I've enjoyed previous stays at the Surrey so I prepaid $3,678.03 for a reservation for June 11th on January 12th. Nancy Padolina (Director of Reservations & Distribution) notified me on June 2th that they had suspended operations due to COVID-19. I immediately requested a refund. She eventually responded on the date of my reservation that she would "follow up on this request with our Financial Team." After numerous phone calls I have received no response other than an email on the date of my reservation suggesting that their advance purchase policy meant that I had lost all of my money. This is despicable, especially for an establishment that continues to advertise flexible cancellations due to the virus. Be VERY careful!
I had the pleasure of staying at The Surrey in the early part of March to celebrate my birthday. This was my first time at the hotel and definitely will not be my last. From the very beginning, I was connected with Leilani Santiago, the guest relations manager. Saying she was excellent is an understatement. She ensured every need was met from dining and transportation needs to having some nice very (and thoughtful) birthday surprises placed in my room. Upon check in and check out, it was a very seamless and enjoyable stay. So thanks to Leilani and the entire staff for your thoughtful and very professional service. Best ... Troy
The location is perfecto! One of the safest places in the Upper East size. It is very convenient for shopping, and the famous Central Park is relatively close! Classic architecture with the old world charm. The breakfast is good as the title suggests. The room is really beautiful and spacious, elegant and clean, the bed is very comfortable, too much, is a city view room, perfect scenery. The doorman at is particularly welcoming! The bedroom area is average sized, but the bathroom is massive! The hotel lobby is connected to a restaurant that looks very popular, but we have not tried it because there are many supermarket restaurants around! Ask the front desk with a room of your preference. The Taiwanese restaurant nearby which is recommended too!
A charming, art deco style traditional beautiful hotel. Beautiful rooms, mine had widows to three directions. Very good service. Style! The only criticism could be that the bar was, at least on Saturday night, both very noisy and very dark, not comfortable for an old-fashioned person. And of course, the location is perfect. Most certainly, I want to be back! One more piece of information: A very nice restaurant, particularly for breakfast but also other meals just round the corner on Madison, Three Guys.
What an amazing stay at the Surrey the past few weeks. From the moment I checked in with my dog, we were warmly greeted and the warmth continued throughout the stay. The entire team was attentive and accommodating. Thank you to Vicki, Jessica, Lilly and the rest of the front desk staff. Georgina and I were sorry to have to leave and can’t wait to stay with you all again soon!
Comfortable but small room that needed some TLC. Furniture scratched and chipped and chair upholstery worn. Hallway dark and carpet worn with black plastic tape covering seams. 3am garbage trucks ground away below us for an hour preventing any sleep. For the price and reputation, we expected more. Staff was excellent and saved the day!
I stayed in this Hotel for 2 nights for business. Rooms are tired and need a refresh. Desk was showing wear and chipped and bath had pealing paint and mold in the shower. Beds are comfortable and HVAC worked fine and not overly loud. What I was most disappointed in was the mini bar charge I received after checking out. I had noticed someone discreetly opened one of the jars. When checking out I told the front desk and they assured me I wouldn’t be charged. I called 3 times to ask for it to be reversed with no credit received. This is certainly not the customer service I would expect from a hotel of this level. I will never stay here again. Go across the street and stay at the Carlyle or the Mark.
There are four things that matter to me with a Hotel: Cleanliness, Bed Comfort, shower experience, and room space and ambiance. We stayed at the Surrey at the end of February and it was fantastic. I would give the Surrey 10 out of 10 on these four areas. A bonus for the Surrey is that it is walking distance to the Neue Gallery, The Frick, The Met and Central Park. One final note the Neue has the famous "Woman in Gold" painting by Gustav Klimt.
The surrey never disappoints... the staff is always so warm & welcoming but also professional & efficient. The rooms are well appointed & beds/linens amazingly comfortable. My husband believes it is the best shower ANYWHERE
My wife and I brought our twelve year old to New York to celebrate her birthday. The Surrey Staff member Leilani made it truly a magical weekend for her. When we arrived to the room she was greeted by a toy swan and helium balloons along with a travel journal. She was thrilled and was delighted later with a special dessert delivered to the suite. All the staff was wonderful especially Pablo the doorman. Also, the location of the hotel is perfect, steps to Central Park and walking distance to museums and shopping.we will definitely return to this special hotel.
