I was looking for a centrally located hotel and Tripadvisor nailed it! I hadn't heard about Sanctuary before and I will definitely be a return visitor. Friendly staff, lovely rooms, fun roof-top restaurant. I was in town during Climate Week and it was the perfect location - out of the fray but walkable to all events. Definitely recommend this!

rooms ok, bed good, no coffee/tea in room. Few mins from Time Square, loads of good bars n food place on door step. If your going download the Sightseeing App on ya phone saves you loads. Hot dogs, and huge flats, as the wife called them.

Great little hotel in a good location with a breakfast buffet included, comfy clean rooms. Reception, bellboys, maid service were all excellent. If you are looking for a good hotel in a central location then I’d recommend this hotel. Added bonus of two restaurants including a rooftop one.

Recently stayed in the Sanctuary for 5 nights. The location of the hotel is perfect, a lot of the main attractions are easy to reach from here. From check in to check out, all members of staff we encountered were more than helpful. Corridors were very dark which we found a bit unusual. There was a continental breakfast provided each morning (bagels, pastries, yogurts, cold boiled eggs, Avocado, fruit) tea and coffee. Tea and Coffee was available all day also although we did find the water was somewhat lukewarm in the evening time. The Haven Rooftop - I’d HIGHLY recommend you prebook this prior to your arrival at the hotel if you know you’d like to dine there a night. We initially booked for the evening of our arrival however as they had a private booking, they asked if i would like to book an alternative evening so we booked Friday, management provided a free drink due to this! Tasty food and cocktails. Rooms are small, but they’re comfortable and clean as is the bathroom. Overall, we were pleased with our stay and would book here again:

We had booked the Sanctuary Hotel for our second visit to New York as the Roosevelt where we stayed previously had closed. Personally, I felt that its standards would be difficult to match. How wrong I was, they were exceeded! The Sanctuary is excellent, with efficient and very polite staff in all areas, nothing was too much trouble. The complimentary breakfast was very good with a variety of options, and coffee was available at all times. We had dinner, one evening, in the rooftop Haven restaurant and it didn’t disappoint. The lobster roll is superb! If we return to New York for a third time, I’ll definitely be staying here again.

I stayed at the Sanctuary with my daughter for her 16th birthday weekend. We both had a great experience and would definitely recommend the hotel. Although just a couple minutes from the busy Times Square district the hotel was a true Sanctuary. Only 9 floors and almost hidden from sight, you are greeted by a friendly doorman and walk through an amazing front door. The staff was all welcoming. I had sent a message to the hotel prior to arrival about it being my daughter's birthday and Allie arranged for chocolate cake to be sent up to our room. The rooms are small, but the high ceiling in our room made it feel larger. The shower was great. I am not sure if our room was typical, but we did not have much of a view from our window...one downside of a smaller hotel surrounded by larger buildings. The included breakfast was a nice bonus. Mainly pastries, boiled eggs, and cereal, but it definitelyhelped to start the day. Overall a helpful staff and a great visit.

We went in September 22 for a 50 birthday. We picked as a boutique hotel and by uk standard it isn’t. Like many other reviews the rooms are small and look tired and worn out (e.g. bed corners damaged) but are clean There is no kettle in the room. Yes you can get tea/coffee in the foyer and we used everyday but the water was lukewarm and been there a long time over the day For the $25 daily room tax you do get breakfast but you eat on plastic plates with plastic cutlery and paper cups Like many others advise the roof top is hard to get a seat in. We went twice and the staff were quite rude so we left. One thing that isn’t good is that the roof top bar is open to the public and at most times there are many people in the lobby queuing waiting for the lift. That does not give the feel of a boutique hotel. The hotel states that you need a room card to use the lifts (which is meant to make it safe for you). BUT, there are 2 lifts and the second lift does not need a room card to operate. This means that non residents coming in to use the bar using the lift to can stop on any floor - not good from a security aspect. If you want to stay somewhere that is for a special occasion I would not recommend to stay here. A disappointing 50th birthday stay.

