I booked the Holiday Inn last minute for a 5 night holiday, and certainly got a good deal! The best part about the hotel is it’s location though (especially
Considering the good price); it’s a 2 minute walk to 28th St metro stop, and less than 10 minutes to Penn station with a wider variety of metro lines as well as the LIRR, which if you’re coming from JFK is extremely convenient! If you enjoy walking it is also only a 20 minute walk to Times Square. The area is swarming with bars and restaurants only a few minutes walk in any direction. The rooms aren’t the biggest, but the beds are extremely comfortable and it is clean—on a city break vacation you shouldn’t be spending time in a hotel anyways!
The only reason I wouldn’t give this hotel a 5 star rating is because of the noise. There are building/renovation works taking place in the hotel (which isn’t advertised), and it is very noisy during the day. The workers don’t work on weekends, so it was nice and quiet, but during the week you couldn’t relax in your room, and don’t even think about a nap. All in all though, for what we paid, this was a great find!

I can see there have been many reviews regarding less thsn stellar customer service at this hotel, so I wanted to acknowledge a good interaction. We checked in with Aaron who was professional, efficient and very pleasant.

The location of this hotel is fantastic, especially for the price we paid. It's within easy walking distance of Times Square, Macy's, Madison Square Garden etc with extensive food choices in the vicinity. However, with this fantastic location comes nuisances such as early morning construction noises which will disturb your sleep, so take that into consideration when booking.

Thank you so much for taking time out to give us a positive review. Aaron will be excited to find out he left a great impression with you guys. Our location is definitely a plus as we are right in the middle of Chelsea with close proximity to basically everything you can ask for. I know the construction noise was very annoying and we truly apologize for that as we are working to update our appearance. We will try and work harder to finish this construction as soon as possible so your next time around this wouldn't be an issue.

This is not a luxury hotel by any means. Traveled with four friends for a girls weekend at Christmastime in NY, and it was the most reasonably priced hotel we could find for the area and time of year. It is as basic as it gets, but we weren’t there for the hotel, we were in NYC for the city…the beds were comfortable, we didn’t have any problem getting an elevator up to floor 12 at any time of the day. The lobby is stripped down, not large or comfortable, but suits the purpose. The bathrooms are like closets, but are recently remodeled and clean. Shower pressure was non existent but there was plenty of hot, hot water….outside noise level is average for the city, but it wouldn’t bother me anyway as earplugs are my friend when sharing rooms with friends…rooms were also recently remodeled and clean. Some other reviews complained about staff, we experienced no issues at all. The $50 charge for room deposit that someone else complained about was nothing more than a pending charge on your credit card, and was not ever put through. If you are not in need of luxury and a basic room is all you require, this hotel checks the boxes.

This hotel is perfectly acceptable. It offers clean and comfortable rooms, competent and friendly staff, a very desirable location, and a good price. The rooms are small, which is typical for NYC unless you are paying big bucks. It is not a “destination hotel” with luxurious rooms and amenities. It is a comfortable hotel to sleep and bathe in while you enjoy all the city has to offer. My room was as quiet as can be for NYC. If you aren’t on a high floor at at $500+/night hotel, you can expect to hear sirens, trucks, and people — you are in NYC! The negative reviews here are probably from first-time visitors who don’t know what to expect in the city or thought they would get champagne on a beer budget. If you are a tourist, stay here and spend your vacation money on a show, fine dining, and seeing all the sights! I stayed 1 night for a business event. I’d stay again next time I have a meeting in Chelsea.

I only paid $125 for a clean, small, comfortable room in the heart of Manhattan on a Thursday night, with a killer view of the Empire State Building. The desk chair was ripped and the clock had the wrong time, but so what? Then at 3:30 am the guests down the hall got back drunk from wherever they had been. They commenced a loud “after party” that was still going at 7:30 am. I have never before experienced a hotel situation in which my room door was,I guess, so thin or poorly constructed that I was listening to the voices of people inside a room down the hall. That was when I got the impression that the hotel is really a place to have a party in a central location with a movie-set backdrop out of the window. If you stay here with any intention to sleep between about 2 am onwards, wear professional hearing protection, or find a different hotel. You are warned! Oh, also, there was no lobby security before 9 pm. Anyone off the street could have entered the building and gone into the elevator and up to the narrow, dimly-lit hallway of my floor without being noticed by the front desk staff.

The front desk staff were very friendly and the room was immaculate. The bed was very comfortable.

Good luck!

