I specifically booked a room with a jacuzzi - there was not jacuzzi though. I was also NOT told that its under construction and that only 1 elevator was working. Would be nice to have some items in the mini bar, and to have a coffee maker in the room - for $350/night thats not a lot to ask

First impression very disappointing....lobby looks very dark and old (not in a good way). I arrived at 11.30 am to be informed that they got overbooked yesterday and I'd have to wait till 3pm to be able to check in! Good thing I only had a light backpack since traveling for one night. So I went and got breakfast at... More

Enjoyed my time at the hotel, unfortunately my room looked nothing like what had been advertised, so I came in feeling a little misled. I did, all in all, enjoy my stay there and the staff is very friendly and helpful.

This hotel is about 4 blocks from the Empire State Building and lots of modes of transportation. We took the hop on hop off and it stopped right there. The room was very nicely done, but very, very small. Our view was the mechanical equipment with trash all over it. The construction wasn't that much of a problem except that... More

The hotel is insanely gorgeous, the concierge staff is welcoming, hospitable, and kind. The rooms are absolutely adorable. Loved every second of my stay here. Great location in midtown makes it easy to access all the spots!

I had no idea this hotel was under construction. Rooms are fine and it is in a great location; however, it is extremely noisy at night. I called the front desk and they denied work was being done. This is not true and I do not appreciate the dishonesty from the front desk!

The location was excellent I can walk to all places and restaurants I needed. My Recommendation is to have an extra blanket because in my case I felt cold even I up my air conditioner. The comforter was too thin.

From a broken elevator to stairs that led through a construction zone. Shabby, unprofessional paint on the walls. No coffee in rooms. The best was the entire top and side of the reception desk is covered with duct tape to repair the tattered leather bumper.

Staff was rude, Elevators did not work so I had to take stairs or wait forever. Water was cold in the evening. Way over priced for what they offer! No thrills and overpriced for what they offer. 1-2 star level hotel at best.

Despite renovation work and initial appearance upon arrival, The Evelyn proved to be a great choice to stay. I particularly liked the free all day lobby coffee/tea and pastries and iced water facilities. The reception staff were also very friendly and helpful. The room was exceptionally clean and I was so pleased to see additional hand shower to reach those places... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Evelyn formerly The Gershwin Hotel is now offering newly residential inspired rooms with references to an Art Nouveau Style. Our NoMad hotel is inspired by the musical and art heritage of the neighborhood, which was the epicenter of the popular music industry in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The music theme is reflected throughout the rooms, corridors and bathrooms. The NoMad District (now also known as "NoMad" - North of Madison Square Park) is now one of Manhattan's most popular neighborhoods, characterized by its beautiful and historic architecture, exceptional bars and restaurants tucked away on quiet side streets, and many other attractions. Centered around Madison Square Park, the NoMad District is within walking distance of Midtown, Union Square, Greenwich Village, and NYU. ... more   less
