A very positive review of Best Western apartments 149E 49th St Manhattan (between Lexington and 3rd Av.) Firstly a very friendly welcome from Maria at front desk. She helpfully provided written directions to a local Morton Williams supermarket on 2nd Avenue (open 24hrs and loads of good quality produce, soft drinks and alcohol. Friendly checkout staff too)
Apartment 8B 2bed with large living/dining area, spacious enough for family of 4 adults we didn’t use the sofa bed which would increase capacity to 6 but might be a tight squeeze for 6 adults. The beds were very comfortable. The galley kitchen has a large capacity fridge, oven and microwave. Everything in apartment was clean. There were sufficient crockery and cutlery for 4. The shower room was clean with a good quality shower over a mini bathtub. The apartment was serviced every other day during our 6 day stay.
The complementary breakfast is a nice touch. The breakfast room is fairly small we found it easier to take a tray of coffees croissants omelettes etc. back to the room for a more leisurely family breakfast experience.
The location of the apartment in mid town east is excellent for access to Central Park 15mins walk, Rockefeller centre 10mins, Times Square 15mins. It’s on the next block to the Waldorf Astoria. There are close by subway stations at 51st and 53rd streets.
The general area is quite quiet for traffic, we were not disturbed by traffic noise. The area feels generally safe during daytime and evening we were happy to allow adult teenage children to go out alone in the evenings. Smith and Wollensky restaurant and grill on 2nd avenue was excellent for seafood and steak great atmosphere and friendly staff.
Checkout time is a reasonable 1130am and there is a secure luggage room if returning to pick up luggage after checkout.
We would definitely stay at the Best Western apartments again.

This hotel is a rare find in NYC. Our room was an apartment style with plenty of room for 5 people to spread out. It was clean, quiet, and the staff was friendly. The Midtown East location worked well for us. Our family has several dietary restrictions, so having a full kitchen with plenty of space to store and serve breakfast, lunch and snacks was helpful. This hotel was also an affordable option, especially when you consider the size of the rooms. It was incredibly clean also. I would recommend to anyone, especially larger families!

I am giving the hotel 5 stars as it has one feature (for us) that far outweighs a few other minor issues.

We stayed as a family of four with boys 17 and 19. We had been planning to go to New York for a few years but almost didn't when Airbnb was banned as hotel rooms are not suitable in the US, i.e. only queen beds and no singles. However we luckily found this place that had two bedrooms (one with two single beds) plus a large lounge/diner and kitchen. Hence it was like having an apartment. The rooms are a bit tired so if you want a modern plush hotel then maybe it's not for you.

The location is very central and you can reach a lot of places by walking. As an aside we used the subway for longer trips and found it to be fine.

Breakfast is good but busy. The only gripe here is that the room was unbearably hot and hence we didn't always stay even if there was space to sit so would take food back to our room. The staff here and throughout the hotel are excellent.

There was a lot of street noise. We were at the front ( level 4) but not sure it would be any different elsewhere. The New York 'honking' is a 24 hour phenomenon !

Overall if you are a family looking for space and location then this would be a good choice.

Probably closer to 4.5 stars, since it's a bit dated, BUT if you can over look that, this is a gem of a hotel in NYC. It is Huge and a full breakfast is included. My husband and I stayed in a 1 bedroom suite; there was a full kitchen, a large roomy living room, a full bathroom with a tub, and a large bedroom. The living room had a pull out couch. We were on the 9th floor, and didn't hear much street noise. The breakfast in the morning was a full breakfast. There were warm entrees, fruit, pastries, bagels, waffle maker, coffee, hard boiled eggs, yogurt etc. Coffee is available 24/7. There are plenty of dining choices nearby.
The hotel is on the East Side between Lexington Avenue and 3rd. It is 2 blocks from the 51st #6 Subway and 6 blocks away from #4, #6 and cross town shuttle stops at 42nd St. So this is a convenient location.

We spent 7 nights, 5 of us (2 adults and 3 teenagers) in one of their Penthouses. Very clean apartment, very well equipped with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (with 1 toilet in each bathroom), a very well equipped kitchen (dishwasher, fridge, microwave oven, hob, toaster.. . and with everything you need to wash the dishes or do the dishwasher), a spacious living/dining room with sofa bed. A huge terrace (small downside for this terrace, there is a large wall which spoils the view, but you just have to look up and you know that we are in New York since there are several buildings around).
Air-conditioned apartment (nice in August!).

Very very pleasant staff.

Indeed, the breakfast room is small but you can easily take your breakfast to your room or wait a few minutes for a table to become available. Copious and varied breakfast (all-you-can-eat buffet).

Very well located hotel, close to Grand Central and close to a metro that will take you everywhere.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel and a dream stay in NY!

