Another fabulous stay! This time for our 29th anniversary celebration and the Algonquin didn’t disappoint. Nice room, excellent service, and delightful recognition from the hotel management and staff. Looking forward to our next visit!
The hotel is just fine - small rooms, tiny showers, old heating and cooling systems, slow elevators. It has a certain charm to it but it is expensive for what you get even in New York. Not a fan of the $30 a night resort fee which they said they credit back against food and beverage. We had breakfast one morning for $80 and they only credited one of the $30 nightly fees against the total as you cannot combine two nights of these fees against one meal. Nickel and diming Marriott Rewards members is not very smart given you can stay at a ton of places in this area for similar or less…..
What a brilliant hotel. I've always liked this property, but now? I love it!! The renovations are perfect and the entire staff couldn't possibly have been more pleasant and accommodating. My room was comfortable and lovely; the food was delicious and I am very sure I'll be back. Highly recommend.
The Algonquin Hotel is located just a block from the madness of Times Square and a hop-skip-and -jump from the acclaimed 5th Avenue shopping outputs. It is strikingly close to the best Broadway Theatres and the endless NYC key attractions. I have been visiting NYC all my life, but this my 1st visit to this hotel that is storied by 1920's writers and playwrights who would flock to the Algonquin as a popular rendezvous spot. My room was mediocre, seemed dull and a tad tired. The entrance had a quote from a luminaire that stayed here. The decor was classic with some neat architectural features like recessed windows. Above the headboard was a large black and white print of a city scape. The curtain mechanism had a heart attack and the climate control vent was ugly and more appropriate in a motel 6. The desk was appreciated befitting a hotel famous for writers. Bathroom was tight....just too tight. The hotel's main restaurant is called the Round Table as a nod to the circle of writers who used to meet here. On hand is American fare ranging from New York Strip to Crab Cakes and more. Drink-wise there's the properties famous Blue Bar serving up inventive cocktails The hotel is light on amenities, with no spa and a miniscule gym that is scantily equipped. This hotel fell short of my expectations: considering the historical value the sense of 'wow factor' was just not there. So if you desire a hotel with a great Times Square location and a rich history of famous patrons........then try the ..........Algonquin Hotel....Steeped in History.…
Second time here, first was awhile ago, but office just moved next door so trying out hotels as have to be here weekly. I am titanium and don’t expect a ton (not worried about suite upgrade etc), but like at least some acknowledgment on points for breakfast and welcome gift points etc…neither offered here, I had to ask gentlemen if he had my number and would get those points? He was nice, but having to ask and then get a low level floor looking at an alley way is disappointing.
Lovely hotel, and small (big for NYC) but well furnished rooms. Good cocktails at the bar, and I got to meet Hamlet. Jennie at the front desk was fabulous and helped us with all we needed - she is a great ambassador for the Alqonquin!
I'm picky when it comes to hotels. Like really picky. Generic business hotels with bland walls and floors, basic room designs.. they just don't cut it for me. What does, cut it for me, are classic hotels full of art and interest decor and design. Algonquin Hotel is all of that for me. The rooms are small, but very beautiful and intricate. Each door has a piece of art and a quote which really made me feel something. There is even an old fashioned mail chute which I adored. The lobby is beautiful, it feels like you've stepped back in time. Now this hotel, it's not like many others scattered around the city. I live in the city, and I like to visit these hotels. This one is truly one of my favorites. It is so rich in history, which is happily explained by the staff there. And now, for the true star of the show, Hamlet. The hotel cat. This cat is the true icon of the hotel. I love him. Like I really love him. I spent so much of my time petting him and spending time with him, and he really made me happy. Also, shoutout to the staff for being so kind to me when I was crying when I was saying bye to mom. I really really recommend this hotel. An incredible experience that you have to experience. …
I stayed in the "Deluxe" Queen. I was very pleased to be permitted to get my room earlier than the 4pm check in time. I was not so please to be told I would be taxed an additional thirty dollars a day during my stay. Sorry to say but this is NOT a luxury hotel anymore. It is more a boutique hotel with very little in the way of the the perks and finer touches offered by a luxury hotel. The window blind sags to the left, the bathroom door sticks and the view out the window (of the back) is depressing. It is very comfortable. The bed couldn't have offered a better night's sleep and the hallway was quiet. The staff are hard working and very pleasant but sparce after 8pm. There is no longer any room service. The restaurants are gone. The Rose Room and Oak Room are gone. The lobby area is transformed into an open bar with tables in the back. There is a coffee maker that is sometimes out of coffee beans .. so you get hot water instead of coffee. Much of the time, there is a door man but not in the majestic uniform as in days of yore. The gym is very small and boasts five treadmills, one bench, a dozen or so dumbbells and couple upper body machines - older models - and two flat screen televisions. Want breakfast? There is a restaurant next door - the Red Flame, which offers fast and freindly service at reasonable prices but the coffee isn't the best. And they get busy fast. The best croissants are down the street in a shop at Grand Central Station. Good luck.…
Marcus and Jason were some of the most kind and helpful team members. They we’re extremely helpful and informative right off the bat and provided immense insight throughout our stay. I would most definitely recommend to stay here :)
Had the pleasure of staying at The Algonquin for a weekend trip with another couple. I was a past guest in 2017 and recommended we stayed there based upon how wonderful it was back then. It did not disappoint! (Which was a relief since I had been the one to recommend it!) We were greeted upon arrival at the door by Peter and it was like seeing an old friend as I recalled how friendly he was and his excellent customer service skills from my previous visit. Our room was as expected and very clean. The hotel is located in a great location, close to many theatres and Times Square, making it easy to walk in that direction or opposite to the shops on 5th Ave. It was also great to see they continue the tradition with the resident cat, Hamlet. The hotel is rich in history, detail and a staff that is warm, friendly and welcoming as well as proud of this gem! When we departed, I said “see you next time!”, as our next trip to NYC will undoubtedly include a stay at The Algonquin! Bravo! …
