We just stayed at the Edition, and it's OK. It's chic in its austerity, with a black/white/beige color scheme, with generously proportioned spaces. We arrived at 5pm (4pm is check-in), and we waited 20 minutes for our room to be ready. I've given up on the idea that I will ever be upgraded at a Marriott hotel in NYC as a Platinum Elite member so I wasn't disappointed when it didn't happen. We got to the room and the otherwise polite receptionist had not coded our keys correctly, so we couldn't get in initially. Housekeeping let us in. Pros: -Location is great. We used to live in NYC and like that area of town, and subways are convenient to get. -Our room was comfortable enough for a night, not small, and the bed was comfortable. -A/C was good. -Despite facing Madison Square and 23rd street, we heard barely any noise. -The staff is polite. Not warm, but polite. Cons: -The destination fee is rude for a room of that cost. Our receptionist invited us to have a drink in the bar after we waited 20 minutes for our room in the lobby with our bags. I thought it was a comp for our having to wait, but he handed us a card explaining that we had already paid for the drinks with our destination fee - so, it's a bit of a false invite. Not his fault, it's just a rude policy that will prevent my returning. Presenting an invite for additional hospitality you have no choice but to pay for isn't really hospitality. -Tea or coffee in the room would have been nice. There was a article in the NYT recently quoting a sommelier as saying that working in a restaurant used to be mostly about hospitality, but now it's mostly about sales. I left the Edition feeling that her sentiment must be relevant in hotels, too.

I'm a native New Yorker who moved out of state a few years ago. I spent the night here to enjoy the city on my way to visit family in Queens. PROS: - very friendly staff. Everyone was super helpful and pleasant - nice lobby bar to relax in - location is perfect - so close, or a short train ride away, from everything tourists would want to see, or returning New Yorkers would want to check-ou. - clean rooms with minimalist furniture. however, i loved to large desk in the room - very helpful to dump your stuff on top of, or work remotely. CONS: - no bathtub - not a big deal, unless you hope to take a soak - mandatory $35 "destination fee" - you HAVE to use it at the bar or spa the night you stay, otherwise you lose it. I would have liked to be able to use it for room service, but that's not allowed.

Bonvoy/Marriott members avoid. They say they do not give upgrades anymore you have to pay full price for a different room. Staff is cold and unwelcoming. You pay the prices based on service. This hotel doesn’t have it. Other recs - Ritz nomad Ritz Central Park St Regis Le meridien 5th ave

This is NOT a 5* hotel by any standard- let alone NYC - I expected so much more than Surly door staff - too keen chatting to each other to even greet us or open the door , dirty furniture in the reception area, peeling paint in corridors , no Flowers / fruit/ cookies - nothing at all to welcome you to your room. The noisiest bath draining you could possibly imagine - deafening to be in same room - we have an audio recording you wouldn’t believe. The staff seem nonchalant and go through the motions of arrive without seeming to mean anything sincere . Prices for food in the lobby are really unnecessarily high - as are the prices for the mini bar in the room. Rooms are small , it all needs a clean and tidy up - as do the staff - I wouldn’t stay here again , there are so many better hotels ( we have checked out 2 days earlier and found a real 5* - review of that to follow )

Such a cute, boutique style hotel. The stay was very accommodating, especially Diego the Valet/Bellman. Such a nice person who is a great face of the hotel. The room was clean/modern. We were on the 28th floor and heard absolutely no noise from the outside world. Bed was comfortable. The bar is sleek with interesting cocktails. We shared the RoastBeef sandwich and it did not disappoint.

One of the best in town. This is the place to redeem all your bonvoy points - amazing rates for a room that goes up the best luxury hotels in the city. Also incredibly customer service and housekeeping. Also props for being one of the only luxury hotels outside midtown.

Typical Bonvoyed behavior from a luxury brand. As Titanium Elite I always check availability before I check into the hotel on the APP. I was a few hours before checkin. I told the desk that I'd be happy to check my luggage with them, and get my room later to I could have an upgrade. The desk told me they were totally sold out despite showing availability for me to make a new reservation. I got up to my room and touched base with Bonvoy support as I am celebrating a special occasion and found this whole thing pretty annoying. Support called the hotel and was told I wasn't given an upgrade because they were at high capacity and I had asked for an early checkin. Literally the opposite of what happened at the desk. This property is stunning, the rooms are nice, the restaurant and bar are hip, but at 700-1000 a night that would be true of any comparable property in the city. If you are looking at this hotel to get use your benefits... don't bother. There are a dozen hotels just as nice that will cost you less.

Paid a lot of money for what was poor service relative to other Edition hotels. I asked in advance for an early check in as a Titanium Elite member only to arrive later than expected at 4pm and be told there was no room available yet…I explained I needed a shower after a long flight before rushing out for an early dinner so really needed a room. Eventually a supervisor found me an upgraded room. That was the one positive experience of my stay . It was heavy rain that evening. No umbrella in the room & I was told they were out of them . So I was left to get drenched . Very poor for a 5 star hotel. No espresso machine in the room. In other Edition hotels I have had them delivered . This hotel told me they would charge $44 for this basic amenity !! This hotel is seriously overpriced and not at the level of service of other Edition Hotels I have stayed at

As usual, the New York Edition was a calm peaceful hotel in a very crowded city. The hotel was quite full, but still felt very clean and tranquil. We were only there one night but enjoyed drinks downstairs and had a really lovely loft room. The front desk and the concierge both go out of their way to make sure everyone is having a pleasant stay. Paola, in particular made sure we had a beautiful room on the 25th floor which worked for the three of us. The staff at all Editions is always amazing even down to housekeeping who very promptly took care of a few requests! We did not get a chance to eat at the Clocktower, but have always enjoyed it in the past. We will definitely be back!
