I have had the pleasure of staying in the Chestnut Hill Hotel for the month of November and into December. All the employees greeted me with hello and have a warm smile. John the manager of the hotel is very hands on and makes sure everything runs smoothly. I had to keep extending my trip and he was very kind and made sure I always was able to extend my stay.. He is active and makes sure everything is running smoothly. The rooms are extremely comfortable. I was here during the Thanksgiving Holiday and was invited to the Thanksgiving dinner. The Front desk employees Michele, Jillian and Deniece will take care of all your needs and are always welcoming and eager to help all the guests. They treat you like a friend. They help any way they can to make your stay pleasurable.for everyone. It's home away from home. The best part is on the weekend when they pop popcorn and tasty treat for the holidays. Calva is the housekeeping supervisor she helps with breakfast and many other things that makes the hotel shine. Monty is here in the morning making sure there is buffet breakfast. He is always refilling the food, There is a waffle maker that everyone liked. Johanna, Letia, Kerline and Charelle always make sure that the rooms and the hallway are clean, providing towels and anything else that is needed. The hotel is sparkling. I am so happy I chose The Chestnut Hill Hotel and recommend it 100%.

My husband and I with two other couples spent New Year’s Eve at the Chestnut Hill Hotel. I must say it’s one of Chestnut Hill’s hidden gems. We stayed in the cottage that is detached from the main hotel. The cottage has five very unique and cozy rooms with fireplaces and one room has a jacuzzi tub. The beds were of the Quality of a five-star hotel and the linen on the bed top was notched. The front desk and staff were outstanding. My contact person was Ms M. Pierce. Michele made sure our check-in was flawless are rooms even had wine glasses with streamers. She also made sure that each couple was pleased with their accommodations. In the morning we had a wonderful Continental breakfast in the Bambay Room beautiful area with antiques and interesting artwork on the wall. Must say one of the best New Year’s Eve ever!!

My sister and I have been teaveling from Va to Pa for over 5 years now on a regular basis to connect with family in the area. This is by far one of the best, most unique boutique hotels I have experienced in the Pa . The decor is warm and welcoming. In the Spring the garden landscape is a photographer's dream. The staff is most welcoming, professional and caring. Managed by John who is kind, approachable and treats every guest as though they are the only "guest", Chestnut Hill Hotel is consistently well manicured and mindfully run. The fragrance upon entering is most fresh and lovely..We loved the fresh new carpet, very large screen televisions and that special touch of a beautiful living flower/lily upin arrival with a handwritten welcome in the room. The beds and pillowas are like sleeping on a cloud! The best rest ever! Michelle and Calva who greets guest often at the front desk are simply THE BEST! Always making certain that every guest is attended to with patience, a listening ear and care. Chestnut Hill Hotel is so much more than a truly terrific get away, to my sister and I it has been a home away from home. We are here again this weekend and continue to appreciate this exceptional team here at Chestnut Hill Hotel and will return for months to come. Definitely a "must experience" hotel if in the area!

The Chestnut Hill Hotel is in the fashionable shopping area on Germantown Ave. We had reservations in the main building; the elevator was out of order and we did not want to climb three flights of stairs with two dogs and crates etc. They moved us to the Post Office Building adjacent (there is also The Carriage House) with only one flight of stairs.
Our room was spacious and bright, looking out over Germantown Ave. As befitting the building (there is a branch PO in the lower level) the decor was a screen print of Ben Franklin stamps and postcards. Big comfortable bed, good sized couch, plenty of room for us, the dogs and the crates. A small kitchenette and a nice sized bathroom and small closet. Plenty of electrical outlets but only one with a built-in USB charger port.
A mirror in the room over the desk or near the door would have been handy, the only mirror was in the bathroom.
In Room coffee was a Nespresso machine and pods. Good coffee, but espresso is pretty small, I'd need to use all six provided pods to make a decent sized mug of coffee (the front desk was generous with additional pods). Nice Occitane soaps in the bathroom, a welcome touch.
Check in was easy and the switch in rooms proved easy as they did not seem full (I think we were the only ones in the PO building). The front desk staff are EXCELLENT, but evening and daytime.
Parking can be problematic. There is a complimentary parking lot behind the hotel, but it is used by both hotel guests and patrons of the FAIRWAY Markets and Restaurants in the area. You may not find a space on a busy night till after the shops close. We made a point of staying away the 2nd evening till close to 10 to facilitate parking. On-Street parking is "available" too, but not easy to find, and Philly's electronic parking system requires a downloaded app.
Breakfast is complimentary (and they have a coffee machine that makes big mugs if you hold in the button long enough). Pastries, yoghurt, fruit and waffles (not real maple syrup). More than enough to get you thru the day till lunch.
The hotel and the are are quite Dog Friendly, which is a huge plus. I think I'd return if rooms were available.

