Spencer House Inn, built in 1872, is located in the heart of the St. Marys Historic District, within walking distance to restaurants, shops, museums and the ferry to Cumberland Island National Seashore. We can make your ferry reservation and pack a picnic lunch for you as you head off for your adventure on a beautiful, undeveloped and pristine barrier island - the beach was voted "one of the best wild beaches" by National Geographic Traveler magazine. You'll enjoy relaxing in the cypress rockers on the Inn's verandahs. Walk to the waterfront park, fishing pier and boat ramp. Take a leisurely stroll around our historic village. There are 2 championship golf courses nearby. Okefenokee Wildlife Refuge is 45 minutes away. The beaches of Jekyll, St. Simons and Amelia Island are a short drive from our St. Marys, Georgia bed and breakfast.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed here, and loved it. The Spencer Inn is located in the historic district of St Marys, and we chose this inn bc they are wheelchair accessible + convenient to the ferry for Cumberland Island. They have a ramp, elevator, and large rooms to accommodate families, and it’s a short walk to the riverfront. The inn serves breakfast and there are snacks in the afternoon, but they will also pack lunches for a afternoon trip to Cumberland Island for a small charge. We stayed the week of my birthday, and my husband could arrange for a flower delivery through the inn, and the inn made a delicious French Toast breakfast on the day of my breakfast. We all loved Riverside Cafe which serves Greek food and is a short walk from the inn. My husband loved sitting on the veranda at the inn. We would definitely stay here again!

Absolutely perfect stay. The hosts were so friendly and accommodating. It was the picture of Southern hospitality. They were also extremely mindful of cleanliness and safety. There were gloves available at the refreshment area and staff wore masks. Iced tea and cookies were out for afternoon snacks. The room was clean, comfortable, and quiet. I would definitely go back. And, they know how to make a good cup of coffee!

For a CHristmas present, I gave my husband tickets to the Amelia Island Concours D'elegance car show. Originally scheduled in March and changed to May 2021. When I purchased the tickets in November,2019, hotels close to the show an on Amelia Island were already full. One place asking $600 a nite (equivalent to a Comfort Inn) So, I began to look at maps and found st. Mary's about 35 minutes away. It was a super find and a wonderful experience in between going to the show. Spencer House is a delightful B&B on the main street. ,close to the water and right near a few sweet restaurants. One with great live music. The B&B is run by owner,Mary.
Mary is always available and offers many suggestions for restaurants and local amenities. Friendly, as is her staff and very accomodating. Mary was gracious enough to switch or reservations when we found out about the change in dates as well.
Our room was on the second floor. Large and comfortable. A wonderful porch right outside with rocking chairs and a couch, overlooking the main street. Also 2 other porches with "like" seating. Breakfast was tasty and carefully prepared and served as covid precautions were still being followed. Spencer House was actually a very nice break after long days at the car show. Couldn't recommend it more highly! And, it is right down the street from the ferry to Cumberland Island, which we did not get to because of the 3 full days at the car show, but we will be back for that!!

This may have been the worst stay ever at a bed and breakfast. I don't know what happened to this place but it is nothing like past ratings and reviews. The people running this place have no idea how to run a bed-and-breakfast. The only positive thing I can say is that the bed was comfortable. Bathtub/shower was like taking your life in your hands and was chipped and had hair in it. You're not welcomed to breakfast and they just shouted from the kitchen that you could sit anywhere. No one wore a mask but everything you ordered was small portions and sealed. Food was poor. Karaoke played at a nearby bar until 2am so we had to move rooms. We left a day early just to get away from this place, and the people running it sat and watched us take our luggage out instead of helping. It was bad.

