The Ludlow is very cute - small rooms but cute. If you want to impress your friends with your super cool hotel choice pics, then this is the place to stay - however, the room reeked of cigarette smoke the entire time (including “new” cigarette smoke over and over). Couldn’t tell if it came through the vent system or not? It was like sleeping inside of an ashtray. When we mentioned it to the front desk their suggestion was to “spray it down.” Few other issues - beds are creaky but cute. Vent system has a really loud hum to it. The “coolness” factor is over done unless, maybe, you’re younger then 25 years old which is the majority clientele. Overall it was a giant “meh.” It made me long for a blander but cleaner and quieter hotel stay somewhere else.

Hi ClemmyB, Thank you for your review. I am sorry about the unpleasant odor during your stay. The Ludlow hotel is a non-smoking property, and we make every effort to ensure that all of our guests respect this rule. Unfortunately, we are unable to prevent guests from smoking in their rooms completely. While all of our rooms do feature independent HVAC systems, we know that cigarette smoke is a very pervasive and unpleasant odor. Our housekeeping team is aware of the best practices to reduce the scent in rooms such as yours while we attempt to find the offending guest. I am sorry that our front desk team did not appear to take your concern as seriously as they should have and we will be following up with all of our agents regarding our standards for handling these issues. I do hope that you were able to enjoy your stay with us aside from this matter. Should your travels bring you back to the Lower East Side, I would love to welcome you back. Best, Joe

My wife and I visited NYC for a week to visit our daughter who just moved to the east side of Manhattan. She recommended we stay in the lower east side, and voila, we chose the Ludlow. And we loved it. We had a terrace king with a great city view. We loved our room, with a wonderful bed, fancy bathroom, and plenty of workspace. The staff is very attentive and it’s hard to find a better front desk. On the weekend the bar is quite the happening spot, but the bartenders are still some of the best around. One night we hosted cocktails and hors d’ouvres from the bar on the roof, which is a fantastic spot to have fun. The neighborhood can be a noisy at night and weekends, but that comes with the territory in an area populated with young people and cool bars and restaurants. Thanks Ludlow!

Hi Tommymac1963, I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay with us, and that you were able to share the view from our rooftop patio with your friends. The view from the 20th floor is spectacular (and the view from your room's terrace on the 15th isn't bad either!). I hope that you'll think of us the next time you come to visit your daughter, and look forward to welcoming you back! Best, Joe

The Lower East Side isn't for everybody but whether you're looking to party with Gen Z (oof) or seeking a respite from that scene, The Ludlow is an excellent pick for all. The interior decor is warm and quirky with a vintage charm, and the rooms (at least our Studio King) are efficiently laid out with ample seating space and plenty of personality. Service was excellent from the get-go, and we felt that they were taking every precaution necessary amid the pandemic. Our only gripe was the lack of a view from our room. I recommend splurging for a higher floor and requesting a view!

Staff was extremely nice, lobby was so inviting with great interior design, and the room was super clean. Would definitely recommend upgrading to a slightly bigger room as even the Loft King room was a little small (it is NYC). We stayed in the Loft King Room (Room 1211) and it was decorated so well, and also had a window in the shower as well as a small Juliette type balcony. Very cool views of LES and Soho. Only downside is mildly inconvenient proximity to the subway, about a 7 minute walk to the F and a 12 minute walk to the 6. Also the streets are a little noisy on a Friday night, even on a high floor.

Great hotel. Multiple stays here and we never get tired of the area. People are nice. Rooms are great. Bathrooms very clean and the shower is like standing under Niagara Falls. Great views of the city. Easy walk to cross the Williamsburg Bridge into Brooklyn. Across the street from Katz’s Deli and down the block from Russ and Daughters. Need I say more.
