I stayed at this hotel in room 906, from Aug 15th -25th, and it is a great hotel to stay solo or with family. Located in the heart of Korea Town and within walking distance to shopping areas on 34th street, pharmacies, gift shops, all types of Korean dishes. I was even able to walk to Time Square (42nd Street) and also walked to my Dr's appointment on East 36th Street. I had my Metro card from previous visits to NY, but I had no need to use it even once.
I was on the 9th floor and got a room at the back with a view of roofing equipment (as always), but I must say I was very impressed with this hotel. From check-in, the gentlemen was so friendly and even made a joke, which lighened my droopy jet-lagged mood. Surprisingly, the security deposit was minimal compared to the previous hotels I've stayed.
For safety, there are security stationed in the lobby area. The hallways are very well lit and clean, and the room was very big (compared to previous hotels where I stayed), it was beautiful, clean, well lit, and had all the amenities as listed in the hotel ad. There is also a small gym in the basement, which I got to use once.
Most of the staff had a great attitude toward guests. There was an African American young man (may be a security) who held an umbrella over me and my friend's head and individually walked us to our Lyft waiting outside in the pouring rain. We were so grateful. Thank you, sir. The housekeeping staff did a superb job with the daily cleaning, organizing, and restocking the room with toiletries and coffee packages, and although I didn't have much cash to leave them a tip, they kept on cleaning the room faithfully and beautifully every day.
The AC in the room stopped working by the 3rd day into my stay, so the room became very hot. However, I never reported it until the day before I checked out, so it was my fault for enduring the prolonged discomfort, because when I eventually reported it, it was sorted in less than 5 minutes.
I took away 1 star for service due to the lengthy wait times for the elevator, and also, when I called down to the front desk to get stuff sent to my room.
Normally, I don't do hotel pics, but just because I was so impressed with this hotel, I took some pics to show. I know everyone experiences might be different, but I hope this review helps you guys when choosing a hotel to stay in NY.

We arrived early on a Sunday and Tom who checked us in was very personable. He even allowed us early check-in without a fee so that we wouldn’t have to store our bags. Our room was nice, comfortable and well-kept, especially for an older property. Although we didn’t request service, the maid(?) asked when I passed her in the hall if we were sure we didn’t want our room service. Every staff member from the bellman to the maintenance man was especially friendly. I only discovered after we had checked out that there was complimentary fresh ground coffee in the mornings if you went down to the lower level below the lobby. My biggest issue was the noise at night. Our room was on the fifth floor overlooking the front of the hotel. Every night of the three nights we were there, there was an almost constant noise of either trucks unloading or trash being picked up. Fortunately, I had my AirPods to block out the sound. Otherwise, I might have gotten so little sleep that I might have requested to change to a room on the back side of the hotel. There is a really nice rooftop bar literally in the shadow of the Empire State Building. I’m also not sure that this hotel is ADA compatible as you have to climb 3-4 steps to get in and there is no ramp or even railing. This was somewhat of an issue for my visually impaired wife. Also, this street is so busy that you sometimes have to wait for an opening in the sidewalk to step out. This hotel is in a good, but very busy location just down the block from the 34th Street and Herald Square subway stop. The street itself is also filled with shops and restaurants, some of which are so popular that there’s a line on the sidewalk. While I liked the facility itself, I would prefer a quieter place a little further from so much tourist activity.

The Hotel at Fifth Avenue team is delighted to hear that you found the room comfortable and appreciated the personable service from Tom and the rest of the team. They’re pleased to offer great amenities like the rooftop bar and complimentary morning coffee, though they regret you discovered it after your stay. It's understood that the bustling street noise may not suit everyone, and they're glad your AirPods helped. Accessibility insights are valued and will surely be taken into account. The location offers convenience but can indeed be lively at times. The hotel team hopes to welcome you back in a setting more to your preference. Kucuk Bag Hotel Manager

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveler reviews.
The hotel is no doubt in a very central position- with a subway just at the end of the street it’s incredibly easy to get from A to B.
The reception area in the hotel and the rooftop bar have been refurbed nicely which creates a good impression upon arrival. Unfortunately the rooms were not up to scratch. Of course we didn’t expect a lot as we had got a good deal for the hotel. The room was very small, the decor was very dated and the noise from the street below (we stayed on the second floor) was absolutely awful! The bed was a good size and was very comfortable and it was great to get clean towels every day.
I agree with other reviews about the attitude of the reception staff. There was a female member of staff who was particularly rude and really didn’t start off our stay on the best note. The concierge man was a great help and the bar staff on the rooftop were brilliant so it wasn’t all bad.
When I go back to New York, I’ll not be staying at this hotel- the rooms were just too dated and small for me but we did have a really good trip!

