Paying homage to Evelyn Nesbit — the "it girl" of her era— Evelyn Hotel’s design showcases the Art Nouveau style of the early 1900s while featuring nods to the neighborhood’s music & art heritage that dates back over a century. Thoughtfully renovated rooms & suites include musically inspired accents and vintage furnishings. Three distinct dining concepts by local hospitality veterans, Ninepin, create a scene for every mood. Fuel your day with house-made pastries, creative sandwiches and craft coffee at Ninepin Café. Take it up a notch at The Tusk Bar, oyster & cocktail bar. For a full dining experience, enjoy a modern take on a French brasserie at BRASS. Set in the NoMad neighborhood, formerly historic Tin Pan Alley - the city's Jazz Age music epicenter – the hotel provides a central location for guests to immerse themselves in the neighborhood's vibrant culture and a proximity to iconic attractions like the Empire State Building, Flatiron and Madison Square Park.

As exiled Londoners, a winter city break has become a family tradition over the past few years and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience at The Evelyn. The rooms may be small but the space is well managed and you can entertain yourself in the bathroom admiring the border tiles with the words to "We'll Take Manhattan". The mattress was very comfortable, reminding us of our Purple mattress at home. The staff were welcoming and helpful - nothing was too much trouble.

The hotel is part of the Triumph Group, and an added bonus was the free city walks offered each morning from a different hotel within the Group. We did the Nomad and Flatiron District from our hotel, and the next day did the Architecture, NY Public Library and Grand Central Station from the Iroquois Hotel, a bus ride away. Both tours gave fascinating insights into the history and development of the area.

There was easy access to bus routes and the subway, so we had no problems getting around and managed to do almost everything on our list. It would have been nice if espresso (not just drip coffee) had been included in the complimentary breakfast, along with options other than pastry, but that's a relatively small niggle. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals in Brass - top quality and good value, even if the manager does support Man U!

Overall, we had a great experience and would certainly stay there again.

Where to start....this hotel and staff are both exemplary both in style and service and deserve to be ranked up there with the best.

I booked a surprise trip for my wife's birthday (she had never been to NY before!) and from the very outset the service and communication I received was absolutely top class. Tiffany's help was absolutely fundamental in making our trip a success and nothing was too much to ask. From room selection to organising transport from / to JFK everything was done seamlessly. So much so that when we arrived it didn't feel like we were visiting a hotel, more like coming to visit friends.

The staff / employees in a hotel can make or break a hotels reputation, The Evelyn have the most caring staff and I am sure they are the reason that people visit regularly. We spoke to a number of guests who were on their second/third visit such was the 'comfort level' and care supplied.

The hotel itself is perfectly located and is in a very welcome 'quiet area' yet close enough to attractions to walk comfortably. Empire State being just 6 short blocks away and 5th Avenue right on the doorstep.

The hotel bar (TUSK) is an oasis of quiet and relaxation after a long day and is great for that nightcap to revive the tired body (and feet!) Again, great staff and small bijou restaurant that serves excellent food.

Rooms are clean, well equipped and have great showers, plenty of room to move around while singing the songs that are on the wall tiles !

Bed is soooo comfy and plenty of room to hang clothing as well as having spacious draws. All utilities such as Irons, hair dryer etc are in situ and a safe is also in the room.

The Evelyn is ranked very highly on Tripadvisor and rightly so. The little extra things really matter and are the difference between being a guest or being a friend invited to stay, I know which one we preferred!

Would we stay again? Definitely, in fact we are in the process of organising a return trip in November!

I don't know if hotel owners read these reviews? I hope they do! To you I say that if you have great staff (and you do), look after them , treat them well as they are the face of your business.

To Tiffany, Andre and all of the staff at The Evelyn a huge 'Thank You' from myself and Retta for making our visit so enjoyable and memorable. We will surely be back to see you soon!

Lots of love, John & Retta xxx

Stayed for five nights during October 2024 in a room on the tenth floor. Two lifts (elevators) provided. As stated numerous times elsewhere, the room was very small but suited our needs. Lovely modern bathroom with toilet (actually no bath but superb shower). Towels, shower gel/ shampoo and hair conditioner were provided, as were those little bars of soap. Room and bathroom were very clean. Room had air-conditioning. Just as well, as on opening the windows overlooking a roofed quadrangle, the noise of various air-conditioning fans below was very intrusive, so we had to sleep with the windows closed. The wardrobe contained a well-stocked fridge, a safe, and an ironing board with iron. Unlike British hotels, there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. On the desk were a small number of expensive consumer items with price list. BEWARE: all of these items, plus those in the fridge are monitered with sensors. Touch them and you might end up paying for them. Television provided, with pay to view films (movies). A small number of free channels available but personally I found the content to be pretty dire.