Response from John Pollock, General Manager at Chestnut Hill Hotel
Responded Feb 3, 2023
Dear chasinUstateNew York, Thank you for your recent stay and for sharing your comments. I am pleased to hear you enjoyed our hotel’s location in the middle of everything here in historic Chestnut Hill. I am sorry our elevator was out of service during your visit. Our elevator company was on property several times to trouble shoot the issue, and make operational. I am glad we had the opportunity to upgrade you to one of our rooms in the Post Office Annex building, featuring a good amount of space, a sofa, small kitchenette including 2 burner stove, over the counter microwave, garbage disposal and a small dining area. All of our guest rooms regardless of location have full length mirrors. The large white framed mirror in your room was located by the room’s dining table. All rooms also enjoy a large backlit mirror in the bathroom as well as a lit makeup mirror in the bathroom. As you mentioned, our parking lot, located directly behind the hotel is shared with the Market at the Fareway, and other restaurants on property. There can be a wait for parking during peak times. Chestnut Hill has enforced metered street parking Monday through Saturday 9am until 6pm. Meter parking is available via app or using the onsite sidewalk kiosk. Side streets offer non metered parking. There is no parking enforcement on Sundays. Thank you again for your kind comments, I am happy you found our front desk colleagues to be friendly and accommodating and that you enjoyed our continental breakfast offering. Hopefully your travel plans will allow a future visit in the near future! Wishing you a fantastic 2023!

A historic old hotel in a fabulous location, with no competition, this could be a first rate hotel with some strategic upgrades. As it is, it borders on dumpy.
1. Redecorate the rooms. Nothing fancy. But the design is horrendous. Make it quieter and classier with some basic antique furniture and a tasteful color scheme, lose the plastic chairs and the crazy Philadelphia themed crap.
2. Upgrade the TV and internet systems so they work seamlessly.
3. The free breakfast screams motel6. There are great bakeries all up and down the street. Instead of the bowl of eggs, lobby waffles and little debbie pastries, have a deal with the market behind the hotel for delicious fresh made stuff. Guests will love you for it.
4. Better housekeeping. This should be obvious. Rather than just making ip the beds, the rooms should be vacuumed and cleaned every day.
5. Have a few dedicated parking spots for hotel guests so they do not have to roam around the streets looking for spots on busy nights when the lot is full.
For $220 per night, things have to be a little better. This could be a great hotel with a little better management and vision.

Response from John Pollock, General Manager at Chestnut Hill Hotel
Staff interacts with each other & with guests as if caring for family - patient & thoughtful. Making & changing reservations is best done by phone w/front desk staff, as online reservation system is not always operational. Continental breakfast is nice (starting at 7AM), with bagels & other breads & pastries, hard boiled eggs, fruit cups, yogurt, granola, oatmeal, waffle-maker, & a coffee & espresso machine. Tables in the breakfast room are dressed with china dishes & cloth napkins.

We stayed five nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The services of Jill Calva and Asia in our room as well as the front desk staff day and night, and dining room staffs were very accommodating and pleasant. The room was clean the bed was comfortable and the room spacious and we are able to use the refrigerator and open the windows for fresh air in this older but remodeled building. The historical photos and drawings on the wall where very interesting as well as a very usable exercise room. We'll be back!

