For those who came to The Heritage before the corona years, a new visit can be a disappointment. In the past, your room was cleaned every day, but now you have to specifically ask for it. Breakfast has also been canceled (until further notice), which means that you pay more for less. As a Dutch person you never like that.
That said, the staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. From the cleaner to the receptionist. The rooms are small, but with an excellent bathroom (shower, bath). A refrigerator and coffee maker are available, but the amount of coffee (and tea) is limited (but you can ask for more at the helpful reception, as mentioned). However, we have never had a real window with a view (during 7 visits to the hotel), so you may have to book a more expensive room at the front of the building for that. The TV reception is still dramatically poor, and the channel offering, for example, lacks NY1. On the other hand, you can watch some Law & Order on some channel almost every evening. Then you won't hear me complaining. The rooms are not very noisy, and we have always had excellent neighbors. The 2 fire doors are noisy, or perhaps you should say that fellow hotel guests rarely stop those doors from closing?
Of course, the location near Madison Square Park remains excellent, with several subway stops nearby. The restaurant offering may not be exactly ours, but there is plenty of choice. For example, we love a halal West African restaurant on W 26th St, and there are several Indian restaurants on Lex. We can't say much about the range of shops, but perhaps the gigantic Eataly around the corner has its fans. We are charmed by the tableware store Fishs Eddy on Broadway. There is certainly something for everyone, with the gigantic Macy's department store also within walking distance.
All in all, this hotel is a reasonable hotel, where we would like to go again next year. But hopefully again with breakfast!

If you are looking for a 5* hotel with all mod-cons this is not for you.

However, if you are looking for basic accommodation within close distance to all tourist attractions this is the one ! Although the hotel is basic, it is sufficient for the needs of someone visiting NYC as a tourist. In a safe neighbourhood, close to all amenities and the subway. Literally 5 minute walk from the Flatiron building. A lovely deli 5 minute walk away as well as two supermarkets and other shops.

The room was small but did what we needed, a bed for the night, shower, TV etc. Room does need some updating but was ok, the bathroom window was broken and overall not that clean but that didn't bother us as such.

We were advised cleaning and changing of towels was only available on demand and this again did not worry us.

The reception staff were always welcoming and friendly and able to offer advice.

Overall, a great stay in basic accommodation, the location being the highlight ! 20 minute walk to Madison Square Garden & Times Square. About the same to Empire State Building.

We would definitely re-book this if visiting NYC again.

I booked this hotel as wanted a mid range price in a central location. It was my 4th visit to New York & found staying in Times Square far too noisy to sleep with traffic noise all night. I requested a quiet room, so we had no view but it was really quiet, me & my 3 daughters slept so well & the 2 double beds were really comfortable. The room was functional with an en-suite, toiletries & hair dryer & tea/coffee facilities. The room was quite small but I knew that, there are bigger rooms but you pay extra for them. We didn’t have breakfast included as we wanted to eat out at Ellen’s Stardust & Juniors, both near Times Sq just a 15 minute walk from the hotel. Empire State Building just 10/15 min walk. We also went up the Summit One Vanderbilt, which was great, much more of an experience with 3 floors of mirrors, glass & helium balls. Also found a great roof top bar 2 minutes round the corner from the hotel called 230 Fifth Rooftop bar, don’t need to book, we all just showed our ID, even my 16 year old could go up, stunning views at night all lit up. There’s lots of shops in the immediate area & places to eat, we sat outside in the sun having lunch at Madison Sq Park on our last day, enjoying watching the world go by. Subway right by to get down to ground zero/Battery Park, cost £2.31 single trip. Otherwise we walked everywhere north of the hotel as far as Central Park.
All the reception staff were very helpful, informative & courteous , I would recommend staying here if you want a good base for a busy trip.

We thank you for staying with us! We are pleased you were able to enjoy our central location and enjoy so many attractions! Our location makes it ideal for people who want to be able to enjoy both the north and south ends of our city as you very centered near most subway lines. We hope to see you again in the near future!

