A true hidden gem in NYC! A flair of old time New York City with a contemporary flare. Great location to all the Broadway shows. Staff were extremely warm and welcoming, especially Hamlet! Our room was beautiful. We enjoyed reading all the history of the hotel displayed in our room. The lobby is lovely to sit and relax while enjoying the scenery. Thank you to all the staff for going above and beyond to make our stay wonderful. We cannot wait to return soon!! For those parking, there’s a parking lot across the street for ease.
The perfect location? CHECK (not in the crazy busy part of Times Square but easy walking distance to TS and 5th Ave) Lux and fabulous decor? CHECK (its got that sophisticated, NYC vibe) Special touches? CHECK (great coffee machine available 24/7, we were given cookies upon check-in and, the best part, we got to see the famous hotel cat, Hamlet- by far my daughter's favorite part of this hotel) We are already planning a return trip and I'm not even looking at other hotels.
The character of the hotel appears to be changing with Marriott renovations. There was no restaurant or bar.... Fortunately, there are other choices nearby -- late-night places for a drink or early-morning breakfasts. One of our favorites is Un Deux Trois in the next block for dinner, breakfast, drinks late at night.
This was our go-to hotel in Manhattan when we would take the kids to NYC, back in the day. This was our first visit since it became a Marriott property. We stayed in a standard King. This a historic hotel, so the rooms and especially the bathrooms are small, but at least now they're cleaned up and modernized. Hint: The ice machine is on the second floor, in a small lounge area. There is bottled water in the fridge in the adjacent gym. This area also has two large, clean private bathrooms, if you want to escape from your cramped room space and have some privacy. Unfortunately, the bar and food services were closed during our visit. The coffee from the coffee machine in the hotel lobby was pretty awful. Better to go next door to the Red Flame. The ambiance of the lobby has changed. I sort of preferred to old-fashioned living room feel of the original, with its many private spaces. Now the seating has that open feel that appeals to the youngsters. The updated version is comfortable and as long as they don't start playing loud music when the bar opens, it should be OK. This location is a short walk from the Times Square craziness. It was an easy walk to Birdland, and to the Off Broadway New World Stages. The Algonquin cat is still in residence, but has had to be put on a diet, poor kitty.…
I have been coming to the Algonquin for close to 30 years. it is a landmark hotel that always makes me feel good whenever I stay. The staff is among the nicest, and what amazes me that no matter how long it has been since I have been there, I am always greeted like a returning friend. Some even know my name. Because of the pandemic it has been a few years since I visited, but when I returned this year, each of my checkins have gone quickly and efficiently. I have stayed in three different rooms since my return and liked each one of them. The beds were comfortable, the closets just the right size. The desks are good and so are the chairs. On my last visit I stayed with a room that faced 44th Street, and while I did hear traffic at times, one has to expect this being right off Times Square. But that reveals one of the other things I love about the hotel, it is perfectly located. Not only are you close to the theater district, and a few museums, you are also close to the subway and bus routes so you can get anywhere in town pretty easily. I also love to invite people to meet me in the lobby of the hotel, one of the great experiences in NYC. The lobby has a great atmosphere, and is very comfortable. I have met some really wonderful people there who were also staying at the hotel, as the lobby seems to both give you privacy when you need it but can also be very social. Friends and business associates enjoy it as well. They have excellent free wifi, and now they have moved the Blue Bar into the renovated lobby, it saves us all a few steps and will make it all the more convivial. And there is delightful Hirschfeld artwork throughout the lobby and the renovated and expanded Oak Room. I love history and was initially concerned about the renovations, but it is better than ever. The expanded Oak Room is what the hotel was missing, as it now has a place one could have an event, dinner, wedding, or conference. I love the hotel's history and hope they continue to link to that history. With the renovation it is nice that that pay homage to the past, but they are clearly not beholden to it. I enjoy seeing the hotel's cat, Hamlet. The warm feeling in the lobby, the nice staff and rooms, makes for a very comfortable almost "homey" experience. it is a real home away form home for me, and judging by the people I have met in the lobby, they feel the same.…
We had such a fantastic experience at the Algonquin! The check-in process was extremely efficient, and our suite was lovely with a great view. They have absolutely mastered the balance between vintage charm and modern comfort. Although our visit was quick, it was very enjoyable and I can't wait to come back!
We have been there at the end of March, for our Anniversary. Among about 20 picture there are 7 images of the blue bar and the dining room, also described in the text as the main attraction. Indeed, the blue bar is under renovation since two years, The Magee said it is written in a banner… therefore you do not have breakfast and even a room service is missing (even for a bottle of water) , the laundry is not functioning and the housekeeping was not done both in the rooms (1017 and 1015) I had occupied with my family on the 27th, Sunday. The heating is unbelievably noisy (it seems to sleep close to a train station). Last, but not least, I just had the opportunity of reading the most recent traveller reviews on tripadvisor, many of them refer to the unfriendly staff, which was my experience too. In my particular situation I would have appreciated some attention during my stay, nothing at all.…
Although a little sad had been revamped since my father's stay the hotel still has New York magic. Its location, history , comfort and lovely staff made my visit with with 18 year old daughter very memorable. Thank you x
Worst experience in a New York hotel ever Where to start 1. Checked in but no contactless facilities, refused to send me a pre authorisation so I could pay online and showed them My online card they would not accept 2. Waited 5 hours for my colleague to come to be allowed to enter room 3. Terrible smell on the floor we stayed at and in the room 4. Told that it was some ones food and that was end of that 5. Writ to manager, was told would receive response in 5 days, 2 months later no response
Prior to my arrival to the Algonquin Hotel in NYC, I'd read several reviews on Trip Advisor regarding the recent renovations of the historic property, and I felt compelled to share my own review: I'm a fan! I'd never been to the hotel, so in fairness I didn't know what it looked like before. That said, I really geeked out and did a deep dive into the hotel's history for arriving, so my expectations were incredibly high for what I hoped to experience. Honestly-- I loved the modern approach, and I thought they did an awesome job recapturing the magic from 100 years ago. The artifacts and historical photos were all there, and I felt as though I was in the presence of greatness among them. It was exciting to see the new incarnation of the Round Table, taking center stage in the restaurant, and did not disappoint! The bar/restaurant had not yet re-opened when I was there, which didn't pose a problem. In fact, I loved having the opportunity to take photos while the space was not yet in use, and there was literally a diner 15 feet from the front door that was open from 6am to 11pm that had everything I needed. That said, I look forward to coming back when the restaurant opens so I can experience it again in it's glory. My room was perfect. I had a King size room on the 7th floor, and was super comfortable. The location of the hotel couldn't have been better. I don't know New York very well, but felt like I was in the middle of everything, just a few blocks away from Times Square and Rockefeller Center. The hotel staff were exceptional, and I was really impressed. Here are a few photos I took of the hotel. I think it's the cat's pajamas, and thought I'd let you know.…
