Great alternative accommodation in New York. It is a three-minute walk from Metro 51st Station and Lexington Av/53st. Lines 4, 5 and 6 that connect to much of Manhattan pass through the first station and line E that goes directly to JFK Airport (after transfer on the AirTrain) passes through the second station. It is also located in a very central location of Manhattan, ten/fifteen minutes walk from Grand Central, Times Square, Top of the Rock, Central Park...
The hotel staff is very friendly and the rooms are not noisy at all, although you hear a bit the air conditioning equipment located on the low roofs of the attached buildings.
They have rooms hair dryer, coffee maker (free coffee you have in packets), mini fridge, air conditioning, large and comfortable beds and desk.
It also has a gym, a space with computers, a scale at reception to weigh suitcases and in addition, on rainy days put a lot of folding umbrellas at the entrance of the hotel for free use by the clientele (all included in the $31.24 facility fee - July 2024).
It has two large and elegant elevators that connect very quickly with the 18 floors of the building.
Disadvantages: they don’t have food service, so either you prepare it in the room, buying some pecking at the nearby supermarket (Morton Williams - at 908 2nd Ave) or directly opposite you have a restaurant, or a McDonald,s that is open 24 hours a day (at 824 3rd Ave).
The area is not noisy at all, the hotel is not very expensive compared to other hotels of similar category in the area and both my three daughters and I left the hotel happy being very comfortable in the spacious room.

Excellent stay! Very convenient location. Easy to access subways, walking or taxi. Quiet stay with extremely helpful staff. Safe area and quite affordable! Would return to this hotel without a doubt should I get a chance to return to NYC for a 3rd time :)

I’m very happy I chose this hotel for my October stay with my daughter. We stayed in a double room with a queen bed, and to my surprise, the staff made up the sofa as a bed, giving us both our own beds. The room is divided into two separate areas, which was very convenient: one area with a sofa (converted into a large bed), a table with two chairs, a wardrobe, and a small kitchenette; and another area with the queen bed and access to the bathroom. It felt like having two rooms since the spaces were separated by a door. The AC worked well in both areas. The bathroom was stocked with a hairdryer, a magnifying makeup mirror (which we loved), shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion. The bathtub was great too. The staff was very kind, and we booked their airport transfer, which was comfortable and comparably priced to Uber. The hotel is just a 10-minute walk to Rockefeller Center and 20 minutes to Times Square. Manhattan can be a bit noisy at night due to roadwork, but it didn’t bother us too much. Overall, I’m very happy with my stay and would definitely recommend this hotel!

Hotel San Carlos is a real gem in the middle of New York. It is quiet, has an unprecedented silence in all rooms for the City, and has incredible comparative advantages. For example: it has a bag scale, the elevators are fast, they have airport service and transfers (of course you pay separately), a very efficient staff, warm always and at all hours available (24 hours) and an absolutely privileged location ten blocks from Times Square and twelve from Central Park. The price is totally in line with what it offers with an added bonus: there are small apartments – and not so small – with refrigerators and microwaves to cook something or buy food in a supermarket, which can generate strong savings in expenses. The TV is quality and has a wide variety of channels of all types. The air conditioning works perfectly and, for example, in the case of two-room rooms it has two independent airs. The cleanliness is impressive: from armchairs to crockery, everything is spotless. A subject that may seem to some to be a disadvantage that, in my case, did not cause me any harm: it has no breakfast, no food service, no bar. But less than half a block away there is a Mc Donalds and mini supermarket open 24 hours and two blocks away a larger Morton Williams supermarket also open 24 hours. As I said: it is a small hotel for what is the general hotel in NYC but is usually full if not booked in advance. In short, of the best hotels in NYC with the exception that it is not a known chain but is a hidden gem in the middle of the city. Super recommended.

