Despite its prime location near Broadway and Times Square, the Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan often receives mixed feedback. Reviewers frequently praise the hotel's cleanliness but are critical of the noise levels, with street sounds and echoes in corridors disturbing the peace. The decor is considered outdated by some guests, and the atmosphere lacks vibrancy. Service is commonly described as lacking, with slow and unresponsive staff diminishing guest experiences. Furthermore, many travelers question the value for money, pointing to unexpected fees and overpriced amenities. Rooms are clean but criticized for temperature control issues and outdated features.

Like many other people we were loved here from a partner hotel, the Manhattan, due to a mains water break and subsequent flooding.

The initial drag of suitcases through Times Square dampened the sprits of our arrival in NY but the friendly staff at the crowne plaza soon started to lighten the mood.

We were a little concerned initially as they said we had 2 rooms booked but soon sorted that out. A deposit of $300 was asked for, and given. Something I think might be standard in American hotels.

The room itself was very basic, 2 double beds, a desk, mirror and bathroom. It was however very clean, apart from behind the tv unit which you could see hadn’t been touched for months if not years with the dust and even an old remote control for the TV.

The view however from our 26th floor room looking northwards was outstanding.

The room was cleaned daily to a more than acceptable standard and the beds were comfortable although not as wide as we are used to for two of us and shared a bedside unit rather than having one either side.

There were no facilities within the room, no iron, fridge or tea/coffee making etc - things we would expect to be standard in this kind of hotel.

The location was also amazing. Step out of the doors and you are in Times Square. You can’t beat that.

Within a day the bus touts knew us and would not bother us but simply smile or say hello. The secret is the initial interaction and then actually speak to them. Not making eye contact does lot work with these people who are hustling hard to make a living.

Overall we had a nice stay in the crowne plaza. Only one start dropped due to the lack of facilities in the room

The big thing for us however was in checkout when we were asked for a $40 dollar per day service fee which we had not been told about by our travel company or the hotel on arrival. An extra $200 we had not budgeted for put a slight dampener on our leaving.

We left as we arrived with a slight damp squib holding us back. It was a bit of a shame.

DarrenCSwift, thank you for sharing your experience. It's great to know the team members at the Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan helped brighten your arrival and that you enjoyed the fantastic view from your room. The location truly is hard to beat. The concerns regarding the room amenities and unexpected service fee are noted; guest comfort and transparency are important, and your feedback will help in ensuring clarity and comfort for future stays. It's wonderful you found the room clean and comfortable otherwise. We're hopeful your next visit will leave a brighter impression. Warm regards, Alex K. Social Media Manager

I had a last-minute relocation from British Airways to the Crowne Plaza and after reading some reviews I was a little nervous - however the experience was great, check in was simple and we had a lovely concierge (Nana) who was so helpful and friendly, the hotel has been closed for a long time so a little dusty around the edges but not enough to cause a problem. The coffee shop opened early every morning for fresh coffee, pastries and bakes (reasonable priced too) the bar was open daily with bar food alothough the restaurant was closed (we had no intention of eating at the hotel anyway). The rooms where big and had great views of Times Square, they where also remarkably quiet (air con and heating all working fine) checkout was super simple and the resort fee was taken from the deposit so no hassle, all of the deposit was refunded immediately. Left luggage was a godsend and the team could be more helpful in directing us to the airport. The only downside for me was the location, on one hand you couldn’t be more central and if it’s your first visit to New York, it’s perfect, this was our third time and in hindsight somewhere a bit quieter would have been more suitable - all in all a great experience and the staff at the hotel where fantastic

Stayed for business for a week and have to be honest the hotel and facilities are a little tired.

Situated in the middle of Times Square which is great for sight seeing, the hotel had an air of tiredness from the minute you arrive.

Further with No gym anymore & no room service said a lot.

Rooms were tired and the shower area needed a cleanup and upgrade.

Staff were helpful which is great but at $450 per night I was expecting a little more.

We left some sunglasses on the nightstand that were no longer there when we returned from a walk. We made the complaint several times but there was no solution. This has never happened to us in other hotels in New York.
There is also a charge of U$40 per day for services, however the room does not have a refrigerator. This is complicated when you need to preserve foods such as dairy products, for example. Although the daily cleaning such as changing towels, bedding and cleaning the bathroom were adequate, when checking behind the furniture there was long-standing dust and dirt which speaks of poor preparation of the room before admission. The available chair was stained and had food remains and a bottle of medicine between the folds.
We have no complaints with the staff who were friendly in their attention but the details mentioned did not make our stay at this hotel pleasant.

We were moved to the Crowne Plaza from our original hotel (Row NYC) by our travel company ahead of our trip and reading some of the reviews about the Crowne Plaza, we were a bit concerned about the quality of the hotel. Well...we needn't have worried.

The Crowne Plaza was fantastic. From the friendly, helpful staff to the very spacious room we had, the hotel was everything we needed for our festive family break.

Room was clean and very spacious compared to others we have stayed in in NYC. Room was cleaned daily with fresh towels left everyday.

We were on the 32nd floor and never had to wait longer than about a minute for the lifts.

There was a $75 per day deposit taken when we checked in but that was only held on our card for a few days then released back to my account so know issues there. There was also a $40 per day service charge/resort fee to pay at check out but we knew that at time of our original booking which although a pain, we knew about it in advance.

The bar in the hotel was open for a period of time each day and the small takeaway diner/cafe was open each day from early till around 14.00hrs. We never used the takeaway but there were always queues when we passed.

