...Soon as we got off the elevator on the 8th floor, we quickly realized that was not the case for the rooms. We were in room 818 I believe and the thermostat was missing, the room smelled like weed, and it was so dirty... This room definitely had been overlooked for a cleaning... The staff was very understanding and switched us rooms to the 11th floor... This room was much better but it still was not as the pictures shown on the websites and google... We had to turn our thermostat off just to get the room to cool down at night... It said 65 but it was around 75 in the room... We could smell someone smoking cigarettes on our floor even though it is a non smoking...

...Our first room stunk of weed, one light plugged into a failing electric point, no fire alarm, peeling wallpaper, dust dirty curtains and nets, dusty smelly hairdryer, poor connection to lights which sparked, heavy ceiling plaster unpainted a sink that didnt work and a HOLE in the bath... The front desk apologised but didn't appear surprised, gave us another room number and said 'try that one' This room was much bigger but in the same state of repair... The owner needs to invest in his business update its tired rooms and it would make a killing and prevent unhappy customer reviews like this...

...We stayed one night on the 21st floor. This hotel is absolutely grotesque and unsanitary... The wallpaper in the room was peeling off the walls and one of the lampshades was dented and broken... I began to look around the room further to see if anything could be the cause for his increased inability to get air... Not only was there black mold, on the walls, the carpet was visibly moldy in one corner of the room... For a hotel room to cause health complications because of extremely unsanitary conditions, is completely unacceptable and the way the hotel handled the situation was absurd...

...I had to use my EMERGENCY nebulizer machine because the excessive amount of black mold and filth in the room sent me into a severe asthma attack. If I had not had my nebulizer, I would’ve needed to go to the hospital because of the conditions of our room... The Managing Director of the Manhattan, Brendan Moraes, responded to my fiancés initial review and told her to contact the outside booking source that she reserved our room through for a REFUND... She contacted Hotels.com and they agreed with her that the conditions of the room were beyond unacceptable... This VERY TIRED and run down hotel leaves a lot to be desired for the price, an average of over $US400 per night with taxes and $40 facility (?)... Wall paper peeling off bedroom walls, taps falling apart each time one uses them - just pick up the little “HOT” and “COLD” pieces and put them back each time you use the tap... Really disappointing, dated hotel, rooms old fashioned, breakfast is muffin, bottle of water and an apple that you collect at the foyer... Given room key to find someone already in room, all belongings, etc, moved to 22nd floor... Apparently, this is a tax and facility charge that each room has to pay... Rooms very dated, sockets hanging off walls, window has expander foam around it, radiator was very noisy and was an old 1900 style... I wouldn't stay at this hotel again and would rate it a 2 star at best...

Booked this hotel from P/L where it was a room assigned at arrival... The room I was given was in horrible condition... Next morning, asked for a room change... On 3rd day changed to one of their (best kept secret) remodeled rooms... Went back to front desk to ask for another room... 3rd room I got was on 18th floor (the remodeled room section) where had to get burnt out light bulbs changed out... Ice maker on that floor worked, & room was acceptable... Employees said the owners do not really care because of the hotels location, they are always almost full, & guests accept hotel as is... The only thing that saved my time there was being moved to a remodeled room on 18th floor... ...So I booked a holiday for both myself, my daughter as an 18th Birthday present for her and my Mother in law, what should have been and experienced a trip of a lifetime, bucket list it was awful. When we arrived at the hotel we were greeted with a lovely warm welcome, a smile showing the perfect hotel, checked in and then that’s where it ended right there, it was all made up fake... I cannot believe they are advertising this hotel as the pictures are all very misleading and false advertising... It took me months to pay for this holiday and save up, I am absolutely devastated our whole holiday/vacation was ruined... My first 2 days of our Holiday/vacation was ruined and upsetting for both myself, daughter and Mother in law were I spent most of the day on the phone to the Travel Agents who rang the Aftersales USAIRTOURS on my behalf they then contacted me were I had to call and email etc this costing me money has I had to buy data for my phone...

The worst hotel i even seen in my life ! I have the chance to frequently travel and this hotel shouldn't be kept in service , it's matter of health ... Unfortunately I cannot rate this hotel high... I provided evidence by way of my credit card statement of being over charged for my room tax to which I was basically told that my bank was wrong and the hotel system was correct!... The only other plus is the location of the hotel, but I'm not sure if this is enough to persuade guests to stay as there are plenty of other hotels in the location that I'm sure do value their customers more and have better conditioned rooms to offer...

