Don't know why I didn't listen to the bad reviewers here. The place was dirty, too expensive, and smelly. I didn't expect much and it still didn't meet my standards of acceptability. I'd definitely skip this place if I were you.

Reading all about the hotel on this site I thought that the people who put it down were used to antiseptic modern American standards. As a longtime budget world traveler, I expected to love the art and spirit of the place. Was I wrong!! Slovenly upkeep and a rude staff do not make offbeat charm. Fortunate are those who have... I read a few of the reviews on here before booking this hotel, and even without having seen the place, I realised that the majority just don't get what this place is all about! It's obvious from the website/pictures that the hotel is a run-down, historic building in the middle of nowhere, so I'm not sure what a lot of... More

The hotel lobby was interesting, as was the concept of an operating Opera House in the middle of "nowhere" (we happened to stay on a performance night). But, I wouldn't recommend staying overnight here unless you're into a lot of atmosphere and not into comfort. The bed was squeaky, wobbly, uncomfortable, and small. The paint is peeling, and the grout... More

One can hardly rate the Amargosa Hotel on scales. Being there is so unique, ratings 1-5, for example, are hardly sufficient. Going there was an experience I'll never forget. My friend and I were in this hotel Jan. 26th, 2008, a Saturday evening. We were placed in the Red Skelton room and found it delightful. (Art work in there is... More

We arrived very late and appeared to be about the only guest in the hotel. After changing hotel rooms 3 times (since the rooms did not work properly varying from heating, shower problems) we had to change another time in the middle of the night due to heating problems. There was nobody in the hotel to talk to and we... More

First off, I would like to say that I love old buildings and history and out of the way, odd and unusual places. I'm not going to go into the history of the place here as every other review has. But, the place stank of cat pee as soon as we walked in and got worse as we walked down... More

Ok, I read the negative reviews on this site and I must say that the people who wrote them just don't get it. Ok, the Armagosa Opera House and Hotel are not the Bellagio. You can drive an hour and stay at that strip hotel if you like, and pay $500 for that experience. I like 'em both. The opera... More

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Amargosa Opera House Hotel while touring Death Valley during Nov 9-11, 2007. We stayed at this hotel because no affordable hotel rooms were available in Death Valley. Only the Furnace Creek Inn had rooms which were far beyond our budget. The Amargosa Opera House Hotel is located in Death Valley Junction which is... More

Our room (#20) had two beds, and seemed a little larger than the other rooms. Most of the rooms seemed slightly smaller than the average modern motel room. We were near rooms 22 & 24, which are reputed to be haunted. Room #22 was once Red Skelton's favorite room. The proprietor, Marta Becket, painted a mural of clowns in this... More