We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback, andrews551. While were glad you enjoyed our prime location and great rooftop bar, your experience is not up to the quality and standard we usually provide for our guests. Its unfortunate you had such challenges with our staff and that our accommodations failed to exceed your expectations. We hold ourselves to a much higher caliber of service so well be sure to discuss your concerns moving forward. We do hope you allow us another opportunity to share a more positive experience with you soon. Kucuk Bag Hotel Manager

This hotel is faultless for its location right in the middle of Korea town on 32nd Street just off 5th Avenue. This hotel is central for all of the places you would like to visit in NY and the subway station is literally 1 minutes walk. The food offering around the hotel are just to numerous to explain. The hotel staff are really nice and they will help you with anything you need. The rooms are standard fare but we'll kept and clean and there are no issues with bringing food into the hotel to eat in your room. We stayed on the 12th floor and opened our curtains to look right up at the empire state building (which is situated on 34th street directly behind this hotel) every morning. Free tee and coffee is available in the lower lobby from 7-11 every morning and you also have a coffee maker, iron and ironing board as well as a hair dryer in your room. Prices for this hotel are great compared to other hotels that are close by. I recommend this hotel it is great value for money.

The service is quite bad, since we arrived the attitude of the people at the desk was terrible. They greeted us with bad faces and literally only put the sheets of paper on the table for us to sign. Not a "welcome." One day we wanted to sleep more and the cleaning people were knocking on the door telling us that if we didn't open they weren't going to clean our room, even though we told them that we understood and wanted to stay there for a while longer, they continued pounding on the door. . There is no one to support your experience, if you ask about recommendations they make ugly faces and do not support you. They told us that there were several amenities such as a terrace and when we asked the hotel staff they told us that they didn't know what we were talking about.
One good thing is the location, the truth is it was the only reason we stayed there.

This hotel was recommended by colleagues for a short stay in NYC. It is located on 32nd Street, which unbeknownst to me is Korea Town. Being in the heart of Korea Town gives a plethora of food and drink options. The hotel is also convieniently located a short walk from Penn Station so getting into the city via AMTRAK was great.
I have two major complaints with the hotel which downgrades my rating and will likely eresult in me not choosing it again.
1) The rooms are very small and very basic. They're about 200 sq ft which puts them on par with a cruise ship cabin. Not much rom to move around beyond the bed. If all you are going to do is sleep in the room then I guess thats ok. But don't expect to host any guests.
2) My room was on the 3rd floor facing 32nd street. The windows are not sound insulated, and apparently this location is popular with young arty goers. People were arriving and leaving the nightclubs at all hours with exuberant singing and yelling. Also the street noise of machines, trucks, siirens, and garbage men came right through the windows through the night. At 6am, revelers were still partying outside at full throttle.
Don't expect to sleep well unless you are from NYC and are used to this

Average hotel, great location in Manhattan. Subway entrance is just around the corner. This is in the middle of Korea town so its very busy all the time. Despite sending a message via booking.com asking to reserve a room with a street view and away from the horrible ice making machine, we got a room on the other side so all we could see was a tall building and air conditioning units. To make matters worse our room was right in front of the ice making machine on the 4th floor. I'm not sure whether they ignored our request or if they did not have any other rooms available. Anyhow if you are a light sleeper the noice from the air conditioners and the ice maker will keep you awake so be sure to bring ear buds. After a long day of site seeing we came to the hotel to spend the night only so we fell asleep very quickly every day. Room was small but very clean and the bed was comfortable. There were no fridge or microwave but there was an iron and an ironing board which was very helpful. There was a small closet to keep your baggage and hang your clothes. Wifi was not bad and we could take free international calls. Staff were friendly specially the housekeeping crew. They do housekeeping every day. There are no restaurants in the hotel but once you step outside there are plenty of places to eat. Overall its a decent hotel but I felt that its a little bit overpriced.

