“…it is a capital enterprise located in a capital building…and I trust will prove a capital success…” These words, we lovingly refer to as the first Capital Idea, inspired the birth of a hotel that has remained Little Rock’s “front porch” for 140 years. Since the 1876 debut many other Capital Ideas have found their way into the hotel through numerous renovations and the most recent full restoration completed in 2007. The culmination is the uncompromising comfort and convenience of a modern luxury hotel without any compromise of its rare historic character. The inspiration for our customer service is our dedication to personal attention and care often found when visiting friends and family. Instead of rehearsed scenarios, guests are personally greeted, welcomed, and immersed in an approach to service we call Southern Comfortable. Not surprisingly, “Be Huggable” is regarded as the North Star of our core values.

The hotel is in a nice spot. Lots on places to eat right down the street and near the river. It’s a cool looking old building. The lobby is really cool. When I walked in a lady rushed over to me like I didn’t belong there and asked what I wanted. It seemed attack oriented which was weird. This affected my opinion.

My wife and I recently traveled from TX to northern Michigan. Little Rock is in the path for our go to and return trips. I AM A PICKY GUY. I want CLEAN and upscale if I can get it. This hotel has both. First of all I have stayed at the cattle car hotels including the one across the street; and, don't want to do that any more. We booked a room while driving north; and, of course did it again when returning south. Would I do that twice if I didn't like my stay? Of course not. Rooms were awesome, service in bar restaurant was great (My wife Loves Jake) and the breakfast restaurant was beyond my standard of excellence. Well Done Keep it Up.

Truly disappointed! Restaurant staff is simply rude and have no sense of urgency; Waited 30 minutes for a drink! Unbelievable! The only good thing about the hotel is the front desk staff (Stephen, Matt, and Cloe.) Stephen and Matt are simply pleasant; Cloe went over and beyond by listening and offering to make up for my terrible experience at restaurant. She even wrote a nice note and had it placed in my room with pecans. Needless to say, Hopefully this review changes some elements of the restaurant.

Stayed here for one night with my husband. It’s a nice hotel in a good location, not sure it’s worth the hype though as it’s pretty run down. Had a very strange experience when parking our car as well as we parked it in the parking lot, only for the security guard to then tell us to drive around to the front of the building for the valet to literally do the exact same thing - not what you want to hear after a three hour drive, not great for the environment and not worth $25!!!! Felt very conned by this action to be honest and therefore didn’t walk away with a great feeling about this hotel unfortunately…

Dear Makthetravellingmole, We are so appreciative of your review. My sincere apologies for the frustration you experienced due to parking. In the Little Rock Downtown area, valet parking is the standard; it is convenient for our guests and still allows them access to their car 24 hours per day. Thank you for taking the time to write and we look forward to seeing you again. Sincerely, Gregory Pirkle General Manager

Wow. Came in here just wanting to get a drink, and ended up absolutely falling in love with the atmosphere of the Capital Hotel Bar & Grill. Not only was the atmosphere great, but our server- who goes by, Jake, was just absolutely captivating. He was so eloquent with his words in addition to being very professional. He was one of most, if not, the MOST personable person I have come in contact with (considering the short amount of time I was with him, I felt like I had just had a night out with an old friend). Can’t say enough great things about Jake, but the bartenders were so on top of communicating with each other (coming from someone in the restaurant industry), as well as forming relationships with each guest that comes in. Main point is: Jake from Capital is just amazing, and he has a great mentality that makes people (especially me), gravitate towards him.

We have stayed at the Capital for years, several weekends a year, because our kids attend camp and retreats in Arkansas and we drive them from Dallas. We used to LOVE the hotel and would never dream of staying anywhere else. However, the last two stays were incredibly disappointing. The first time I blamed low staff due to Covid. The second time, I wrote a letter to the General Manager and didn't hear back for a few months until she responded to my Google review and didn't address any of my concerns. They no longer had van service to take us to dinner and pick us up. Meanwhile, we had driven 6 hours in the rain and Uber wasn't available for 30 minutes. We always enjoyed having interesting flavored water and iced tea in the lobby, that was also gone. We weren't offered bell service. When I asked for it, I was told "It will probably be faster to run it up yourself." We always loved the breakfast before checking out. The restaurant was closed for breakfast on Sunday. The icing on the cake was when we saw the hotel driver the following night, he told us he was available to take us to dinner. The valet told him to go ask the manager. We saw her nod her head "no". The last time we were in town we stayed across the street. We decided to go to the Capital for a drink after dinner because they always had our favorite wines by the glass. Well, they had changed the wine list and basically told us the bar was closing at 10:30. It was 10:15 on a Saturday night. So, yeah...the new corporate ownership has ran the place down and all the personal touches we missed, are actually gone. Thankfully, they still have the wonderful staff. It's quite heartbreaking actually.