My mother, daughter and I stayed at the San Carlos Hotel for four nights in February. The hotel is clean and hotel staff are welcoming and friendly. The location of the hotel was perfect for us, it was close to all the main subway lines that took us to all of the tourist destinations on our agenda. The hotel does not have a restaurant or room service, but we did not find that necessary with many restaurants and coffee shops in close proximity. Housekeeping came daily and promptly brought us additional towels when needed late on the evening of our arrival. The beds and pillows were comfortable, room temperature stayed a nice constant. We would definitely stay at the San Carlos again and recommend to our friends for a friendly, comfortable and great value hotel.

Even before our arrival, they contacted us to answer questions about our upcoming stay. Our arrival was very welcoming, including information on the discounted parking arrangement at a nearby garage. The public areas are very pleasant and the staff was exceptionally helpful. Our room was small but well equipped (a real drip coffee maker and real cups and glasses!). The room was very quiet and the bed was comfortable. We had requested feather pillows when we made our online reservation and they were delivered by housekeeping immediately after we got to the room. Checkout was again smooth: they held our luggage, we picked up our car, and drove to the hotel, whereupon the doorman brought the luggage to the car. We look forward to returning to the San Carlos soon!

Great hotel, very nice and helpful reception staff. The room large and always well cleaned. Very convenient mini-kitchen with fridge, microwave and American coffee maker. View the location is very quiet. The location is very convenient to reach the 5th avenue on foot (arriving practically in front of the Lego Store) or the subway on the Green Line stop Lexington/51st. There are many restaurants nearby and in front of an excellent Diner for both breakfasts and meals, not far away there is also a supermarket and 7n amazon-go. Very comfortable umbrellas available in the lobby.

We enjoyed our stay at the San Carlos Hotel in NYC. The hotel is in a great midtown location within walking distance of restaurants, bars and shopping. It’s also only about a 10 minute walk to the Rockefeller Center and Broadway. The hotel is also connected to the Spice Symphony restaurant which is one of the better Indian restaurants in the city. We stayed in a deluxe king bed room which had a fridge, microwave and small kitchenette area. The room also had a safe. One of the many things we loved was the size of the room. 350 sq ft for a reasonable price is a rarity in NYC! The two concierge’s we met were both outstanding and very helpful. The hotel maybe a little dated but we will definitely stay here again.

Really enjoyed our time at this hotel, staff were very friendly and helpful and the location was just perfect for our first time in NYC. Close to some great bars and restaurants and to many of the main attractions. Great little breakfast place across the road. Our room was on floor 12 overlooking the front, so spacious. We had asked for a high floor so it was nice that this request was met. Agree the hotel is a bit dated but still charming and immaculately clean. Housekeeping was of a high standard. Kitchenette was a real bonus, we asked for a kettle which arrived in no time. Would highly recommend this place and would definitely return - hopefully later this year - loved New York, loved the San Carlos. Thank you for a great stay.

The kitchenette with minifridge, microwave, dishes, silverware, glasses, and a can and bottle opener made it possible to prepare breakfast and dinner in our room. Each day, the housekeeping staff replaced our dirty dishes with clean dishes. The iron, ironing board, pants press, and 2 white robes were a nice touch, as was lending out umbrellas on a rainy day.
For our family of 5, it was so nice to have 2 rooms and 2 TVs within our suite. It was well worth it to pay the extra daily fee for a roll-away bed so that, between the second bed, sofa sleeper, and roll-away bed, each of our 3 teenagers could have their own bed. It was great to have 2 closets to store our luggage in. Also, we appreciated the fitness center and the business center, both for their usefulness and also to have someplace to go when someone wanted a little break from 24-7 family time. The vending machine in the business center was handy.
The staff was very friendly and eager to help. This hotel is clean.
Great location in Manhattan. Just go 1.5 blocks to the subway station on 51st St, take it downtown to Grand Central Station (42nd St), and transfer anywhere. Take subway 4, 5, or 6 Uptown to return to 51st St station. The multiple Duane Read stores nearby were convenient for essential groceries.
We would have preferred that the bathroom had a fan.

Our suite had a bedroom door that shut. The bathroom was in the bedroom portion of the room. There was no great view where we were but I didn’t ask for one.