Hello Haree82, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at The Hotel at Fifth Avenue. It's great to hear that you appreciated the hotel's prime location in Manhattan and the easy access it offers to the subway and numerous dining options in the area. However, it is disappointing to learn that certain aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations. We apologize for the inconvenience caused due to not receiving a room with the specific view that you requested and being situated near the ice machine. While the hotel team makes every effort to accommodate special requests, availability can sometimes be limited. Rest assured, your feedback has been taken into account, and the hotel will strive to improve guests' experiences in this regard. It's encouraging, though, to know that you found the room clean and the bed comfortable, and that our housekeeping staff's friendliness stood out during your stay. They take pride in their work and continually aim to provide excellent service to guests. We understand that a quiet environment is essential for a good night's sleep. We are sincerely sorry if noise from the air conditioners and ice maker caused any disturbance during your stay. To ensure future guest experiences are more restful, the hotel team will review these concerns and address them accordingly. Although there was no fridge or microwave in your room, we are glad to hear that you found the iron, ironing board, and closet area helpful. It's also great that you were able to take advantage of our complimentary WiFi and international calls. We appreciate your feedback on the pricing, as it enables us to evaluate and make improvements. The Hotel at Fifth Avenue strives to offer competitive rates while delivering a satisfactory guest experience, and your input helps us work towards that goal. Once again, thank you for your review, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back and make your next stay a more satisfactory one. Kucuk Bag Hotel Manager

We stayed in this hotel from October 30th for 4 nights; 5 people, 2 children and 3 adults. Upon our arrival, a not-so-cute cockroach greeted us in the elevator, which reminded me of the many negative reviews about cleanliness; actually our room was cleaned every day, towels changed daily. Therefore, overall, excellent cleaning. Possibility to get hot drinks in the morning from 7 to 11 and drinking water dispenser just under the lobby. Strategic location, close to the subway, 15 minutes walk from Time Square, 10 from Bryant Park. Located in the Korean neighborhood, relatively busy, but still quiet. Large room (quadruple), 2 Queen size beds and a sofa bed. Quite comfortable, apart from the sofa bed, which felt like lying directly on the springs; small but functional bathroom. Trained, courteous staff, but I don't know if I had the pleasure of meeting Kucuk Bag, the hotel manager (from what I understand), who however never responded to the questions posed via email. The helper who takes care of the bags was a bit insistent and unpleasant (on the last day you can leave the bags until you leave) who insisted that I use his transfer to the airport rather than Uber. Furthermore, practically at the same price. Recommended hotel for all people who go to NYC to tour the city and not to stay in the room all day. You will be asked for a deposit (security deposit) and the equivalent of the Italian tourist tax. The deposit regularly returned.

I visited with my daughter and arrived home today. The staff front of house were just rude and very unhelpful. Cleaning lady lovely. Room was not the best but we only used it to sleep. Carpets old and dirty, bed on myside was well worn and dipped on my side really over used. Decor was old and very dark. Lighting was very poor. Lights on the ceiling and wall lights were all on the right hand side of the room. That with the colour scheme mad if feel dark and dingy. There is a bar on the 14th floor but it is not run by the hotel. It has a great view of the Empire State Building only 2 blocks away but only used it once. I got a martini cocktail and a glass of wine cost $38. very expensive. But then again I paid $9 for a beer in another place. so watch out. Location was right in the heart of Korea town and 32nd street and 5th Ave where the hotel is located has too many Korean fast food resturants it is always packed. If I was to go again I would choose again I would get a hotel between 36th and 43rd street between 5th and 8th Ave. Overall wished I had chosen a different hotel and paid a bit more. You get what you pay for.

The location of the hotel is very convenient being situated around lots of tourist attractions including the Empire State Building, maddison square garden and a little walk to Times Square. Bars, restaurants and shopping centres very close by.
The room was fine for a few days stay with a comfy bed and clean linen. Bathroom was tiny and annoying to get ready in if you have lots of things but other than that it was also clean.
We were provided with a machine for coffee but no actual coffee or mugs. Tv in the room was great!
Rooftop bar provides a fantastic view of the Empire State Building but the cocktails and drinks in general are very very expensive but reflects the prices of outside bars too.
Be prepared for a $50 deposit and taxes for each night you stay there all to be paid on arrival.

Hold!
If I understand you correctly the hotel is for everyone. We saw adults and children there.
We paid before we arrived so I would think that you pay in full when you arrive and you pay the tax then too.
There is a tourist tax. I can't remember how much but per person per night. You should ask the hotel when you book. I think it is 15%.
There are more places to choose from in the New York City area.
