I recently stayed here for 2 nights while traveling on business. The location is great for access to subway, Central Park, Lincoln Center and lots of excellent restaurants. My room (standard queen) was fairly big by NYC standards and the bed was really comfortable. The lobby interior is very cozy with wood paneling and a gorgeous chandelier.

The scaffolding, dust, stink and utterly disaffected staff at the Excelsior dismayed us as soon as we arrived. The surly man at reception was hostile and peremptory. The room was shabby & in dire need of renovation? The air conditioning was clearly struggling with the 100 degree heat. The bath and sink were both stained and patched with polyfilla (spackling... Stayed here for 3 night with my family. The hotel is good. Great location, clean, friendly staff. The room was a little bit small, but hey, it is New York. The reason for not giving 4 stars is the old airco. The room gets hot, than the air conditioner starts to blow a huge amount of cold air (you get... More

Spent 6 nights in this hotel with my wife while on holiday in New York. The room was ideal and clean, and had enough space for our things. The en suite was a decent size but the one downside was a shower curtain rather than a screen, although the shower (over a bath) was actually fine. The bed was extremely... More

Short walk to Central Park, slightly shorter to the Subway, Great location, but met the biggest Cockroach I have ever seen. Fobbed off at reception. Corridors were not clean. Views of the parkland around the Natural History museum would have been nice. However during our stay the outside of the building was being cleaned or refurbished so our view was... More

This hotel is a short walk from Central Park. First time in New York and loved every minute the staff in the hotel were friendly and informative. We were upgraded for my birthday celebrations, which was a wonderful surprise. Hotel is located near tube stations and is also within walking distance of lots of sight seeing. We will use the... What a wonderful location, opposite the national history museum, within very easy walking distance of Central Park. Plenty of eating places nearby, subway station less than a minute walk away. Added bonus is that whilst being close to everything, this hotel is in a lovely peaceful location.. Stayed on a room only basis. Rooms spotlessly clean, serviced daily by friendly... More

We could not have been happier with our stay at the Excelsior. Our room was beautiful, staff helpful, a/c powerful, and location amazing. It's a perfect location I. A great neighborhood by Central Park, with a 10 minute subway ride to Columbia University or Times Square. I will be sure to stay there again next time I am in New... More
