Spencer House Inn, built in 1872, is located in the heart of the St. Marys Historic District, within walking distance to restaurants, shops, museums and the ferry to Cumberland Island National Seashore. We can make your ferry reservation and pack a picnic lunch for you as you head off for your adventure on a beautiful, undeveloped and pristine barrier island - the beach was voted "one of the best wild beaches" by National Geographic Traveler magazine. You'll enjoy relaxing in the cypress rockers on the Inn's verandahs. Walk to the waterfront park, fishing pier and boat ramp. Take a leisurely stroll around our historic village. There are 2 championship golf courses nearby. Okefenokee Wildlife Refuge is 45 minutes away. The beaches of Jekyll, St. Simons and Amelia Island are a short drive from our St. Marys, Georgia bed and breakfast.

We arrived late at night and were notified on how to check in after hours. A smooth arrival to be expected. When we actually arrived, the front desk staff were still here waiting for us. We were given room 206, a queen room. This room is right at the top of the stairs. Also a queen bed in the south isn’t necessarily a queen bed. Ours was a double, not even a full. The room was well decorated and I believe to the time period of the House. So everything is sitting lower, bed and chairs. A basic breakfast is included. Eggs, bacon, cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, juice and coffee were part of the basic breakfast. The do offer other choices at an additional cost. They offer dinner for an additional charge as well as alcoholic beverages. On the morning of our departure we were the only ones staying at the Inn and they still laid everything out for us. Very personal service. If you like staying at Bed and Breakfast places this is a great place.

We had the best stay this past weekend. Service was amazing, the room was spectacular and the breakfast was delicious. They even packed us a lunch for our day trip to Cumberland Island. If you are in the St. Marys area this B & B is a must. Every need is accounted for and the ambiance is top-notch. Thank you!

I hate to write this because I have never written a review that hasn't been glowingly positive before, but reviews are so helpful to me for planning my trips and I appreciate everyone's honesty. I am the kind of person who has been pleased with $15-20/night hostels as long as I know what to expect, so I want to ensure if you book, you know how to manage your expectations. The room itself was fine and the location is perfect for visiting Cumberland Island. I wouldn't hesitate to visit again if the price was about $150 lower. I understand ownership of this property has recently changed and hopefully they will work out the kinks. For now, if you are looking for a special place to celebrate an occasion or looking for that higher level of service, I would look elsewhere. I had paid for a dozen chocolate strawberries at the time of my reservation. Upon check-in, they were not in the room as I expected, but no big deal. When we came back to the room at about 8pm, they still were not there. We waited as another guest complained about not receiving items they had paid for. When we inquired about the strawberries I was simply told they would get back to me. At about 9:45pm we finally received 9 (not a dozen) strawberries that were not exactly what was pictured when I ordered. Fine for us, but if you were hoping to have these to celebrate an occasion or surprise someone, I would frankly be embarrassed and there is no way to justify them being $25 for what we received. There were other minor service issues (had to google the number to call the inn at check-out as we waited several minutes at the front desk and no one came to assist to check us out; subpar breakfast). Just not things I would expect for a 4 star hotel. However, if money is not a concern and you just want a clean place to stay close to the Island, this place is very adequate for those purposes.

This Bed & Breakfast was a fantastic experience. The owner, GM, and all the staff was absolutely amazing. The Spencer house has such authenticity with a twist. I will definitely be returning soon, and bringing friends/family! The food was delicious and full of flavor. Anything you need, they will go up and beyond to accommodate you.

We spent 4 days, 3 nights at this beautiful B&B. My husband read about this B&B in a series of books by Cap Daniels. We needed a handicapped accessible place and The Spencer House Inn did not disappoint. There's a ramp up to the side door, wide doorways, our room on the first floor was perfect for us with easy access to the bathroom and Tiffany did anything she could to ensure that my husband could easily get around the B&B. We didn't need it, but there is also an elevator in this B&B, which is really handy. Tiffany was awesome. She was friendly and helpful on the phone when my husband booked and she was friendly & helpful with everything we needed during our stay. She did everything she could to ensure that our week was perfect. The B&Bs location to the waterfront added another wonderful attribute. We would definitely return.

Quaint, lovely B&B. The service was impeccable, breakfast fantastic. Great location for visiting Cumberland Island, and walking to bars and restaurants. We were fortunate that they new all about the area and suggested that we bring a packed lunch. We had them pack a lunch for us that was yummy and got us through our 7 hour tour of the island.

This was our second visit to Spencer House. Hosts Tiffany and Jake made our stay very enjoyable. They were engaging, interested in our St. Mary's experiences and very helpful. Breakfast was hot and delicious. Highly recommended.

Husband and I enjoyed our one night stay at the inn before our camping trip on Cumberland Island. We loved the atmosphere, location, and breakfast. We enjoyed talking with other travelers on the patio in the evening. Bed wasn’t super comfortable and there were some minor overlooked details (like a missing doorknob in the bathroom), but overall it was a lovely experience.

We had a wonderful 3-night stay! We mentioned it was our anniversary when we made our reservations months before, and on our anniversary morning we had a text from Spencer House wishing us a happy anniversary. When we arrived later that day we were greeted by Jake, and our room was clean and welcoming. There was delicious peach iced tea and a brownie for an afternoon snack and we felt very comfortable and welcome. The next morning we were up early for a day on the ferry to see Cumberland Island, and they served us a wonderful breakfast early enough so we’d have plenty of time to arrive at the ferry. The breakfast was perfect- home made granola with yogurt, a hot egg casserole with bacon and breakfast breads and plenty of fresh coffee and juice. They packed us a picnic lunch for our adventure on Cumberland and that was also perfect. A frozen water bottle kept everything cold in an insulated lunchbox with a shoulder strap for easy carrying. Lemonade, a sub, chips, an apple, cookies, peanut butter crackers and a granola bar. More than enough for lunch and a snack after a long day of hiking. Jake makes a wonderful breakfast, is very personable and welcoming along with Tiffany, Shannon, Lindsey and Madison. The next two days followed suit and we left feeling like we couldn’t wait to come back. I would not hesitate to recommend a stay here!
