The York River Inn Bed and Breakfast is a beautiful, colonial-style home. We had a clean room and bathroom with a gorgeous view. We even had snow on our visit. Bill, the inn keeper and owner is a true walking encyclopedia of history. His knowledge is impressive. Bill made a delicious breakfast, especially the Posset!!! We look forward in returning one day soon!!
Stayed for two nights in the river view room in December to enjoy the Christmas festivities in Yorktown. The inn is charming with colonial decor and the inn keeper's extensive collection of books and maps. The inn keeper, Bill, made the stay so enjoyable. He is so knowledgeable about the area and history in general. He is also an amazing cook. The breakfasts were delicious and unique. I will be returning for a second stay.
I stayed here for 5 nights back in July while on vacation from the uk with my daughter. Perfectly placed for visits to the historic triangle. Bill is a fantastic host with a view on everything and a source of information on everything from A to Z. The breakfasts were sublime and we were delighted that Bill made us Staffordshire oatcakes one morning to pay homage to where we come from! Possibly the first time they have ever been made in the states! Overall a brilliant place to stay and we would definitely stay again if we return to the area. PS Bills recommendation about the pub was spot on re where to eat. Crab cakes to die for
Bill is the best guide for this area hands down. The conversations around the breakfast table are like taking a crash coarse on all the history you can soak up. Talking to Bill before you set out on your day is an absolute must. The breakfast will be top notch with much attention to detail. If you love books, history and a very gracious host, do not miss this place!
We stayed two nights in the Washington Suite for our anniversary. It's a beautifully appointed and a spacious room with sitting area and view of the river and bridge. The sunsets were spectacular. My husband, a history major, so enjoyed all the books and prints in the room. I enjoyed the beautiful antiques, the bidet and whirlpool tub. Also, the fresh flowers in the room from Bill's gardens around the inn. Watching all the various birds and humming birds that visited his outside deck for seed and nectar was a pleasure. Bill is a fabulous host. A native Virginian, he is very knowledgeable about so many things. He is a master chef and baker. The breakfasts were extraordinary with amazing attention to detail. Sunday morning we were served baked fresh pineapple with maraschino cherries. They were the best maraschino cherries I've ever tasted. Bill humbly explained he makes the cherries himself. Some of the other delights were scotch eggs, warm coconut custard and Classic French Brandade de Morue (codfish). He also provided homemade sweet baked treats through out the day that were delightful. The location was absolutely perfect...private on the bluff yet close to everything. There was a private beach within walking distance. Also, the river walk with shops, restaurants and historic sites. We chose to drive to the public parking (3 minutes) simply because of the hot weather. There is also a free trolley, it stops running at 5pm. We absolutely highly recommend York River Inn. We hope to return in the fall. Thank you for your gracious hospitality!…