My sister and I booked The Manhattan for February 23-27, 2023. We arrived late in the evening and it took us 25-30 minutes to check in... There was only 1 person at the check in desk for 28 people in line... The woman checking guests into the hotel was so slow and took her time checking people in as if it wasn’t 10 pm and people wanted to get into their rooms... The woman at the front desk didn’t seem to be the least bit worried about all the complaints from guests... We go back to the front desk to let her know that she gave us a room that was already occupied... AMEX was no help and I strongly advise that they have more options for customers to speak with representatives in the states who can get matters resolved... Because the rep for AMEX in India was scared to take action and lacked customer service skills, I had to call around at 1 am and booked the Westin NY Grand Central which was a very pleasant experience...

...I stayed for three nights and was freezing for the first two until someone bothered to acknowledge my concerns. The phones don't work, the toilet leaks very time you flush, internet connection is bad and the air conditioning was not working until my last day... You will need to use your own personal phone to call reception who by the way, never bother to answer the phone... I later went down to get some help with the AC and had a very unpleasant experience with a lady in reception who informed me that maintenance would meet me at the room... Forty eight hours later ,and I was still waiting... And while maintenance did eventually turn up, it's pretty pointless on my last day after two days of having to manage in a freezing room in winter, no less... Do yourself a favour and book a decent establishment such as the Sheraton across the street...

The Managing Director of the Manhattan, Brendan Moraes, responded to my fiancés initial review and told her to contact the outside booking source that she reserved our room through for a REFUND... Hotels.com tried to contact the Manhattan multiple times that evening and was unsuccessful in getting ahold of anyone... The first person kept Hotels.com on the line for a long time and eventually hung up... Hotels.com told my fiancé that they would create a ticket for our situation and would continue to reach out to the Manhattan and get an answer as far as a refund... ...As soon as you use the lift to your room it all changes dramatically! Firstly the two receptionist that I dealt with were extremely rude , no please or thank you and a look to kill , what an impression to give their guests !... One of the hotel porters took our cases without asking us and loaded them onto a trolley to drop them off to our room so he could earn a tip , we did not need this service as we could have managed them ourselves but we had no choice in the matter they are very pushy !... When we entered our room it was a descent size BUT apart from that and the comfortable and suprisingly clean bed which was changed daily along with the towels in the bathroom , that was all that was positive... We asked to leave our luggage in the storage room until we were ready to leave for our flight , the very rude porter took our two cases and commented how hard it was for him to pull them on the wheels , and promptly suggested we get new ones in future , then he ASKED for money for his trouble which we were going to give him anyway. Not a pleasant start or finish to our trip to say the least !... The staff we had the misfortune to deal with here had a very bad attitude , were very rude and have no idea how to deal with their guests ,,customer service at its worst !...

...The ideal location for a short walk to Times Square, subway stations, Rockerfeller or Central Park. The lobby looks really nice and the lifts all worked during our stay... There was also a cafe area in the lobby which was open in the mornings for pastries/hot drinks... The concierge and doormen were helpful with getting taxis... The room was cleaned daily and contained a bath/shower... We requested an iron which we got, also hairdryer and shower products were included in pumps in the shower/bath... On the floor by the lifts there was a drinks vending machine and free water bottle filling station... In the room there was a tea/coffee maker and the sachets for this were refilled each day by house keeping... The curtains were dark and the bed was clean and comfy...

...Ice machine did not work, notice to go to another floor, ice machine did not work there either. Partial bathroom linen available... At least bed seemed clean... Ice maker on that floor worked, & room was acceptable... Ice makers on all floors (except 18th floor which has private access) were broken... Told had to get ice at front desk... For the cost of a room there, one would think more attention to providing a quality room would be at the top of owner's list - but apparently not...

Basic but not surprising-hotels in NYC usually do not offer breakfast... Broadway just behind the corner, Central park 5mins away, 5th avenue also, PERFECT location... Apart from older front desk woman everybody was nice and helpful...

Was pretty worried before going after reading reviews but hotel is not as bad as some reviews claim. It’s not the ritz but it doesn’t claim to be. Our room was fine although I agree the noise at night from elevators to plumbing was off putting but we got used to it. Location is excellent and all staff we encountered were pleasant and helpful. A good base for exploring. Hotel needs a lot of renovation but not the disaster some reviews claim. We would probably stay somewhere else next time we go to NY but if you’re booked up for here don’t worry it’s fine

This is my second stay here. Great location right next to Times Square. Got a free upgrade for my birthday which was a big plus. The room in the 18th floor was upgraded and modern. Bathroom lovely with rain shower head and good pressure. Not alot of counter space though. Room very clean. Front desk service friendly and helpful. Although no valet, parking easy just around the corner. Easy to walk to many places from this hotel. This is my second stay at this hotel. I would stay again. The non upgraded rooms are a bit more aged but we’re still clean. For me, you aren’t going to NYC to just stay in the hotel, but this is a very good one at an affordable price point.

