This hotel is old and tacky, yet the beds are comfortable and the shower great! No food, wifi only when sitting in or near reception, and there is no view to speak of, but surprisingly it is fun. Certainly overpriced for the stay, but where they are they can charge what they like.

We loved our two night stay! It was quiet, lovely, unique, and retro. The history of this place is amazing! Take the opera house tour, walk the grounds and take pictures, sit outside your room and talk to your neighbors. Our room was very clean and quiet. The bathroom was still tiled in the original green tile and the shower... More

This place is just way way back in time. When you look inside the reception area you immediately think of old western movies and just what it would have been like in those days gone by. Of the 20 rooms only 7 are available. Sure, they are tired, old, have no facilities, but if you're a historian and love old... More

Amenities were lacking, but we were on vacation to experience as much of Death Valley as possible, so they were not necessary. Room #9 was fine, air conditioner was loud, but worked fine. Great art work in room. Adequate bed and shower, clean enough. Nice people especially LaWanda and Jenna. Enjoyed a ballet performance in a special place. The opera... More

The place is on its last legs structurally, and the only food on offer is coffee, but that's NOT why people go there. It's a monument to one person's determination (and it's also the cheapest place to stay near the Park HQ). By the time you have checked it out online you will either have decided it's not for you,... Originally booked because of the central location to the activities my sister and I wanted to do. Yes, the plaster is cracked, no there was no TV in our room. BUT the history and the stories and the legacy of Marta, well we were completely moved by our experience there. If you need WiFi everywhere, need a TV in your... More

Had it not been around midnight when we reached the hotel, we would have walked right out and not looked back. Our room and bathroom were decrepit beyond repair: crumbling/broken walls, broken sink with black ridges, old smelly carpet etc...It was the worse hotel stay we can recall from over 60 years of traveling all over the world in sometimes... The Opera House, which is attached to the hotel (or vice versa), is a wonder, and should be seen by anyone in the vicinity. Tours are advertised as available daily 8 am to 9 pm ($5 per person), and may be arranged through the desk clerk. The hotel is another story. The first thing one sees when driving up is... More

I'm actually glad I stayed here even though my allergies were bothered a little bit. It was about 20 degrees cooler at this place than at Furnace Creek where I was also considering staying. The hotel is very remote and there's pretty much nothing around. It has great views and I thought it was awesome that I saw the wild... More

If you are looking for a gorgeous urban hotel, probably this place is not for you. But in desert this place is cool and brings peace of mind. Hotel staffs are nice and well behaved. This hotel is having a nice history with miners and later Marta Becket's tireless effort to maintain a life in the desert through her dance... More