The Spencer House and its delicious, gourmet breakfasts, were the highlight of our visit to St. Mary's. We'd come to St. Mary's to bicycle in the area and Mary, our hostess, had even ensured secure storage for our bikes. We had a cheery, large corner room with an extremely comfortable king bed. We especially enjoyed sitting out on one of the two porches for morning coffee and evening conversations with other inn guests. Because of COVID one needs to order breakfast and a breakfast time the night before. Guests are seated separately at individual tables in the dining room, and breakfast meals are delivered to your table, each dish covered with plastic wrap. Breakfasts were so yummy, generous and filling that we didn't get hungry again until dinner! Mary and her husband are a treasure trove of information about the local history of the area, the Inn, and the local restaurants. While we didn't visit Cumberland Island, we did cycle up to Crooked River State Park one day and visited the Submarine museum and strolled all over town on another. The environment was so peaceful and quiet it was like stepping back in time. The only challenge we experienced was the clawfoot tub with shower. This was because there was no soap tray attached to the shower tub. You either had to keep the soap, shampoo, etc. outside the shower curtain where the floor go wet every time you parted the shower curtain to access, or on the bottom of the tub where you had to bend down to use and your hair got all wet. Otherwise, we had a delightful stay and will return again when we come back to book a visit to Cumberland Island.

We spent a relaxing night in a very comfortable ,warmly decorated bedroom and were treated to a delicious breakfast in the morning...
Cheese soufflé omelette with sausage, homemade pumpkin bread, homemade granola, yogurt, fresh fruit and unlimited cups of coffee.
The staff are incredibly friendly,& the B&B is a Select Registry Lodging within walking distance to the riverfront, restaurants and shops.
Just a great place to relax and enjoy all St Mary’s has to offer.
It was a special time for us and when my guy called ahead to let them know, they followed through with a beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers just as he ordered!

My husband booked this stay, so I didn’t know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. The staff goes out of their way to make sure everything is just right. There is so much history in this inn, and the staff takes pride in the inn and in the local community. We were given recommendations for our Cumberland Island trip, dinner, and even invited to a local bar crawl while we were there! If you are going to the island, have the inn staff pack your picnic lunch! Food was adorably packed in a reusable lunch cooler with plenty of snacks and water, and fresh veggies including grape tomatoes from the garden. This is a true gem. The town is easily walkable and safe at night. As a side note- this is a historical inn and has been preserved in much of its original state, so do not expect boutique hotel, but if this is your thing, you will love it.

My wife and I took the advice of good friends and travelled to St. Mary, Georgia in order to visit Cumberland Island for our first "post-vaccination" trip. What a wonderful experience!. When we first arrived we were greeted by our host Mary who guided us to our room and helped us instantly feel at home. Our room on the front of the Inn was wonderful, very comfortable and clean. Over the next few days Mary guided us through a Cumberland Island Tour, recommended great restaurants, and arranged for tours of St. Mary's and a museum. We highly recommend the Spencer Inn, it's wonderful breakfast, and the marvelous Mary.

We greatly enjoyed our stay at the Spencer House Inn Bed and Breakfast. Our room was very comfortable and delightfully decorated, as was the entire house. Mary, Mike and staff went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our stay, both at the inn and in St. Mary's. Their breakfasts are plentiful, the oatmeal was to die for and the baked goods home made and delicious. We arrived the afternoon of the town sponsored Mardi Gras, a relaxing small-town event with a parade and local vendors and food carts along the beautiful waterfront park. It was a delightful, relaxing event, crowned by a country music concert held in a new open-sided band stand featuring Pam Tillis. You can walk around the peaceful town, enjoying the quiet streets and quaint homes, visit the local history museum, a lovely bookstore and several small shops. We ate one delicious dinner at 401 West while watching a lovely sunset and had excellent shrimp scampi at our second dinner at the Riverfront Cafe. We took a ferry to Cumberland Island accompanied by a lunch packed by Mary and had a delightful time on The Land and Legacy Tour. At the end of the day we were happy to retire to the inn for a good night's sleep. St. Mary's is a quiet town but there is an energy in the community working to create a warm and welcoming experience for visitors. The town is close to Amelia, Jekyll, and St. Simons Islands and Jacksonville if you want to explore but I plan on staying at Spencer House Inn if I am lucky enough to return.

There are elevators. I do not recall any water views but the views of the street, town, are lovely. I cannot answer about ADA rooms.
Yes. Right outside the side door, under a roof, with rocking chairs. :)
