itself was a bit awkward, as the window treatments for the large windows were behind a desk and chair, which I had to squeeze between in order to lower and raise. There was also no fridge in the room, although the front desk did arrange for one to be brought up. What was brought was an old dinged up chef master fridge that looked like it had been rescued from a college dorm room at the end of the year. Valet parking was the only parking option offered by the hotel and by the time I paid that (I was traveling alone with a pet that had just undergone anesthesia for a medical procedure and thus couldn't take advantage of local public parking since I couldn't leave my pet along in the room) and the pet fee, my $161 for one night became $308 a night. I could have stayed at a much nicer hotel for the same price and gotten better service over all. Service was perfunctory. For example, when I arrived the room was hot. No one had turned on the room HVAC prior to arrival (it was not controlled via key card). Additionally, I was placed in a room right next to the service room and heard the door slamming closed several times. The hotel was not very full, so not sure why a guest would be placed in that particular room unless absolutely necessary. I will definitely choose another hotel next time.

Modern hotel. Its valet parking is expensive if you choose to use it. There is a nearby parking garage less than a five minute walk from the hotel that charges less than half what the hotel charges to park. The room was fine and had a Scandinavian feel to it, however, the recycle bin in the room hadn’t been emptied from the previous guests and had used masks in it. In addition, the tops of the lamps, brochure shelves, and headboard were dusty. Whatever the staff used to dust may spread the dust around, but doesn’t pick it up all that well. The A/C unit is very load when it comes on, and surprisingly, road noise, even on the 6th floor was fairly substantial. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows could have had more filling. Unlike some hotels, the lobby is large and is good for groups of people who want to get together and chat. Free coffee and tea is available in the lobby between 6-10am. Check in was easy and the staff were friendly.

It was my first time travelling to the US and I was travelling solo for a conference. The hotel lobby is very inviting, comfortable and clean. I found all of the staff to be genuinely friendly and helpful. I felt very safe at this hotel and in the neighbourhood. The welcome information pack which included candy, chocolate and water was a lovely touch. I didn't use the bar or the restaurant, but food was served at a meet and greet event the evening before my conference and all day for the conference, which also took place at the Study hotel. The food was absolutely beautiful. Cheesesteaks were included for the meet and greet event and my goodness they were delicious!
My room was very specious, the bed was so, so comfortable and the air conditioning was so good. Lots of complimentary bottled water. The noise elimation at the hotel (maybe triple glazed windows) was fantastic. I slept so well as I literelly couldn't hear any of the city noise whatsoever. The en suite was very spacious also, fluffy towels and face cloths. The shower was fantastic and included was beautiful, luxurious comlpimentary shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. There was also a complimentary room safe and a hair dryer. The fact that there is no fridge in the room was very disappointing. I really think that Management should review this as many people have medications that need to be stored in a fridge and also many peolpe have special dietry needs and need to bring some food items with them that would need to be also stored in a fridge. There is a grocery store only 2 minutes away. The Fashion District Mall is only a short bus ride away and I highly reccomend the store Burlington there for quality at a good price. I did a City Tour on a hop on hop off bus which started at the visitor centre beside Liberty Bell and I highly reccomend it. Entrance to Liberty Bell is free. Philadeliphia is a beautiful city with lovely people. I will return and stay again at the Study at University City Hotel.

The lobby level of the hotel is beautiful, and every staff member we interacted with was pleasant, helpful, and thoughtful. When we had questions via email, they were also quick to respond. Good West Philly location, too.

Our king studio room had minimalist decor with clean lines and nice furniture; it appears light, airy, and attractive. But ... it's not that livable. Bathroom is impractical--almost nowhere to hang towels or put toiletries. Ours had a completely unnecessary frosted glass window facing the bed area, and if someone turned on the bathroom light, it shone right through the window onto someone sleeping. Bathroom door also doesn't fully open and partially blocks the toilet. Closet is wide and shallow, with few hangers and too much difficult-to-use space. Our room had a massive desk that blocked access to the window shade controls (and the shades aren't fully light blocking). Desk chair tilted backwards awkwardly. Bed was comfortable but had heavy, warm bedding on it suitable for winter, not for August. There's lots of potential here but rooms need to be designed and laid out for real people to use, not just to look good in photographs. Perhaps the larger rooms are better.

The place was new and very clean. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. We were happy that there was parking. The beds and bedding were very nice and very comfortable. The view was also great. There are only a couple of things I would have liked. The bathroom was clean and nice. However I would have installed hand rails in shower as well as more hooks for towels. I can never understand why when hotels are built they have pedestal sinks with no place to lay your make up case or
shaving paraphernalia or accessories. There was room for a counter of some sort to place your personal bathroom items on when hotel was built. I had to put a few things under the sink and others in my suitcase and run back and forth.

Pros: Convenient to Penn. Clean, mostly-modern rooms. Speedy valet service. Most service requests (towels, refrigerator) honored promptly.

Cons: At checkin, staff were more interested in talking with each other (4 people behind the counter) than attending to guests checking in. As a single woman, I do not like it when staff announce my room number when handing me the key—it’s written on the folder and I can find my way. It’s a matter of safety. That said, the clerk immediately changed my room and handed me a key without saying the number aloud the second time. Valet parking was pricey. No streaming services available for the televisions (at least get fire sticks that guests can use!) The hotel did not email my bill after checkout as requested and promised; I had to call to request it to file my expense report.

Notable: Dewit, the valet, was the only person who helped me when I came in from having taken a nasty fall downtown. I was bleeding and needed an ice pack. I stood at the desk for nearly 10 minutes with no one there (around 8PM on 6/24) until he came from the valet stand to assist me. The desk clerk eventually came out (the phone was ringing the entire time I stood there) and he was not helpful or sympathetic. Dewit is a gem and should be considered for more customer-facing roles at this hotel.

What are the details for parking? Thanks in advance.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania2 contributions
We have a few options. Street parking is the cheapest but hard to find and a lot of work to manage through the PPA app. We have 2 Universities parking behind us but no overnight parking. Finally, we have valet at $43 a night with in and out privileges throughout your stay.

Breakfast is not included. Our restaurant CO/OP is our onsite restaurant and offer an a la carte breakfast/brunch 7 days a week until 11.

Dear Travelbugyee, We are more than happy to hold your luggage! We actually have dry cleaning services, items are retrieved daily except on Sundays and brought back same day in the evening. If that is not something you want, we can recommend a local Laundromat in which we can schedule the pickup for you and the Laundromat will retrieve and bring items back. The most I have seen a guest spend on the local Laundromat service has been around $25-30 for a decent size bag of wash and fold! We look forward to seeing you soon!
Answer from Taisha C
Dear Terry H + Future Travelers, We unfortunately do not have any shuttle systems at our property. However, we can always schedule a CAB for you and we also recommend that you use Uber/Lyft if comfortable doing so. I have found many guests to find Uber/Lyft extremely convenient for their travels to the nearby hospitals! We hope this helps!
