Detailed Reviews
The first person we encountered at the front desk was Martha, and she was wonderful. Very helpful, giving us information for the area, menus, and telling us to let the front desk know if we needed anything. The room was about what we expected having seen photos online. It has a lot of the original 1973 aspects to it. We stayed in a room with a king bed and a fireplace. We were lucky enough to have an end room on the second floor, so we had no problems with noise. Our bed wasn't terrible, though it was quite firm. The carpet on the floor threw us at first, since we don't see that as much nowadays, but then we remembered that the carpet is probably necessary for winter snow. The bathroom was average, again not terrible, but minimal in its amenities. The pool and hot tub were well kept, and the towels at the pool were helpful. We understand the hotel is dated, but even a dated hotel that is charging $169 per night could perhaps up the quality of the amenities. The towels were the thin, basic towels. The two bottles of water when we arrived were nice, but no more are given unless you pay, no matter how many nights you are staying. Glass cups would have been nice. Just two paper cups for coffee and two small plastic cups were given. Two tiny bars of soap were given for showering and hand washing, like basic motels give. We understand keeping the motel in its more original state, but upping the quality of the amenities can go a long way to compensate for the dated rooms. We've been to other hotels that have done this, and it helps visitors feel like they are appreciated for staying at that hotel.

+1
This charming European style lodge is spotless, spacious, well designed, and is located just steps from a lot of fun restaurants, the Mammoth gondola, and a small general store, yet is still nestled within the trees. Aside from the standard amenities, our room is very generous in size, has a firm but comfortable mattress, has convenient shelves and a small fridge, extra spots to hang jackets, and a pretty view of the snow and trees. I am normally a light sleeper but was not disturbed. The property is a tiny bit dated but that adds to its charm and the housekeeping staff keeps everything looking SPOTLESS. I also appreciated that it feels just like when we stayed in Switzerland. This is a great value for your money. 5 star for me! Will definitely stay again!

We stayed at this hotel in mid-June for a small family gathering. We loved that the place was right across the street from the "Village" and our daughter's condo was just a walk away as well. We had a second story king suite with a small living room and it wasn't a fancy place but it was nice, clean and quiet and the bed was comfortable. Our only complaint was the stall shower. It was very small and the shower head was not adjustable so when the water came out it almost hit me in the face and I had nowhere to avoid it! Also, be aware that there is no air conditioning, but they did supply a nice big fan. The steps leading up to the 2nd floor are very steep and there is no elevator so if you can't walk up steps you will need a room on the first floor. But other than that, it was a nice, short notice place to stay. And the woman who greeted us in the lobby was VERY friendly and helpful so all in all we were happy to have a nice place for the weekend that met all our needs.

Run down and over priced. Considering there is no microwave, no coffee maker, pool was closed. No maid service. Shower was built for 8 year old kids under 4’ tall. Water pressure was non existent. I will never stay in this dump again. City of Mammoth should condemn it. Waste of money. Spend a little bit more and stay at The Village Lodge.

I'm sorry we didn't meet your expectations. We have had to make many changes due to both state and county COVID mandates and many of our amenities and services have been discontinued, like daily maid service (for the safety of our guests as well as our staff) or closed due to social distancing requirements. We'd love to have you give us a second chance as restrictions open up and we are able to offer all of our service again.

I booked this lodge based solely on location and price. My husband, myself and our adult son stayed here for 3 nights in early January and overall, had a good experience. You can walk to everything, even the actual downtown part of Mammoth Lakes, about a mile away. And it's right across the street from the Village and gondola to Canyon Lodge. We stayed in the annex behind the main lodge, which I preferred because it is quieter -- until our neighbor next door decided to have a huge blowup with his wife/girlfriend. Yelling, doors banging, etc. I called the front desk at about 1 am and the man was helpful, telling me he would check on it right away. The noise died down after an hour or so. That was really the only negative, other than a very tight bathroom and dated (and sometimes stinky) main lodge. Especially around the hot tub area. On the positive side, the room was very spacious, the beds were very comfortable, everything in the room was clean, and the front desk people very helpful. Good for a short stay.

You cannot beat the location. A short walk to the village/gondola and near lots of restaurants. The room was rustic and dated but clean. Shower water pressure was not great. My only real gripe is the lack of hotel maid service. I travel a lot and this is the only place I have visited that is still leaning on "COVID safety" to save money on daily maid service. If you charge regular hotel rates you should now provide regular hotel service.

