The hotel is outdated and something you could maybe have found in Austria eons ago. We stopped by just for the night and chose it for its location. Never in my life have I met such a rude receptionist as the guy who was working there. Condescending, rude, patronizing and generally unhelpful. When my husband (whose English, although perfect is not his first language) did not catch something he was saying asked for the guy to elaborate, the guy very rudely looked at him with irritation and repeated exactly what he had just said. My husband then said “I am sorry for asking, but English is not my first language so sometimes I need to clarify somethings” to which the guy replied “yes, and that is why I am repeating myself”. When asked about the car pass through Yosemite he said “you can look it up online, but you should have probably down it months ago”. This was also not true, since there were hundreds of passes still available. The situation became so comical that I had to tell my husband that we check stuff ourselves from our room. Cannot comment on the restaurant as did not have dinner there.

This charming European style lodge is spotless, spacious, well designed, and is located just steps from a lot of fun restaurants, the Mammoth gondola, and a small general store, yet is still nestled within the trees. Aside from the standard amenities, our room is very generous in size, has a firm but comfortable mattress, has convenient shelves and a small fridge, extra spots to hang jackets, and a pretty view of the snow and trees. I am normally a light sleeper but was not disturbed. The property is a tiny bit dated but that adds to its charm and the housekeeping staff keeps everything looking SPOTLESS. I also appreciated that it feels just like when we stayed in Switzerland. This is a great value for your money. 5 star for me! Will definitely stay again!

The first person we encountered at the front desk was Martha, and she was wonderful. Very helpful, giving us information for the area, menus, and telling us to let the front desk know if we needed anything. The room was about what we expected having seen photos online. It has a lot of the original 1973 aspects to it. We stayed in a room with a king bed and a fireplace. We were lucky enough to have an end room on the second floor, so we had no problems with noise. Our bed wasn't terrible, though it was quite firm. The carpet on the floor threw us at first, since we don't see that as much nowadays, but then we remembered that the carpet is probably necessary for winter snow. The bathroom was average, again not terrible, but minimal in its amenities. The pool and hot tub were well kept, and the towels at the pool were helpful. We understand the hotel is dated, but even a dated hotel that is charging $169 per night could perhaps up the quality of the amenities. The towels were the thin, basic towels. The two bottles of water when we arrived were nice, but no more are given unless you pay, no matter how many nights you are staying. Glass cups would have been nice. Just two paper cups for coffee and two small plastic cups were given. Two tiny bars of soap were given for showering and hand washing, like basic motels give. We understand keeping the motel in its more original state, but upping the quality of the amenities can go a long way to compensate for the dated rooms. We've been to other hotels that have done this, and it helps visitors feel like they are appreciated for staying at that hotel.

The best part about this property is the location - just across the street from the village. Our stay here was good and a nice value. The room is very dated with bathroom that badly needs to be renovated. The bed was actually comfortable. Service from the front desk was uneven - the guy who checked us in had a service attitude. A mixed stay but happy with the value on a holiday weekend.

You cannot beat the location. A short walk to the village/gondola and near lots of restaurants. The room was rustic and dated but clean. Shower water pressure was not great. My only real gripe is the lack of hotel maid service. I travel a lot and this is the only place I have visited that is still leaning on "COVID safety" to save money on daily maid service. If you charge regular hotel rates you should now provide regular hotel service.

Exceptional service This idyllic place is ideal for people who want to explore the wonderful nature surrounding the Lodge. Its rustic but elegant style, beautiful rooms and pool are a perfect combination for young and old. But the best feature of all is the friendliness and forthcoming way of its staff. Whatever you need, there will be someone to help and understand your problem. We've never before experienced such kindness.

Good things: Room size nice, hotel very clean (rooms and hallways all clean), amenities good. Front desk staff especially Martha very helpful and professional. parking easy just outside. Downside: No AC, so if it's 80 outside, you need to leave windows open, but it doesn't cool the room enough. They do leave you a fan in the room. There is a bar/restaurant connected to the hotel. While this is convenient for some, the result was super loud parties late into the night. Drunk people talking laughing, it was terrible. And then they moved the parties to the parking lot or the rooms. And we did not want to close the window as it was way too hot. As a result, we got absolutely no sleep. For that reason, we will not be going back to alpenhof lodge.

We stayed at this hotel in mid-June for a small family gathering. We loved that the place was right across the street from the "Village" and our daughter's condo was just a walk away as well. We had a second story king suite with a small living room and it wasn't a fancy place but it was nice, clean and quiet and the bed was comfortable. Our only complaint was the stall shower. It was very small and the shower head was not adjustable so when the water came out it almost hit me in the face and I had nowhere to avoid it! Also, be aware that there is no air conditioning, but they did supply a nice big fan. The steps leading up to the 2nd floor are very steep and there is no elevator so if you can't walk up steps you will need a room on the first floor. But other than that, it was a nice, short notice place to stay. And the woman who greeted us in the lobby was VERY friendly and helpful so all in all we were happy to have a nice place for the weekend that met all our needs.

To give the place the benefit of the doubt, let me start by mentioning that we went during high COVID restrictions. No Housekeeping No Pool/ Sauna NO BREAKFAST. Aside from location, those were the attractive features that gravitated our family of four to hotel instead of Airbnb, so I was surely disappointed upon my arrival. I found the staff was so consumed by letting us know of restrictions, they forgot to be cordial and welcoming, everything was "no" specially coming from Front Desk Martha, who was unaccommodating to the max. Her answer to us needing cleaning supplies to keep the room tidy, with two kids and cereal breakfasts, was for me to make sure my kids don't spill things on the carpet. I had to personally ask one of the housekeepers to lend me the vacuum cleaner, and other supplies to keep our place decently clean. Not offering breakfast when that is a trademark of their place and seen in multiple reviews, was very disappointing. Other places and motels we stayed in on our trip up offered boxed breakfasts with fruit, cheese and juice and more importantly a SMILE and GOOD ATTITUDE Alpenhof preferred to open Bar and Happy hour, that seemed odd considering they had to cancel breakfast a d ANY SEATING OUTSIDE IN PATIO even for a call, when EVERY OTHER business had open patio seating. Description of room The beds o.k., Linens and pillows o.k. Bathroom tiny, old Carpet old and crusty that days of stay with no cleaning, the crustiness augmented, hence the urgency of the vacuum. All in all, I would rate the hotel very average, they just bank on their location.

I'm sorry we didn't meet your expectations. State, County and City mandates required we make changes to many of our services, not only for the safety of our guests but for our staff too. We will continue to adjust, as mandates are lifted, to offer all that we can for our guests.

Located near the gondola, there are a few restaurants nearby. The bed is comfortable, the room is spacious. We were just glad they were open in these COVID times. Plenty of outdoor seating for the bar and the restaurant (Petra's), although Petra's didn't take reservations, and had an hour & a half wait every time we tried. The bar outdoor seating was nice, and most tables had some kind of shade.