Dear Jayne P, I appreciate greatly you taking the time to leave feedback in reference to your time with us and whilst it sadly was not all positive, I do hope you enjoyed your birthday celebration in New York. We are a classic New York Boutique Hotel and as such, we do our very best to appoint our rooms as efficiently and comfortably as possible, as many reviews can attest to. Our coffee, tea, hot and infused water is available throughout the day and night and we are likewise more than happy to deliver it to Guest rooms and should temperature of water ever be an issue, this is something that can be immediately remedied! I am slightly concerned in reference to your remarks on the accessibility of Guest Floors via the lifts in our lobby. Both of our lobby lifts, the one solely for Hotel Guest use and the other to the Haven Rooftop. Access to Guest floors is restricted by use of both Employee Keys and Guest Keys, no restaurant patrons are able to access floors without the above designated keys. If you saw that this was somehow not the case, I would ask that you reach out to me directly at jimmy@sanctuaryhotelnyc.com as I will need to confirm that such a remarkable breach of security happened via our camera system. We strive to create unique, unforgettable experiences for our Guests and feedback such as yours allows us to grow and reflect on our service. Again, I would very much like to speak with you in reference to your stay and experience and can be reached at jimmy@sanctuaryhotelnyc.com, James Valdez Guest Services Manager The Sanctuary Hotel

Checking in was a fiasco taking an inordinate amount of time and multiple staff looking and poking at their screens resulting in my having to put two holding deposits down on my card as their system failed to recognise the first one and the staff insisting I put through another one despite my showing them one had already gone through in my bank account. Now waiting for a refund/ release. The hotel decor is very dark, macabre and basic. Everything is tired, worn with wall paper peeling off the walls, scratched doors. Chipped tiles in the shower cubicles, cracked sinks, missing fixings, stick on hooks, seats with missing buttons which injure you if you sat on them. The lifts are archaic like something from the Adams family and at times I was seriously concerned they would malfunction. The absolute worst thing is the noise. You can hear next door talking. The windows let 99% of the outside noise in which is unbearable without ear plugs (in central New York) when trying to sleep. The beds were very small, are over soft and unsupportive so I woke with a bad back. Self-serve breakfast is in a communal school-canteen-like room with breads and breakfast bars. There were hard boiled eggs but they were the most tasteless eggs I’d ever sampled. The toaster malfunctioned and so was out of order. Checking out was another drama and took 3 staff members and 20 minutes of my life. They had lost my card details and needed me to reproduce my card to pay for the resort fee. The only saving grace was that they did waive the resort fee to partially compensate for the pain. Old tired hotel in major need of refurbishment but charging premium prices simply due to location. The reception staff all seem in dire need of re training as they don’t appear to know what they’re doing! I would recommend you pay the same rates at the Marriott Marquis 100 yards away and get a premium stay where we have also experienced so know what “excellent” looks like.

Dear dainesegirl, I can appreciate fully your thoroughness with providing what was an inspection level of detail about the state of your room and of your opinions on the décor and bedding. I will say however that many of your concerns do seem to be relatively unique in nature and whilst I can certainly understand your frustration in wanting interactions at check in and check out to be as brief as possible, I would imagine if the process was elongated, it was for good reason and not to "waste 20 minutes of your life." We strive to create unique, unforgettable experiences for our Guests and feedback such as yours allows us to grow and reflect on our service. I would absolutely wish to speak with you further on this matter in detail and if you are willing, please reach out to me at jimmy@sanctuaryhotelnyc.com. Pictures are very misleading - the hotel is actually dirty and not well maintained. Rooms are minuscule depressing boxes. While centrally located for tourists looking to stay in Times Square, there are FAR better options in other parts of the city for less. Would never ever stay here again.

Dear Nicole A, I would there was another way of saying this given the blatant evidence you've provided, but I feel all I am able to offer is a sincere and truly meaningful apology. The state you found your room to be in is not only unacceptable in terms of its lack of polish, but for any Guest to be subjected to the failure of attention to detail as you very clearly were is, frankly, embarrassing. Given that our rooms are enjoyed by Guests, despite their size, I am all the more flabbergasted by the unkemptness of your room. I will be absolutely certain that this is investigated by myself personally and my housekeeping management to see how a Guest was let into a room in this disrepair. We strive to create unique, unforgettable experiences for our Guests and feedback such as yours allows us to grow and reflect on our service. I would absolutely wish to speak with you further on this matter and if you are willing, please reach out to me at jimmy@sanctuaryhotelnyc.com. James Valdez Guest Services Manager The Sanctuary Hotel
