The Coffee and tea machine broke down, there was replacement offered. Supposed to have fruits, cake and muffins, there was none. Staff simply didn’t know and couldn’t be bothered offering alternatives, and simply ignore it. Room cleaned on 3rd day.
Our stay at the moderne greatly exceeded our expectations. The room was very clean and met all of our needs. The beds were very comfortable and the room was spacious (for New York standards). The staff went above and beyond to help us throughout our stay. For example, the lobby staff helped us with our stroller during every time we had to enter or exit the hotel. They even stored the stroller in the basement of the hotel so we didn't have to keep it in our room. The lobby staff helped us check-in and out - even helped us unload our car. We were grateful for how much work they put into making us feel at home. The hotel is centrally located to Broadway, Times Square, Central Park and Rockefeller Centre. We only took the subway on days where we explored lower Manhattan. Otherwise, we were able to walk EVERYWHERE. There are wonderful restaurants on the same block as the hotel - including a diner for breakfast, as well as international cuisine (Italian, Mexican, pub fare, Indian, Japanese, Thai) within STEPS of the hotel. There is also a small supermarket two steps from the hotel to pick up fruit, milk, coffee etc. We had everything we needed right there and wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else when we come back!…
This hotel stay was a complete nightmare. Not only did we feel like we were ima dark dungeon with no natural light, but also heard rats squealing in the walls all night. No contact from GM to make amends.
The Moderne is excellently located within walking distance from all sight seeing activities. The staff are super accommodating, friendly and welcoming. The rooms are small and have zero daylight coming in, so that can feel a bit cave-like after enough time in the room. My one complaint is that this hotel has not done any upgrades in 10+ years. Furniture is worn and the carpets are a bit grungy. Although its clean and maintained, the worn out headboards, dated entry furniture and peeling wall paper could be upgraded. Overall this is a wonderful hotel, at a great NY price.
Our first trip to New York City and Melissa (front desk) and Melvin (door man) were incredibly helpful, pleasant and kind. I did not learn the names of the other staff members we met but they were SO friendly and helpful. The hotel is within walking distance of many attractions...Times Square, Broadway, Central Park and lots of restaurants. Great place!
We stayed here for the 4th of July weekend and loved it. Melissa at the front desk was wonderful and so kind and helpful. Sh went out of her way to help us and make our trip better. Great area of town with a quick walk to Times Square. Highly recommend!
The door and desk staff were simply amazing. We always felt welcomed and they were always eager to help out. Less than 10 minute walk to Times Square. Less than 10 minute walk to Central Park. Five minute walk to the subway. $.99 pizza even though we didn’t eat there, we wanted to and they were always busy. Dunkin’ Donuts around the corner. How I Met your mother bar across the street. The rooms are a little small compared to a normal North American hotel room. But the bed was super comfortable. For the price this hotel cannot be beat.
When I arrived at the reception I almost turn around and go away, but it was late in the evening and I probably would not find another place to sleep. The hotel is not good at all, the reception is old-style and dirty, the rooms are not updated and also dirty. For me is mandatory for a place to be at least CLEAN, and it's not the case here, it's really bad. The name "moderne" and the pictures show something moderne, but the reality is completely different, basically, this hotel should be classified at 1 or 2 stars no more than that, you can find better places for less money.
Had a great experience at Moderne Hotel. The location is very convenient to Central Park, Broadway, Times Square and many other destinations. The service from Jerry, Dev, and Melissa were exceptional. Jerry was always ready to help and provide information and help with where to go and how to get there. The room was bright and clean with modern furnishings. We really enjoyed the lounge especially where we met friends and had take out dinners. We would definitely stay here again! The only thing that was missing is a microwave in the lounge and coffee/tea.
This hotel did not disappoint. It is located in a nice neighborhood between Central Park and Time Square. It is a 3 minute walk to the subway station and a half-block from Broadway (easy walk to Times Square). The front desk staff and bellmen were all very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and well appointed. The window looked out on a brick wall, but that's New York. The bathroom was nicely update with a rain-head shower, but had no space to put anything other than under the sink. Jerry, one of the bellmen was outstanding. He helped us with directions and things to do. On the last day, one of the bellmen called a car for us and we ended up with a private car to Newark that cost us $140. We did feel taken advantage of with that ride. Be sure to specify that you want a Yellow Cab; or use Uber or Lyft.…