Without exception, all of the staff were polite and friendly. However, be aware that on checking-in you are expected to offer-up your credit card in order that $200 can be held by the hotel to cover 'incidental expenses'. We didn't consume any of the consumables in our room, or have any room-service. Neither did we dine at the hotel, apart from breakfast. However, on checking-out $206 was deducted from my credit card. No itemised receipt was offerred so, to this day, I still do not know how the 'incidental expenses' amounted to $206!
And so we come to the 'free breakfast', as being advertised by some travel companies (lastminute.com in our case). Breakfast is not free. To be fair to the Evelyn Hotel, they do not make this claim. In fact their website's FAQ's specifically states that breakfast is included in the charges levied by the hotel. Breakfast consisted of one of the following: a croissant, a small bread roll containg cheese and an omelette, a yoghurt or muesli. A mug of tea or filter (drip) coffee was also included.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Evelyn Hotel. However, this was marred by being charged $206 for 'incidental expenses' and not knowing what they were.

Dear T K, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us. We truly appreciate your candor. While we do require an incidental fee to be taken upon check-in, it is only a hold and is released upon check-out. Upon further review, I believe you may be referring to our nightly facility fees which is referenced on our website as well as third party booking sites. Our facility fees include all amenities outside of the room & tax, which may include Wi-Fi, unlimited bottled water, daily newspapers at reception, 24-hour access to our Fitness Center, the StreetWise walking tours, Wine Hours for all of our Triumph hotel properties as well as the daily breakfast. I'm so delighted you had a wonderful stay with us overall, and we do hope to have the chance to welcome you back again soon! Best wishes, Tiffany Bagnuolo Guest Relations Manager

My wife and I spent a 7-night Thanksgiving holiday at The Evelyn and had a wonderful experience. The hotel is clean, well-located, offers great service, and is reasonably priced—ideal for couples and solo travelers.

The hotel’s location in the Flatiron District/Nomad is fantastic, with Madison Square Park, restaurants, subway stations, and Broadway all within walking distance. Our room, 311, was on the small side, typical for European-style hotels, with a limited street view of a building renovation. Tiffany (the star of the hotel), however, made our stay special with a welcome card and treats. While the room lacked a bathtub, room service, or ample closet space, it was well-equipped with a desk, rain shower, mini-bar, and safe. Housekeeping was excellent.

On our first night, traffic noise was an issue, but Tiffany quickly moved us to Room 1302, which was much quieter with a lovely view of the New York Life Insurance building’s golden dome.

The hotel’s common areas were charming, with a fragrant lobby and soothing jazz music. The bar was cozy, and we enjoyed complimentary coffee and croissants daily. On Monday evening, Tiffany hosted a wine reception, which was a nice touch. The front desk arranged a taxi for our departure, and Tiffany was there to wish us well.

Highly recommended!

Ladies and Gentlemen...if you have no idea where to stay in NYC and if you want to avoid the noise of Times Square while being close to all the attractions...well, The Evelyn is for you!
In fact, it's the perfect place for you!

The Art Deco-style Hotel is located in the vibrant NoMad district, just a 7-minute walk from the Empire State Building and very close to Flatiron and Madison Square Park, as well as numerous metro stops.

The Hotel has a very cool atmosphere and a “fresh” and classy environment.

Let's start from the rooms: No carpeting (luckily) and all tastefully furnished, all with minibar, large TV, snack corner, bathroom with spacious shower (and heated floor!) and sophisticated lighting.

A kettle is also available on request.
The safe, bathrobes and slippers are highly appreciated.

The size of the rooms is related to the type chosen, although the queen standards are slightly larger than the NYC average.
I recommend the King Deluxe, they will not disappoint you!

Topic breakfast: Breakfast is Grab To Go (you can also have it in the Indoor Bar “Ninepine”) and you have 2 choices between Pan Au Chicolat, Butter Croissant, Egg and Cheese Sandwich, Coffee, Yoghurt with Granola (exquisite) and other specialties.

Mention for the Cappuccino: Exquisite!

Inside The Evelyn we also find the Tusk Bar, a super cool place with very prepared Barmen where you can stop for a drink to accompany with exceptional olives and focaccia (try both!) and a great music selection.
The Tusk also has a small selection of food (the choice allows you to have dinner).

The Evelyn is also home to The Brass, currently one of the coolest places in Nomad and with oriental French dishes but always in a New York key.
Try it, it feels great!

But now we come to the real added value of The Evelyn: THE STAFF!
It is really hard to feel at home outside Italy, even more so 10,000 km away.

Well, at The Evelyn, thanks to the extreme courtesy and professionalism of John I literally felt at home!
John was very kind to solve every little need that arose daily and was always attentive to our every request (Drivers, Restaurants, information, etc).
A professional of incredible value.

Special mention also to Tiffany who thanks to her smile and her attention made our stay even more beautiful.

Ladies and gentlemen... in NYC The Evelyn is waiting for you!

D.

