Neighborhood
Chelsea
Home to hundreds of art galleries, beautiful brownstones, and one of New York’s newest and most popular attractions, Chelsea is one of the city’s jewels when it comes to neighborhood life. The contemporary art scene is an integral part of the neighborhood’s identity, with gallery openings almost every night of the week and countless exhibits to explore. As a longtime hub of gay culture in New York City, it’s also a diverse district with a vibrant nightlife scene. The opening of the High Line, an abandoned elevated train track transformed into a world-class pedestrian park, gave this neighborhood new life as a tourist destination. The High Line provides visitors with a tranquil, elevated space with incomparable views, providing an unparalleled way to experience the city.

We spent 9 nights in the studio basement apartment. It was warm, clean, well equipped, cosy and very peaceful. Karen and Paul are helpful, pleasant and clearly take pride in their establishment- which is reflected in the high standard of accomodation they offer. We enjoyed chatting to them and appreciated their advice on several occasions. The location is just perfect. You can walk uptown or downtown easily. And there are several subway lines servicing both a few minutes walk away. There are good supermarkets and plenty of laundrettes round the corner as well as a variety of cafes and restaurants . We loved our stay. Thanks Paul and Karen.

My husband and I stayed at A Garden in Chelsea for 10 nights in the 1 bedroom apartment on the 2nd floor, the apartment is clean, spacious and very well equipped, perfect for two of us. After a full day touring the city it was a delight to come back to the apartment which is very well located to the subway and is surrounded by beautiful brownstones. Karen was extremely professional to deal with and prompt replying to any inquiries I had prior to our stay with lots of great tips for the theatre and restaurants. Both Paul & Karen are extremely hospitable hosts, I would highly recommend staying at A Garden in Chelsea.

Thank you for this fantastic review. It makes all the difference. It was great having you stay with us and I hope our paths cross again in the future. We are horrified with the reports of the calamitous fires going on in Australia. Please be safe. Karen

We just returned from five nights staying with Karen and Paul at A Garden in Chelsea. What a wonderful find with such gracious hosts. The accommodations are terrific. We stayed in the one-bedroom unit on the third floor which was bright and airy, and quite spacious for anyplace in New York City. There is plenty of room to relax and unwind after hectic sightseeing days. Having a full kitchen is great, as we prefer to cook breakfast before venturing out. The bedroom in back is very quiet – you would hardly know you were in a large city. The location cannot be beat – close to the HighLine, Chelsea Market, lots of great restaurants, groceries stores and easy access to the subway. Karen was extremely helpful even before we arrived. She provided us with lots of good information and recommendations which we definitely followed and all were fantastic. It was wonderful that we were able to drop our bags off early on our arrival day, and also leave them later than check out time on our departure day, allowing us many extra hours to explore NYC. She also booked us a car to return to the airport, which was a very nice, stress-free way to end our travels. Many thanks to Karen and Paul for sharing their marvelous place in a wonderful city. We did not see everything we wanted, so we will definitely be back.

There are two accommodations- a studio apartment with either two twins or one king at the ground level or a large one bedroom two floors up with both a street view from the living room and garden view from the bedroom. The location is ideal mid-block on a quite street in the heart of Chelsea near the High line, the subway, and numerous restaurants. A completely different experience than a hotel. You can’t beat the hosts; friendly and helpful. Will we stay here again? Absolutely.