Great space in this large 2 bed apartment, Kitchenette, large living room with dining table, 2 bedrooms & one bathroom with shower in the bath. Everything was very clean with very comfy beds. Small buffet breakfast was included so we got our coffees, juice, bagels & muffins and brought them to the apartment to enjoy. Saw kids enjoying making waffles or having cereal which must be great for young families. Staff were very friendly, (shout out to Doughlas for his help) and they kindly stored our luggage on check out as we had an evening flight. Would highly recommend staying here rather than the cost of 2 or 3 hotel rooms !

We loved this hotel. We stayed in Penthouse B and it was clean, practical, and perfect for a family who were ready to see the sights of New York for the first time.
The staff were all really pleasant and helpful, and wished a nice day every time we saw them. Breakfast was included in the price and there was plenty of it to choose from. Our daughters had freshly made waffles every day, whereas my husband and I had the potatoes, eggs, and bacon, with freshly made pancakes, and coffee every morning. It set us up perfectly for long days of sight seeing. The only advice id give is that the breakfast room is quite small so be prepared to either not have a table or be prepared to wait for a table. The hotel are great in providing trays so that you can take away all the breakfast you want and eat it in your room so you honestly won’t miss out!
We loved the location and we were a ten minute walk from grand central station, ten minutes from Rockerfella centre, 20 minute walk from the Empire State Building, 5 minutes from a supermarket (Morton Williams), so it suited us really well. We used the subways that were not a big walk away to get around.
We were able to leave our bags at the hotel on our last day so we could go and enjoy our last few hours in the city.
Oh to do it all over again!

Stayed here for six nights in Jan 2025. This was our go-to hotel 20 years ago but it had been awhile. We lucked out on a very good rate in mid-January and were excited to return. The hotel consists of large apartments and is in a phenomenal location. Staff is generally friendly and helpful; the free breakfast is a nice touch but is very basic.

Unfortunately, the radiator in our bedroom was clanging alot and kept us up on night one. We reported this to the front desk, and they moved us to a different room--Penthouse B. We were thrilled to be in a room with an outside roof terrace, even though it was 20 degrees. We had a few issues with the room but were very happy to have so much space--especially in NYC.

The biggest issue was the internet service, which was spotty to non-existent. We reported the weak signal to the front desk multiple times, but their response was to give us a tech support phone number. Our calls failed to fix the problem, though we tried each day. Since I was working and dependent on the internet for Zoom, email, etc., I had to leave the building each day and work elsewhere. We also had issues with the room temperature, and on the final day found a giant cockroach under the bed.

Bottom line, this is not a hotel for business travelers. We knew that going in, but the mid-winter price is impossible to beat and we couldn't resist all that space.

I stayed at Best Western Plus with my family of 4 people for 8 nights daily. Definitely, it was not a good experience. Positive points: an excellent location, with a great breakfast, considering the NY standards. It is a very spacious apartment, with living room and kitchen, allowing us to prepare dinner and then watch TV, which we appreciate very much. The bed is great, the sofa bed too, and the bathroom meets well. Negative point: the hotel is very old, walls in some sections peeling, urgently needs a renovation. Until then, okay, not enough to be a big problem. Unacceptable point: after 7 nights in apartment 3C, hearing very strange noises, we discovered mice in the apartment. My wife woke up hearing noises, turned on the phone lighter and saw a mouse running into the closet. And then my daughter saw another, running down the couch. We had some chocolates and fries in our bags, and we found that they were all roasted by the mice. I went directly to the reception, reported what happened, and I was only told that we would be replaced. I still asked that a person from the hotel, I don't know exactly his function, came up to see what happened. I understand that NY has plenty of mice and rats, sometimes, run out of control. What really upset me was the indifference with which everything was treated. I didn't get a single apology from anyone. It is a shame, as it is a hotel with great potential.

This hotel is in a great location and unusual for NYC in that it offers apartment style accommodation rather than family rooms. The hotel is clean but the rooms and decor are very dated and could do with some updating.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast offer was far better than we expected and had several gluten free options. During our stay a water pump broke and we had 24 hours without water - not being able to shower or use the toilet was very inconvenient. The staff did their best to keep guests informed and for a short period there was a toilet/shower available on the ground floor until they stopped working.
Disappointingly there was no management presence whilst the issue was ongoing and the staff present had to bear the wrath of angry guests. We were told that a Manager would be on site on the Sunday to discuss compensation but there was nobody there at the times we were (early morning/evening).
We understand these things happen but it’s how you deal with it that counts. To have no contact from a manager is poor and we felt sorry for the staff left to deal with the fall out. An email to Best Western has gone unresponded to as well. Will make us think twice about booking BW in the future.
