Before I even stepped off the cab, Mohammed with the Marcel staff had unloaded my luggage with a smile. That pretty much set the tone for the rest of my stay. The lobby of the Marcel is beautifully decorated, the rooms are smallish but not uncomfortably so but also have a great flair about them. I slept very well on the mattress provided and my room was very clean and quiet; almost no noise from adjoining rooms or from hotel staff. The hotel is well-located and quietly away from the bustling parts of the city but a short cab or train ride away from destination spots. It was fun to walk around this part of the city and I found some really great eateries and bars close by! If you get tired of the confines of your room, there is a guest lounge on the top floor with a great patio and a terrific city view. Manager Mila was friendly, professional and very responsive to any special needs or requests I had. All in all I LOVED my stay at the Marcel and plan to book my next stay here as well. Highly recommended!!

The employees at this hotel are very helpful. They show they care. Everyone from the handsome doorman, Mohamed, to the girls at the front desk, like Felicia, make sure you have everything you need. Even the maintenance man caring for the community room on the tenth floor made sure I had butter for my bread and a bowl for my cereal...(They do not provide breakfast so you must bring your own.)
In the community room, they serve nicely chilled mint water, which tastes good. But I wish the building was chillier. My room on the tenth floor was hot, even while wearing only underwear and taking showers and leaving windows wide open in the middle of winter. The lobby, however, was quite chilly. Ironically, the fireplace you see in the photo here in their lobby was not working the entire week or so I was there. The fireplace would have added warmth, ambiance and beauty to the chilly lobby, and perhaps would have enabled the maintenance staff to turn the heat down in the rest of the building to save energy and so the upper floors would not be as hot.

Spent two nights here in February. Great decor- great location.

First night - hardly slept... bed was SO hard. Room was also an accessible room so no tub - bathroom floor for drenched when using shower... I am not one to complain but I needed some sleep so I popped down to reception to see if there might be a room with a softer bed. They said they would consult with housekeeping ..

. I went to my all day meeting and when I returned they had indeed changed my room. The bed was heavenly, the bathroom small but dry ... a perfect 10!

I HIGHLY recommend the Marcel and Sidney on the front desk aNd manager Milta were outstanding! Thank you!!

I stay at The Marcel at Gramercy every 8 weeks and the staff never disappoints to accommodate all my needs and make me feel at home - like family. I always have a terrific stay. The rooms are large and the bed is comfortable and the neighborhood is quiet so I always get a good nights sleep. The location is unbeatable with many subway lines within walking distance and so many casual shops nearby. They provide me with Fiji water daily and I know there are snacks available daily in the business lounge. I'm forever loyal.

Great area to stay in, right next to 5th Avenue and the flat iron building. Upon leaving the hotel you are immediately engrossed in New York, you can walk for hours and not realise. Right next to citi-bikes, which is $3 for 30 minutes and in 30 mins you can get anywhere you need to.

The hotel itself has lovely staff, Milta and Caroline at reception and Mohamed at the door were all really generous and positive! We were upgraded to a king size room and given a small present for our anniversary which shows the hotel really cares about its guests.

The amenities are everything you need and the bed was the most comfortable I had ever been in!! We were floor 3 with a window overlooking the road and noise outside did not disturb us at all.

Attached are photos from the rooftop terrace where they serve refreshments everyday between 4-6. I believe you can make coffee and tea whenever.

100% would recommend. We booked through booking.com and no hidden fees or taxes, everything up front. We would definitely stay here again if we come back to New York!

I chose the Marcel at Gramercy because of its location and a wonderful February room rate. I was concerned that because it was so affordable, the hotel might be subpar--but I was pleasantly surprised to find clean, comfortable, updated accommodations. Milta at reception upgraded my room (from a superior queen room to one with a king bed), and I had a glimpse of the Empire State Building from my window. The room was spotless, the bed was extremely comfortable, and the lounge on the 10th floor was useful for coffee and afternoon snacks. I will definitely stay at the Marcel again!

Four of us were due to stay here for 3 nights as part of a longer stay visiting family in Long Island. We were due to stay from 3rd April 2020 but could not go due to the USA closing their borders as well as no flights leaving the UK. I'm sure I don't need to tell you that this was down to the global pandemic. We have repeatedly asked for a refund since then and all we are told over and over again is that there is "no decision from upper management regarding refunds". We have not been to the hotel, we haven't used any facilities or received any kind of service and yet the hotel are keeping our money. EVERY other airline, travel company, accommodation provider and entertainment company that I happen to have booked with have refunded us for flights, accommodation and theatre tickets in this unprecedented situation and yet The Marcel at Gramercy have not. Given that the pandemic is far from over I would seriously consider whether booking this hotel in uncertain times would be a sensible thing to do. They clearly have no morals or concern for good customer service and I would also therefore consider whether they do put the customer first. Very disappointing to be dealing with such a difficult company after all others have been so simple and accommodating.

Disgraceful behaviour from this hotel.

Requested a cancellation for a 10 night stay from 1 May based on travel restrictions, borders closed and no flights out of Australia to allow a stay.

They are still charging us 90% of the room cost.

Buyer beware, this hotel doesn’t care much for its customers!

My girlfriend and I stayed here for four nights. It was in a good location, just a five minute walk from the subway station. Although the room was on the small side (this is common in NYC) it was great value for money and a perfect base to explore the city. Tea and coffee is available free of charge throughout the day and the hotel even lay on snacks in the lounge for a couple of hours in the early evening. Abdullah was a great help and I will definitely be back next time I'm in town.

This trip to NY ranks as one of the nicest places that I have stayed given my budget.

Start from the outside and go in: this neighborhood is one I had not explored so I chose this location. Turned out to be great and not the touristy hubbub of midtown.

My room was clean and well appointed. The bed—soooo comfortable. I had an issue with my sink and shower and brought it to the managers attention when I went out GM for the day, came back and they had fixed the issue! I didn’t make a fuss, just wanted my bathroom to function better.

The lounge is on the 10th floor. I don’t quite get that when we checked in, turned out to be brilliant. We went out for bagels one morning, then had toasted bagel and cream cheese and fruit...which otherwise would have been a big expense. Guests were politely friendly and chatty if you wanted to be. Tables and chairs for breakfast, sofas and oversized chairs to hang out and chat! Well thought out. Better than, smarter than having a lounge by the front door, for sure.

One morning I went to the sunflower café around the corner. It was close enough to get dressed quickly, go there, then come back and get myself sorted for the day.

Staff were always nice and polite and engaged. I am happy I chose Marcel, I will return later this year.

No pics to share, but the room was more spacious than I expected. Could do my morning yoga.

It is a 20 minute walk northwest from The Marcel. You can also take the R and W subway trains, but that also takes 20 minutes. It will be actual less walking though if you have mobility problems.