First, allow me to say I arrived at this landmark establishment, last minute at the busiest possible moment one could have chosen-right before a live performance of Hamilton began in the theater a block up the street. There were a few hiccups but a mad props shout-out to my sister Katy, she did everything she could have done to make sure that I was happy the whole time I was there. Kore and Cameron, you gentlemen are my angels. Chloe, you are a rock solid Queen! This hotel is an institution for good reason. The food in both restaurants is consistently great. The staff strives for excellence. Believe what you will, but remember that haters going to hate. Lastly, I ask for some grace and humanity for all of the pronouns who are working diligently, on tired feet and let's all please try and stop being hateful and so hard to please. Desperate times and all... thank you for your attention <3

My partner and I are checking out this morning after a one night stay at The Capital, Little Rock’s oldest and - seemingly - its most prestigious hotel. We are doing a wider tour of the south (visiting from the UK) and I kept coming back to this hotel and eventually booked it having read a bit of the background of the hotel and wanting to experience it for myself. It’s not the style of hotel I’d usually go for but I have to say I’ve been pleasantly surprised. Valet parking is $25 so definitely skip that, plenty of parking on street and in nearby lots. There’s a huge lot right by the hotel which I assume they own and which they park you in but why you should pay $25 plus tips for this is beyond me. There’s probably a good reason it was almost completely empty on both days. Check-in was smooth, and staff friendly if a little austere. Lots of “yes, Sir” which I’m not really for but I guess some people probably book hotels like this wanting but which feels a little affected and even uncomfortable. The elevator from the lobby is massive and could easily fit a hospital bed but for the true experience it’s worth taking the rather eye-catching staircase. Rooms are luxuriously kitted out with quality finishes and furnishings and are very well maintained. The overall look is a little chintzy but thankfully they’ve gone for clean white bedding which tones it down somewhat. Molton Brown toiletries are a nice touch. The hotel hasn’t quite got the 5 star experience down, however. (This may go some way to explaining why Hotels.com actually rate it as a 2.5 star.) Although it has two restaurants there’s no gym (there’s a set up with a nearby one or something but I opted to jog around downtown instead since it wasn’t in the building and I couldn’t be bothered to figure it out) and no spa or pool. There’s a free wifi which works adequately but can drop off. The technology in the room is a bit poor - TV is small and basic (likely in order that it fit inside the grave marker-like armoire thing they house it in which feels unnecessary and limits viewing from the bed) and there’s no option to cast to it so you’re stuck with what little options there are on. Lots of the channels are also prompting you to upgrade your TV package to view them. A Chromecast or something might be a good idea if they aren’t going to improve the TVs themselves. The rooms have no tea or coffee making facilities but the staff do put out coffee in the lobby which goes some way to making up for this. There’s also no water in the room - I do think at this price they ought to provide complimentary water for guests but they don’t appear to. We had breakfast in the morning in the restaurant to the left of the lobby. It came to $45 in total with tip for a couple bits and drinks and was okay - again the service here was a bit stuffy and definitely not the friendliest we’ve encountered on our trip. On our checkout, I checked our bill. They’d charged $100 for incidentals which I thought was rather a lot, especially given I don’t remember them mentioning the amount when they took the card at checking in. They clarified for me that we’d get this back shortly, however, and gave a printed bill without quibble. All in all, it’s a good hotel. I’d advise to stay for the history, and if you haven’t stayed in a period style property before that it might be quite novel over the budget options (Hilton Garden Inn, Wyndham, La Quinta etc all nearby) and the Marriott across the road which is due a renovation. Is it the best hotel I’ve stayed in this side of the pond? No. Would I stay again? Probably, I would. It’s well located, immaculately clean and the bed was incredible and at the root of it that’s what everyone is really looking for.