I visited this hotel on the 21st of November with my family we had 2 rooms on the 10th floor on checking in we were told we’d have to pay a $200 deposit for each room for incidentals as she put it . On checking into our room we found the curtains hanging off rubbish at the side of the bed dirty toilet mould cleanliness absolutely lacking in all manners I was told on complaining they would detail our room and change pillowcases as dried in blood on them came back to nothing done .We were also stuck on the 10th floor with my elderly mother as lifts broken eventually taken down on the service elevator. The only thing going for this hotel was the location. It’s now 12 days since returning home and I’m still waiting on deposit being returned. Also please note there is also a $40 charge per room per night with tax as a city charge . Very poor service .

Jackie, it's disappointing to read about your experiences during your recent stay with us, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you've faced. It's regretful to hear you had some concerns with your room’s cleanliness and maintenance, as well as an issue with the elevator. As a reputable establishment, we always aim for a swift resolution whenever we are alerted to such matters. A pre-authorization on your credit card, which are standard in the hospitality industry, is taken as a safeguard. In most cases, this is released within 5-10 business days depending on your bank’s policy. Regarding the city charge, it is customary for hotels in the area and is highlighted during the booking process. We appreciate your patience in this matter and are wishing you all the best. Our team hopes for another chance to deliver a more satisfactory stay in the future. Brendan Moraes Managing Director

Upon arrival at the hotel, the staff member we spoke with at check in wasn’t very informative at all. They definitely didn’t appear to like their job.. Arrived at the room and to be honest, it’s basic, out dated and in serious need of an upgrade. The mattress needs replaced, there’s a bow across the centre of the bed. One towel was supplied in the bathroom, rang reception on two occasions and were told both times that someone would leave towels up. Over an hour in total passed and we phoned reception for the third time to be told that the hotel didn’t have any towels left! Upon requesting to be moved room we were then told a manager would call us back… never received that phone call. The girl we spoke to at reception originally rang back and advised that they would check other rooms for towels… eventually more towels arrived at our room. If you’re looking for a hotel with a decent location but don’t care much for the standard of the room then this might be an option. Having been in New York on three previous trips, I’m sorry but this one isn’t the hotel for me!

Megs565, we acknowledge your feedback regarding your recent stay. It's disheartening to learn about your experience at the point of check-in, and your disappointment with aspects of your room and bed comfort. Your feedback concerning the towel situation is also certainly concerning as we should have been more prompt in catering to such an essential need. We apologize as this scenario shouldn’t have occurred in the first place and we intend to rectify such lapses promptly. Our goal is to provide a seamless and enjoyable stay for all our guests, and we're sorry we missed the mark for you. Rest assured, our guest's satisfaction is incredibly important to us and we ensure your comments will be used in order to improve. We regret that we didn't meet your expectations during this visit, but we hope to have the opportunity to regain your confidence should your travels ever bring you back to New York. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Brendan Moraes Managing Director

Arrived at 630 and they had no rooms ready. When I got one it was shabby at best. Ripped carpet. Cracked bathroom mirror. Surge protectors laying on the floor for outlets near the bed. Old fluorescent light bulbs. Noisy heater (I kicked this and it got rid of some of the rattle). Mattress with giant lump in the middle. Only good thing I can say is I pulled back the sheets and did not see any evidence of bed bugs. But location and no bed bugs is all I can say that is good about this hotel. Spare yourself. The discounted rate vs others in area is not worth it.

This is not my first time staying at this hotel. I’m sure it won’t be my last, but this day was very disappointing. The floors were dirty the shower had a Ziploc bag there is no blow dryer or alarm clock. I asked to speak to a manager not once or twice but three times and it’s no point to the manager ever contact me now I’m being asked to leave a review I just have to be honest my bed was both like a banana the carpets look like they hadn’t been Swept. The coffee pot was greasy as hell I could go on, but I’ll leave it at that this time I was very disappointed.

The weather was in the 30's and we didn't have any heat. Also, did not have any soap of any kind, both concerns were brought to the attention of the desk staff to no avail. The noise we beyond loud, so much for the noise reduction windows, not in this room. It took three days and a conversation with the manager to get our room changed to one with heat, soap, shampoo and conditioner. Although the second room was 10 floors down, it was quieter, All of this for over $400.00 per night,

If I could give a negative score I would. The rooms are disgusting!! Broken with mold!!! It was like the way they clean the rooms is to just pick up the obvious stuff butt they don’t clean!! Dust everywhere!! I spoke with the manager before I got there about getting one of their renovated rooms and she said no problem and she would make that happen but when I checked in it was not renovated and when I complained they said there wasn’t any available. I’m starting to think they don’t have any. It’s just their way of tricking you into getting one of their crappy rooms. I feel like a motel 6 would if been better. Not only that but they tried to double charge me which didn’t help either. Don’t stay here all the bad reviews are the truth. I wish I would if listened to them.
