I never write reviews for hotels I have stayed at for business, because quite frankly I normally never want to give them a second thought after I walk out the door, but since I did spend the first night of my stay at 6 Columbus for pleasure I guess this isn't breaking my rules, plus this place deserves and has earned the best review I could possibly give. Even before I got to the hotel I was impressed as I had to call three times prior to my arrival for different reasons. 1. To extend my business trip for one extra day to stay there to visit with friends. 2. To ask for an empty refrigerator in my room 3. To ask some other random question I can't quite recall I have to admit that when a coworker recommended that this be the hotel we stay at for a conference in the city I was very suspect, but I am also a pessimist, and I dislike said coworker with the heat of a thousand suns, BUT by the time I arrived I was feeling better as each time I called the hotel (sorry about all the calls, btw) I spoke to a different person who was equally capable, knowledgable, polite, helpful, professional, etc. When I arrived Saturday afternoon I was greeted by an equally professional and polite person at the desk who offered to store my luggage while I waited for my room to be ready. I opted to hold on to my luggage and get a bite to eat and a drink at the attached Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar, and the gentleman who greeted me said he would alert me when my room was ready. I hardly had time to drink a cocktail and eat a few bites of a kale salad when he approached me and told me my room was ready for me, two hours before the official check-in time. YES the lobby is quite dark, but who cares. The elevators are quick (if a bit tiny) and took me to my room on the 9th floor. YES the room is tiny. I am from NYC. I have stayed in many rooms in NYC and at this price point and this location if you are expecting anything large you should not be in NYC. The room may be small but it was more well appointed than many luxury and boutique hotels I have stayed at for pleasure. 1. fully stocked wet bar that was actually empty the way I asked for it to be! They listened to me! I was seen. 2. Spotless. Everything was spotless. 3. The bathroom is actually quite pretty. I took a picture of the tiles as an idea for our bathrooms when we renovate them next. Slight complaint: The sink is weird. Not small thank God, but I stayed there for 4 days and me and a friend I had to the room just could not figure it quite out properly. Other than that the bathroom is great! Again, small but great. I do wish it had a tub and not just a shower, but this is NYC there is a lot more to do than take a bath in your hotel room. 4. Bed small but comfortable. Pillows could have been a bit firmer, but there were four of them plus a small decorative one that made it comfy to sleep on. 5. QUIET. Almost the most important thing for me in a hotel, and one of the hardest things to find in a hotel. In midtown this hotel was quiet day and night. I slept like a baby every night and was never awoken by anything coming from outside. 6. Maid service is amazing. I left my room for about 20 minutes one day and by the time I came back my room was as spotless as if I had just arrived including fresh linens. 7. Without exception, and including the attached restaurant every single person I dealt with was of a caliber you hardly every find in a Four Seasons. I can't explain how hard it is to find people working at a hotel who actually not only act and speak like they know what they are doing, but actually do it, and do it as if they themselves owned the hotel. 8. The hotel has a 48 hour cancellation policy, but I needed to get work done that I could not do from my hotel so my boss asked me if I could check to see if I could check-out a day early. It was less than 24 hours notice and with a smile the answer was absolutely. They let me shorten my stay by one day with no penalty. 9. When I checked out I was asked if I wanted a car. I don't think that happens very often now, and again the person who checked me out just was more professional than most people I have encountered at a hotel. Overall, I could probably keep writing for a while and still leave a lot of things that make this hotel great out, but I simply cannot thank them enough for making a (mostly) business trip be a very great experience. Without exception everyone who works in this hotel is top notch and I hope they get treated the way they deserve and have earned. THANK YOU! Now a word of caution: IF for some reason you are looking for a big luxurious room with a great view do not stay in the basic "pod" that I stayed in (room 92). The view is of an air shaft (again, who cares, you are in NYC, go OUT!). Really be reasonable and know what NYC is about. …
