I wrote the following thank-you note to the folks at Amargosa Hotel: Many thanks for finding room for a very tired traveler at your hotel last week. I'm the guy who was lucky enough to find a cancellation that allowed me to spend the night in Room 5. It was an absolutely unforgettable experience and was the highlight of an...

OK, the place is rated as a non-profit, so maybe I expected too much. However, I wasn't interested in the history of the place or the Opera House. I just wanted a decent room at a fair price. Had I been there on a weekend for the opera, I might have been able to justify the price of $67 with...

Enjoyed our stay here. Shabby chic furnishings, but clean and comfortable. Not for those who require 5-star amenities, but a must for seasoned travellers who appreciate flavor over modernity. And the pies at the nearby cafe are amazing.

If you seek the same exacting experience when you stay at a hotel, The O-House is not for you. Most of the reviews regarding the condition are spot on...but listen, the sheets were clean, the shower was hot, the staff was approachable and friendly...yes, you may need to wait for coffee because there were only two pots brewing (the manager...

The Armagosa is simple and spare and a delight. The staff was exceedingly friendly, helpful and thoughtful. Our room was simple, no TV, no microwave, no phone (there was WIFI access in our room, though) but we enjoyed the lovely peacock mural over the bed and the decorations throughout the hotel and sitting on the chairs outside our room watching...

This is a great place to stay when going to Death Valley especially if your are traveling on a budget. If you are looking for the Venetian Hotel, Las Vegas, this isn't it. It also won't cost you an arm and a leg. It's just a clean room and a nice hot shower. It's a great place for a family...

Five minutes turned into two hours. We stopped for breakfast, checked out the hotel, were greeted warmly and became enchanted with the whole place and experience. In the middle of nowhere, we found people with a passion. The opera house is a monument to perseverance and vision. The art work is good. The idea of conducting performances is no less...

This place, as others have more eloquently stated, is for those who love the desert for the sake of the desert. I expected to be happy with hot and cold running water (we usually camp in the Jeep), but got an experience that will last a lifetime. The building is time-worn adobe with spartan but comfortable rooms. The rooms were...

Although we only spent one night here, it was worth every cent and the pictures on the internet don't do it justice. More than a place to sleep, it was an experience! It is our hope to return again to spend more time in the area.

I am an active day hiker and off-road back-country explorer. Since 1991, I have visited Death Valley National Park five times. Each stay has been a minimum of 5-8 days. I have on occasion stayed in the park and spent the additional costs for mostly the convenience of less driving miles each day, but I prefer to stay at the...