My dad and I stayed here for 6 nights while in New York over to see family and the city. The staff are friendly and helpful and when we needed anything, they were always happy to help. We had a twin room which was spotless and very clean! You could get fresh towels when you needed them and just had to let reception know if you wanted your room cleaned. The beds are extremely comfortable, and pillows were great. The shower pressure was great. On our last day, the lovely lady at reception held onto our bags while we went out to explore one last time before heading to the airport. I didn’t catch her name but we really appreciated her kindness. It is a really affordable option when visiting New York, we could not fault this hotel! In a great location too! Thank you to all the staff!

We had a lovely stay at the heritage hotel, easy and friendly check in. Clean room with a large comfy bed and nice pillows. Housekeeping needs to be requested but can ask reception for clean towels if needed. We had a view of the Empire state building from our window, it is only a 10 minute walk to see and the hop on and off big bus picks up from empire state which is a handy way to see the new york sights. It is about a 25 minute walk to Times square or between 15 - 30 dollars in a taxi/uber depending how busy it is. Only a 10 minute walk to maddison square garden, we walked this way to get to times square, making it a lovely walk. This Hotel is great value for money for a short break in New York.

This review is based on the fact that The Heritage Hotel is a two-star hotel, and I am comparing it to hotels in a similar price range. If you are looking for a comparison with high end hotels that offer a wellness spa and gym, then there is no point in continuing to read this review. If you are looking to stay at a hotel that enables you to spend the majority of your money in the bars, restaurants, and shops of this amazing city then this review may be of some help.
The biggest selling point for The Heritage Hotel its location. Less than 100 yards to Madison Square Park and the Flatiron Building, three blocks and anything from 2-5 minutes to all of the subway stops along 28th Street from which you can get to anywhere in New York, including JFK. Also, within a 2-3 block radius there are plenty of bars, restaurants, and coffee shops.
The staff at this hotel are excellent, Lorraine (I think, sorry if I am wrong) and Z. Every morning when leaving the hotel, we were greeted by a friendly smile and “Have a nice day” and always welcomed back on our return.
The hotel facilities were spotless. The room, the public areas and reception area which had a comfortable seating area for any waiting around for whatever reason.
The room was good sized, very clean with plenty of drawer and hanging spaces, a fridge and an efficient heater, which was needed in NYC in November. The beds were very comfortable, the bathroom and shower spacious and requests for extra towels were welcomed and provided immediately.
There is a 24 hour a day, 7 days a week manned reception, especially useful for night owls like me, as well as two lifts to all floors.
Also, apparently this is an independently owned hotel, not part of a large chain, so worth supporting.
Finally, will we return to this hotel next year if we are planning to visit NYC? The answer is yes, we were given a card which means we can contact and book directly with the hotel rather than through third party websites.

This hotel is reliably clean, friendly, safe and has all necessary amenities. While not a luxury hotel, this is my favorite place to stay in NYC. It has all that you need - clean, comfortable rooms that can accommodate different configurations of guests. We've stayed several times at this hotel with family and friends and highly recommend it! The staff is friendly and kind in giving directions to nearby restaurants and places to grab coffee. The location is ideally located near the Flat Iron building near shops, more restaurants and easy access to cabs and subways. Ham was wonderfully helpful in storing our bags and in ensuring our stay was all we could ask for and it was.

The staff was really nice and helpful! For the rooms: you get what you pay for. The rooms are okay, nothing too special but it’s enough for a nice trip in New York!

The location is more than perfect, within 1 or 2 minutes you’re on Broadway or in a metro station.

Simple hotel with all amenities. You can choose whether you want to use housekeeping. If you want, you can ask for everything you need such as towels, shampoo, etc. The staff is very friendly and service oriented. They waited quite a while on the phone for me to confirm a taxi. Next time I will order the taxi through reception.
Good experience, comfortable bed and nice neighborhood with plenty of restaurants.

Hotel is situated perfectly for walking uptown to Central Park etc or Downtown. We walked everywhere for the first 4-5 days just to see as much as we could. The Subway is also very close to the hotel and we found that easy too. The Hotel is a little older and the two lifts that operate are a little slower, but we expected that from reviews we read before booking and it was absolutely no issue at all. We could look out our window and see the Empire State a short walk away. We stayed in one of the family suites 2 adults and 2 adult children - for 8 nights, no issues at all. Very highly recommended and lovely staff.