A very nice, stylish hotel with an NY soul. The room was very clean, bed comfortable and almost all staff very nice;) We got welcome macarons, you could always get water at the reception free of charge and the small to-go breakfast in the hotel bakery was super helpful to start the day relaxed. And again-the hotel really has a soul, very nicely designed, very New Yorkish, the aesthetics I could enjoy very much. A star suit for very noisy rooms - unfortunately whether hallway or the street - everything was very loud, the doors in the morning are so often and loudly slammed that you could not sleep. And water pressure was pretty low. If you have long and thick hair, it can be quite annoying.

We arrived late afternoon and the hotel looked awesome in the evening sun, the canopy and the lights makes this place stand out

we were greeted by a lovely receptionist, who made checking in a breeze, she sorted our request by us having a room with a view on a high floor. We had a view of the water tower and street. we were on the 11th floor and high enough to get a view and away from the street noise.

The room was a decent size, with a seat in the baywindow to watch the passers by. the room was very nicely decorated in an art deco style, the colours were dark and nicely thought out.

our bathroom was again a decent size with a walk in shower, with a rainfall head and a smaller head. this took me a little figuring out and only on the last day did I get a hot shower.

They serviced the room everyday and we asked them not to as we were only there for a few days and didn't need new towels or linens, they asked if we needed any amenities which was a nice touch.

The grab and go breakfast was ok, although if you wanted another coffee or a cappuccino they either don't or it was expensive to get a refill. The staff at breakfast weren't as friendly as the rest of the staff at the Evelyn, we ended up going to the Deli around the corner for some pastries and coffee as they did a better job.

We had a walking tour included in our rates, which we highly recommend. We had a drink in the bar at night and the guy was awesome, he was from Minnesota and recommended some cool places for us to visit.

the doormen were helpful aswell and the area NoMad was so cool, not to touristy but close enough to some of the attractions.

all in, we really enjoyed our time at the Evelyn.

The Good:
Overall, we enjoyed our 5-night stay at The Evelyn based on the perfect location to explore New York City. We also appreciated the entire staff, access to bottled water, ease of grab-and-go breakfast, and the room we received on day 2. My wife and I vented about our initial Deluxe King room to Amal during our first night, since it was half the size we booked, and she just listened and kept the wine flowing during the onsite Wednesday happy hour. The front desk was able to move us to a more suitable room on day 2, and the bellhop on our last day was so kind.

Buyer beware:
Though each room category is listed and described a certain way on The Evelyn website, the room sizes and layouts vary depending on the location within the building.

In our experience, what was described as a Deluxe King 250-square foot room with a bay window ended up being half that size, no bay window, minimal space for luggage, tiny closet, compact bathroom, and a desk that had mini-bar items on top (see photos).

The front desk acknowledged that we were placed in the smallest room with a king bed (ending in 13), and they offered to move us to a larger Deluxe King room the next day. However, we were repeatedly told that both rooms are considered Deluxe King class.

Something needs to be done to modify the advertising, descriptions, and pricing on The Evelyn website, such as Compact King versus Deluxe King room.

Hopefully, this review will encourage other travelers to call the hotel ahead of time and clarify their room size and layout before arriving at the hotel.

The Evelyn is a lovely Art Deco-style hotel in the NoMad neighborhood of Manhattan. My boyfriend and I stayed at The Evelyn for one night while we were in town. Check-in/out was quick (booked directly through their website) and the few staff members we interacted with were super friendly. The rooms have nice amenities such as a bathrobe and slippers, Frette linens/towels, a large screen TV and breakfast vouchers for the to-go café. We booked the “celebrate” package and had Prosecco and a croissant pastry waiting for us in the room. Our stay was too short and we will definitely be re-booking for our next trip to NYC!

I stayed here for my bachelorette party and it was an absolute dream. The staff was extremely accommodating throughout the entire stay; they gifted us a bottle of Prosecco on arrival, brought us extra mini fridges to the room, and helped answer all our questions. The rooms themselves were gorgeous. I stayed in the King Suite and wish I could live there, the decor was so sophisticated yet girlie, perfect for the bach! The waterfall showers were also incredible after long days of exploring/drinking and the beds were so comfy. We loved the grab&go breakfast each day and the drinks and oysters at Tusk Bar were top notch! All of this for the extremely reasonable price point and in the perfect location for subways/restaurants. I could not recommend enough!

The hotel's restaurant closed during the pandemic, and as of December 2022 is still closed. Guest breakfast is one food item from a selection of egg sandwich, oatmeal, muffin, yogurt or granola, and then one beverage from a selection of coffee, water, orange juice, some sodas. Forget if they have tea, sometimes they have had hot chocolate. This is grab and go breakfast and they close around 11am. The bar opens at 5pm and closes around 10pm. There is no other food or drink places in the hotel. Dominique Ansel pastry shop is two door down and Whole Foods is a block away.
