I had always wanted to stay at the New York 42nd Street Algonquin Hotel but was never willing to pay the price. With the advent of AirBNB all hotels find that they need to be competitive and even the Grand Old Dames, the cornerstones of a bygone era, need to compete and compete The Algonquin Hotel has. What a pleasure... More

This was truly my first experience with a true New York City hotel (small cramped, role out of bed into the bathroom) and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The rich history and lobby scene that was alive, made my experience uber-positive. I now look to stay at the Algonquin every time in in NYC.

The hotel is in a great location right next to 6th Avenue, a short walk from Grand Central, etc. Everyone at the hotel is extremely pleasant, helpful, and clearly takes pride in the hotel. The hotel is sandwiched between buildings so getting a room with view might be tough. Although the bathroom was really small, there was enough space for... More

The Algonquin Times Square describes itself as the oldest continuously operating hotel in NYC and the birthplace of The New Yorker magazine. My wife and I stayed there for four nights in June 2016 and were very happy being there. The room was a bit small, but that was as expected, from reading past reviews. It was very comfortable for... I come to NYC a lot and stay at the same hotel all the time. Tried something different this time. The hotel has that great old charm. The rooms are pretty small compared to what unusually stay in when in NYC. Staff is super friendly. Amenities are nice as well.

Our third stay at this Marriott property. Great restoration of famous hotel. Near the theater district, Bryant Park and a few good eating spots. Matilda the cat is a lazy greeter along with the very helpful doormen and desk staff. Rooms are small and vet comfortable. This time we found the lounge staff slow or absent. When they did show... My daughter and I stayed overnight at the Algonquin Hotel to celebrate the beginning of summer. We enjoyed the New Yorker Magazine charm and literary history of this four stsr hotel. The rooms were on the small side, but well appointed and very comfortable. The hospitality offered at check in and departure was warm and professional. It was a cozy... More

Fashionable and classic hotel close toTimes Square. Fantastic lobby. The room was smallish as most NY hotel rooms, but nice. Recommended for couples on a city break. Expensive breakfast but nice and personal service.

A favorite place to stay in midtown...just a few blocks from GCT and a mile from Penn Station. Great history, a classic feel, and a cat to greet you. Rooms were renovated just a couple of years ago and are very comfortable. Staff is so pleasant and helpful....plus, delicious coffee at Gregory's across the street!

We visited the bar on Sunay night for a drink. The place was practically deserted. One group in the bar and a couple of tables dining. Sat down and a staff member quickly laid out napkins/coasters and said a waiter would be with us shortly. Quite a stream of waiters passed by, coming and going, but none gave us a... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