We stayed 9 days at the Chestnut Hill Hotel for a special event and could not have been happier with the quality of the hotel, its amenities, service and location. I got some of the best night sleeps I can remember there and the staff provided incredible service to make our stay a delight. We did not have much extra time, so having the awesome brewery, taproom and market on site was the perfect complement to a great home base for our week of activity. The staff graciously granted some personal requests and anticipated others without us even having to ask. All in all a terrific experience in a cool neighborhood.

Me and my husband love this very charming hotel. First of all the staff is marvelous. The are so very nice and accommodating! From Michelle, Jill, Mindy and the rest of the staff I give them 5 stars. There Amazing! The rooms are not that big in size but there old Charm. It’s truly lovely. CLEANEST is high on my list! And they really have it together. The linens on the beds are pressed to perfection & they have a fresh smell. If you looking for something small and charming in the Chestnut Hill area of Philadelphia this is the place. Michelle Allen

We LOVED our stay at the Chestnut Hill Hotel. The room was very quiet and every comfort need was anticipated and provided, including an umbrella in the closet (this was a first for me- just wow!). The bed and pillows were plush as expected and the bathroom was also well-appointed. Fascinating historical photographs of the Chestnut Hill and greater Philadelphia área covered the walls in the hallways. Breakfast was great, and we loved the brewery and market right next door. Calva and Michelle were particular staff who stood out as genuinely friendly and helpful. We felt pampered, and would give our highest recommendation for this hotel!

Hi, I am not 100% sure what you mean by "outside corridor access", but none of our rooms have balconies. Our rooms do have windows that open. You can also request a room in the Post Office or Carriage House Buildings and to access those, you can walk a few steps from the main hotel building to a nearby building. The Carriage House has four rooms and the Post Office has five rooms. Both have rooms on the first floor, which are accessed via one flight of stairs. I hope I have answered your question. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Sincerely,
Lindsey
Thank you for your question. Yes, our hotel is suitable for children. We have a pack n' play or a crib that we can put in your room. Please make sure to request one if you decide to stay with us. All but three of our rooms have bath tubs. If you require a room with a bathtub, please also be sure to request this. Let us know if you have any other questions.
Sincerely,
Lindsey
Thank you for your recent inquiry. The short answer is that half of our rooms have heat and air conditioning year round while the other rooms have only heat or only air conditioning, depending on the time of year. Should you prefer to have both heat and air conditioning year round, kindly mention this when making your reservation and we will do our best to accommodate you.
The long answer is that, due to the historic footprint and age of our hotel, half of our guest rooms are on a two-pipe system providing either heat or air conditioning depending on the time of year. We use our best judgment to switch the rooms to AC in the spring and heat in the fall. We always have at least a few unseasonably warm or cool days. To best ensure the comfort of our guests on these days, we offer heaters or fans to assist with the transition.
I hope this helps to address your question. Thank you again for your inquiry.
Dear CaperPat54,
Thank you for your question. There is not a "tour bus" that picks up from the Chestnut Hill Hotel, but we are within walking distance of the Septa Chestnut Hill East and Chestnut Hill West train lines. In addition, there are local buses that run various places.
Phlash is a tour bus. You can find a copy of the map of their routes/stops online, but I am unable to include a link here.
The Philadelphia Museum of Art stop is closest to the Hotel if you are driving. If you take Septa, you can get off at Suburban Station (close to #18 on the map) or Jefferson Station (near #4 on the map). If you have any additional questions, please call the Hotel at 215-242-5905 or 800-628-9744.
Dear Perrjojo,
Septa train fares vary based on weekday, peak and non peak times or weekend pricing.
Please Google Septa Regional Rail & Rail Transit Fare Guide under Septa . org for specific pricing.
Both Chestnut Hill West and Chestnut East lines may be accessed approximately 3 blocks from the hotel.
There are more places to choose from in the Philadelphia area.
