Central to many attractions in midtown but it has a quiet bar and lounge area. The rooms a large for the city, but the bathrooms need a bit of refresh- especially the showers. The room has a large sofa with chaise which makes for a wonderful extra sleeping area.
I stayed in this hotel in June, particularly as it looked like a very modern hotel (since its refurbishment and rebranding) and was well located near Central Park. The location is very good, only a 5 or so minute walk to Central Park and subway stations at the end of the street. I noted others saying it felt unsafe on the street, I didn't experience this, it's in a busy area and as 'safe' as most places in Manhattan. The hotel was still undergoing refurbishment work so not all communal areas were open, however it did seem to have more available than in recent months where others cite there was almost nothing available. We had a really strong welcome to the hotel which I always feel is important. Having made a few basic requests to the room, despite arriving late in the day for some reason it wasn't quite ready or the staff wanted to be absolutely sure we were well accommodated. Even though the delay was brief, we were immediately whisked to the lovely bar for a complimentary drink of our choice off the menu, before the staff member came back to tell us everything was ready. The room was well sized for New York, we had a basic twin room but there was a seating area, it didn't feel too cramped and it was modern. The bathroom was also nice, a decent shower and lighting, with premium toiletries. I was really not a fan of the shower curtain though, I always find these grubby and unhygienic in hotels. There didn't seem to be a fan either so the mirror very easily steamed up. The air con in the room was very good, not too loud yet powerful. There were no tea or coffee facilities in the room which was disappointing. Beds were comfortable and the rooms weren't noisy, with good blackout blinds to aid sleep. Note that some rooms apparently don't have locks on bathroom doors so beware if staying with friends/colleagues if you value privacy. Also, twin rooms were only available in a small size. The gym in the hotel was quite big, a decent amount of equipment and also had a large studio with additional weights, mats and a number of Peloton bikes. I enjoyed using this most mornings. It involves a slightly awkward route, exiting the front of the hotel and going into another entrance where there's a blow dry and beauty bar down a very slow lift. The gym was exclusive to the hotel, I imagine when renovations are finished there will be an internal lift down there. The bar was visually appealing but some of the cocktails were hit and miss. Service was always good but things could be slow, ordering breakfast one day was a frustrating experience as we waited ages. It was also incredibly expensive, no surprise for NY (everything seems to have gone up in price by about 20% since my last visit a few years ago) but a basic breakfast for 2 ending up costing $120 with tip and service, which was laughable. The hotel offered a What's App service which made requesting anything a breeze. If toiletries were running low or you wanted additional towels, or needed your room serviced at a specific time, they were quick to respond, always delivered and staff at every level couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. Upon check-out they weren't that keen to engage with us or ask how the stay was, rather the staff member who helped us store our bags was particularly perturbed that we didn't tip him. Overall, it's a lovely hotel, well-located and I look forward to seeing what it's like when the final renovations are done and scaffolding is removed. It's hard to find a modern premium hotel in NY with decently sized rooms so I would happily stay again. The only thing is despite personally getting a competitive rate through a travel agent, the prices are really high to stay there-£500-600 a night which is really quite exorbitant for a 4* hotel.…
Had stayed here years ago when it was the Parker. Hotel is lovely, great location, glad they kept the burger bar and new restaurant space is nice. Rooms are great and staff very friendly. I was there for my board meeting and a gala event.
We will be recommending this hotel for all our friends and family whenever they come to NYC. Our checkin went so smooth, the room was spacious and very clean. They were very prompt in getting our son another down comforter for his pull out. Our breakfast waitress gave our son extra jams to take home because he loved them so much and she gave him a hug when we left. This hotel is beyond chic and gorgeous!!! This will be our go to place when we come back!!! Thank you to the staff for going above and beyond!!
Although recently modelled, they merely put lipstick on a pig. Rooms are functional. Food is so so. AC does not work properly. It would be fine for a cheaper hotel. Great elevators! Strongest part of the hotel.
A lot can be said about this hotel. They offer very good breakfast and service. As a globalist i was able to stretch this a lil bit more. I enjoyed my stay and the rooms are very clean. Kind of a nit pick, but I wasn’t give my request of high floor and also there was no coffee machine in the room! You’d had to go down by the bar and pay for coffee which was $8. Other than that my stay was pleasant.
The new Thompson Central Park is a nice hotel with a great staff and in a super-convenient location. The standard rooms are decent sized and are attractive in a contemporary style. Breakfast was consistently good, and consistently expensive, so beware. I’d happily stay again.
The Hotel Location and staff are excellent. The hotel itself is being rebuilt and updated, and ultimately will be of good quality. However, it is not ready for prime time, with just too many shortcomings having yet to be dealt with. For the sort of money charged one should choose other accommodations than this one. However, this review is time dependent, and within the coming year I expect bugs to be ironed out, the property updates completed, and the rating will likely increase to between 4 and 5.
The Thompson exceeded our expectations. It is a small hotel so the lobby and elevators were never crowded and very clean and safe. Our room was fantastic- immaculate and everyday they cleaned it perfectly. We loved being able to sit on our sofa and watch tv in the morning. The hotel is classy, quiet and the location cannot be beat! We would stay here again!
Better than expected!!! Great location. Loved Parker’s Ask for Bob there, he was the best!!!!!! Excellent breakfast and cocktails. Everyone at the hotel was super nice and attentive. Rooms clean and modern. Overall really nice stay!
