We were on the 7th floor, shared bathroom, and yes used "that" elevator. I really like this place. I usually stay on the west side, but feel like this area is a lot more "calm" (if that's possible in the City.") Our bed was fine (room had non-working fireplace & the mantel could be used as a "place for stuff.")... More

It grew on me the longer I stayed. I ended up loving how unique and antiquated it was! The location was nice and it was easy to find from the street in a moving car. The staff was exceedingly friendly and helpful.

We stayed at Hotel 17 for 2 nights. The location and price were excellent - the best I could find in Manhattan. The room (with 2 twin beds) was larger than expected with a sink, TV, closet, towels, lots of lighting and good wifi service. The front desk staff are friendly and helpful. The room, hallway and bathrooms are very... More

Having been to New York numerous times and staying at various Hotels you realise that price is no guarantee of quality or service , As I was here myself for a short visit and on a budget I booked Hotel 17 expecting the basic no frills accommodation ,however this exceeded my expectations with its Art Deco feel , Nice wood... Given the comparatively low price and shared bathrooms, we weren't sure what to expect but were pleasantly surprised. The East Village neighborhood around 17th St and 3rd Ave is residential and safe. It's close to public transportation and several parking garages (note: metered hourly parking is enforced--meters must be fed every hour and vehicles moved in the a.m. for at... More

Great hotel for the value. Shared bathrooms are clean. Bedrooms are clean. Close to a major subway line that gets you to most of all tourist attractions without transferring. It's on a quiet street but just a walk away from a major street.

My daughter and I wanted to see New York and not blow our whole budget on the hotel. This was a great deal, and we LOVED the neighborhood. We were just a 2-block walk from so many great small restaurants and shops, we couldn't believe it, and we were close to all the public transport we needed to see all... More

Great place. Great location - a 10 minute walk to union square for subway. Room was quite small but quiet enough bed comfortable. Great wifi. Tea and coffee maker provided. Shared bathrooms. Cons: hard to get up down front steps with luggage. No teabags provided. One bathroom didn't have a sink (but 1 in room).

Great value. Simple place, nothing fancy. If you want a quiet, clean hotel in a good Manhattan location, and you're top goal is to save money in exchange for a few sacrifices, this is a great choice. The hallway bathroom(s) worked just fine for me (note that it is NOT a community shower; it is simply a private one-person hallway... More