The entrance to the hotel off Broadway was closed meaning you had to enter via the entrance off W48th St or W49th street. This was no issue either like we saw in other reviews. Entrance was always well lit and you were always greeted by the friendly door staff inside.

The location of the hotel is brilliant, right on Times Square, minutes walk to subway and loads of eating places etc. etc. You really are in the heart of Times Square.

Honestly couldn't fault anything about our stay. We had a fantastic Christmas Trip and the Crowne Plaza certainly played a part in that.

Thank you :-)

This was a mother/daughter trip to NYC, with my 13 year old daughter and my 77 year old mother. This hotel was in a great spot on Broadway, short walking distance to Broadway shows and nearby attractions. Don't spend extra for breakfast package, its grab&go and not a buffet or continental breakfast, just go right next door to Krispy Kreme or breakfast food vendor truck. They provide bottled water and coffee for the room. Check-in was a chore. Check-in is 3:00pm, and we got there early. We waited in line to check-in, our room wasn't ready but we got checked in and got our luggage checked in. We explored the sites and food festival that was going on for a bit. We got back to the hotel close to 3:00 and waited a long time in line to get our key, as there was only one line and limited workers. However the location was great, providing an easy walk to a Broadway show, the M&M store, sites, and places to eat.

I have stayed in this hotel many times, from back in the days when it was a Holiday Inn, so I made the mistake of booking it again. I paid 1,400 dollars for a three night bed and breakfast stay, and I was well and truly fleeced. Avoid this place.
I understand they are closing from January for refurbishment, and they seem to have abandoned any semblance of maintenance. The first room I was given was freezing, and the heating didn't work. The windows were grimy, and looked out on a wall of dirty glass on the return part of the building. It was also over a noisy air handling unit.
I complained and they gave me another room with cleaner windows, but the heat didn't work there either. A porter admitted that it only operates when the outside temperature is low enough, and that I was wasting my time trying to get the controls to work. Other guests told me they had the same problem. Eventually they gave me a small fan hearer, which helped.
The shower worked intermittently, initially running hot and then suddenly turning cold. It meant showering largely in cold water.
I paid for breakfast, but they don't do breakfast. They give you a voucher for any three items from a coffee bar in the lobby, and the queue can be more than 25 minutes. There are just four seated tables so you have to eat your breakfast standing up. The tables are filthy.
I have been in much better hotels in third world locations, and there are lots of much better places in this area.
I was caught, fleeced in fact. Don't even think about staying here, check around.

Location and service are 5⭐︎
I was concerned about the oldness of the rooms and facilities, so I gave it a 4⭐︎

[Excellent location] I had business mainly in Manhattan, so I used this hotel. I booked a room with a Times Square view and a king bed. From the room, you can see Times Square both day and night (this time I was in a room on the 37th floor).
Early check-in was also handled smoothly, and they handled my additional reservation carefully.

[Room] The building, room, and elevator themselves are undeniably old. The bed was comfortable. There was a large sofa, but the chair attached to the desk felt a little shabby. The shower had good water pressure. The sink was spacious and there was a hair dryer. It's better not to expect amenities. The closet may be small. The security box is a common type. There were power outlets everywhere in the room, so it was not a problem. The TV was large and easy to see. The air conditioner may not be very effective. There was a clock next to the bed that combined an alarm clock and a Bluetooth speaker. There was no mineral water, and no refrigerator. There is a CVS Pharmacy nearby, so you can get everything you need there.

[Price] It's not cheap, especially when you add up the room rate with taxes and other fees. But, the location is good, so it can't be helped, but if you're paying the same price, I think the new hotel would be a better place to spend time.

[Staff] Everyone was very friendly and helpful. There is a 24-hour security guard at the entrance on the first floor of the hotel, but the security guards there were also cheerful, so I was able to go out and come back in a good mood.

[Restaurant] I ate once at the bar in front of the front desk. The food was average, but it was served quickly. The staff were very kind and friendly.

[Transportation] It takes more than 5 minutes to walk from Times SQ-42st station. It's just a stone's throw from 50st station, so it's easier to get there from there.

I stayed here for my son’s graduation trip, and while the location was excellent, I regret not choosing a local Hilton or Marriott instead. The guest service reps were friendly and welcoming upon check-in, and the lobby area appeared well-maintained. However, our experience with the rooms was disappointing. The first room we were assigned had a musty odor, so the guest service rep kindly moved us to a different room. Unfortunately, the second room, 3504, was even worse. It had a strong mildew smell due to a wet carpet near the window. Though the staff attempted to resolve the issue by shampooing the carpet, the odor only intensified. Despite multiple attempts to address the situation, the manager refunded just $200 off our $1,200 bill, which I felt was inadequate and did not resolve the problem. If you’re considering staying here, I would recommend looking elsewhere until the hotel undergoes a full renovation. The carpets are particularly problematic for anyone with allergies

Great location and our room was a good size for 4 of us staying (5 nights). It was quiet and felt safe as soon as you step inside.

We had a room on the 37th floor with a good view of uptown Broadway. The room was looking tired and had quite a few issues which we wouldn’t expect for a 4-star hotel, they said they were aware of them but it didn’t feel that special for a Crowne Plaza (bath tub enamel peeling, furniture doors not closing, loose bathroom fittings, etc)

Check-in queues were very long but we had no problem at check-out.

There is a small takeaway shop within the hotel for coffee, pastries etc but slow service and we found we could get breakfast quicker outside the hotel. The bar/lounge is only open in the evening (happy hour is not included at weekends).

Overall it was a good base for a family holiday to New York, I’d probably look at alternative hotels if we were to return.