We appreciate your feedback. As of July we were able to adjust our staffing levels to provide additional in-room services, such as some daily maid services. As we are able, we will continue to add additional services. Hopefully we will see you back for another visit.

Good things:
Room size nice, hotel very clean (rooms and hallways all clean), amenities good. Front desk staff especially Martha very helpful and professional. parking easy just outside.
Downside:
No AC, so if it's 80 outside, you need to leave windows open, but it doesn't cool the room enough. They do leave you a fan in the room.
There is a bar/restaurant connected to the hotel. While this is convenient for some, the result was super loud parties late into the night. Drunk people talking laughing, it was terrible. And then they moved the parties to the parking lot or the rooms. And we did not want to close the window as it was way too hot.
As a result, we got absolutely no sleep.
For that reason, we will not be going back to alpenhof lodge.

The hotel has an appealing European alpine look but is a little outdated. My wife and I spent 3 nights in a small queen-sized room on the second floor. It was clean and comfortable. Considering it was summertime, the room was comfortable with the provided fan with the windows open. The design of the hotel's main building will require you to climb some stairs. The hotel is located on the edge of the village. It was a short walk to all the shops, restaurants, and bars. The drive to the Main Lodge and other points of interest in Mammoth Lakes was 10 to 15 minutes away. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The room had a small refrigerator and a generic coffee maker, which we used every morning, but no microwave. The hotel has a restaurant and bar, but we did not try them. We would consider staying here again.

The hotel is outdated and something you could maybe have found in Austria eons ago. We stopped by just for the night and chose it for its location. Never in my life have I met such a rude receptionist as the guy who was working there. Condescending, rude, patronizing and generally unhelpful. When my husband (whose English, although perfect is not his first language) did not catch something he was saying asked for the guy to elaborate, the guy very rudely looked at him with irritation and repeated exactly what he had just said. My husband then said “I am sorry for asking, but English is not my first language so sometimes I need to clarify somethings” to which the guy replied “yes, and that is why I am repeating myself”. When asked about the car pass through Yosemite he said “you can look it up online, but you should have probably down it months ago”. This was also not true, since there were hundreds of passes still available. The situation became so comical that I had to tell my husband that we check stuff ourselves from our room.
Cannot comment on the restaurant as did not have dinner there.

Exceptional service
This idyllic place is ideal for people who want to explore the wonderful nature surrounding the Lodge. Its rustic but elegant style, beautiful rooms and pool are a perfect combination for young and old. But the best feature of all is the friendliness and forthcoming way of its staff. Whatever you need, there will be someone to help and understand your problem. We've never before experienced such kindness.

I was there August 2017. If I recall correctly, breakfast starts at 7 and runs to 9 a.m. They have hot coffee and water for tea in the lobby for early risers to take to their rooms. Note breakfast is continental, German style: various breads, butter and jams, sliced cheeses and ham, hard boiled eggs, yoghurt, fruit, cold cereal and hot oatmeal. Enjoy!
Mammoth Lakes is a hub for outdoor activities: hiking and biking especially. There are a number of trails you can day hike and dedicated trails for biking (you cannot bike on hiking trails). The town provides free trolley transportation to many of the trailheads as well as bus service to some of the main trailheads for a small price (get a multi day pass and save $), The Alpenhof is across the Village where you catch most of the buses and trolleys so you are well situated. The hotel will have the town map with the trolley routes. The trolleys also have maps. On day one, take the trolley to the Visitor Centre on Main Street to plan your day hikes with a Ranger and get a map so you do not get lost! Day hikes include Devil's Postpile, Rainbow Falls, Minaret Falls or you can take the trolley to Lake Mary and hike up to Duck Pass and back. There are many trails you can do in this area. Mammoth Lakes is a great place to vacation if you like the outdoors.
we are located on the East side of the Sierra's about 45 minutes drive from the Yosemite gate via Tioga Pass.
Yosemite Valley is about a 2 hour drive from us.
The June Lake Loop is close with a neat little hike out to Parker Lake. Also, check out Devil's Postpile Monument and the hike to Rainbow Falls. Maybe in September, you'll be seeing the beginning of fall colors. We were there in October last year and the colors were beautiful, especially along the June Lake Loop.