First, just let me say that the hotel itself was fine and the staff was friendly and helpful. Our plane was delayed and they offered immediately to give us a late checkout - we didn't have to ask. However, having said that it can't make up for the current situation. We were traveling with our daughter and grandkids (my sister's family including her granddaughter were also in the same hotel). People were allowed to stand right beside the front door and smoke pot. I don't mean somewhere close by, I mean literrally to the left of the door (if you were walking in). One couple stood out there smoking one after the other. So it reeked of pot. Inside you could smell it, in the lobby, in the elevator, and in the halls. I don't mean you'd get a whiff of it, I mean a strong smell. Even when they opened the bar/restaurant door, the smell just poured out of it. My understanding is NY passed a law that says you can smoke pot anywhere that you can legally smoke a cigarette. You can't smoke cigarettes inside the hotel and I am pretty certain you should not smoke them right beside doorways. There didn't seem to be any attempts to stop it, as I said, the one couple stood out there smoking for hours and were right back the next morning. It seems like a new problem all over NYC, as the smell was everywhere. We also stayed at another Holiday Inn in NYC (Times Square). They had security there and there was no one standing at the door smoking pot, nor did the place reek of pot. For this reason, I would strongly recommend not staying here with kids and not staying here if you don't want to smell it constantly. We have emailed the management twice through IHG and get no reply or explanation of how this is ok, so I assume it will continue. Oh, you also have to ask for a coffee pot and coffee for your room. They have removed them and don't mention it to you. There is no coffee in the lobby, either.

The rooms, although small, were clean and serviced daily, towels and bed linen were adequate. Bathroom was clean, but this was also very small. The location of the hotel was by far the most positive aspect of our stay.
Disliked · Breakfast: a pantomime - the most bizarre system we have ever encountered! On the first morning, we were sent out to collect vouchers at Reception, before even being allowed a coffee! This was not pointed out at all during check-in. When the two unfriendly male staff demanded our vouchers and brought the breakfast menu we were told that the voucher entitled us to choose ONE item only, and even a glass of juice was extra! This is not the standard we have come to expect from Holiday Inn, and was a huge disappointment during our stay. The following 2 mornings proceeded in much the same way. Room facilities: we had taken a kettle for morning tea as we had read that there would only be a coffee maker in our room. This was indeed the case….however, the machine did not work at all, and there were no cups or mugs in which to brew our tea! My husband asked politely at Reception if we could have 2 mugs, only to be refused, with no explanation other than “ it is not permitted”. He then went into the breakfast room, pointed at 2 mugs, and asked if he could take them to our room, again to be refused with no clear explanation for this most extraordinary regulation. Check-in was complicated and stressful: the indifferent young man at the desk refused to accept that we had booked 2 rooms, until I showed my confirmation email, which stated clearly that we had indeed booked and paid for 2 rooms. There was no apology for not being able to find this on their system, and not even a courteous “enjoy your stay”.

Greetings Margarett, Glad to hear that you find our hotel clean and its location convenient. We are sorry for the lack of explanation of the coupon system during check-in and will definitely re-train the front desk team to do that. Our Keurig coffee machines can actually boil hot water as well, but I am sorry to hear that the machine was not functioning properly. We do have extras in storage for the situation. Our supplier has unfortunately been short-stocked on coffee cups and almost a month delayed in delivering them to the hotel. We were able to procure some from another vendor a few days ago, but do apologize for the inconvenience that it had caused. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss this further. Property is in disrepair, room was not cleaned during entire stay, numerous safety problems, garbage piled in front of hotel. staff appears overwhelmed and burned out, rooms are very small, restaurante is not worth your time. It seems as if this property is using COVID as an excuse not to provide any standard services.

Brilliant hotel! Great location. Front desk helpful. Rooms really cosy and beds comfortable. No problems with the lift easy access. Cleaners came in everyday and made our beds and fresh towels and they even extended our check out until 12pm. Not noisy at all! Fab hotel will definitely stay again and I highly recommend!! Ignore the bad reviews!

This was my 4th visit to NYC, but first time staying at this hotel. Everything was great about my stay, I cannot fault it. The hotel is an excellent location, particularly as I was mainly visiting for an event at Madison Square Garden, and was recently refurbished. I stayed in a King Bed Standard room on the 9th floor facing West 26th St. Was pleasantly surprised at how quiet it was for Manhattan, especially not far from Times Square! All rooms in NYC are small but this was perfect for a solo traveller, might be a little tighter for a couple. Would not recommend more than 2 people in a room. The bed was huge and very comfy with lots of pillows to choose from. There was plenty of hangers and space for clothes. Bathroom was stocked with Dove toiletries and a good-sized shower with great temperature and water pressure. Was able to get a late check out with no issues, and they also loaned me a mini fridge for the duration of my stay. There is a microwave and drinks vending machine on level 4. There was also an ice machine but it was out of order when I was there. There are no resort fees but there is a $50 holding deposit for incidentals upon check in. Jonathan and the team were great in addressing my queries before my stay and responding promptly when I followed up on my $50 deposit a couple of weeks after my stay. I didn't get a chance to try the restaurant downstairs. Would stay again with no hesitation.

My wife and I used the attached restaurant, Gypsy Rose, which is part of the hotel building. We bought our breakfast independently from the hotel and not through the booking. Both my wife and I had the fresh pancakes, mine with bacon, my wife’s with fresh fruit, syrup with tea and coffee. From memory it was around the $35 to $40 for the both of us. I have to add it was always fresh and very tasty.
