Nice lobby. Cute hotel rooms. A/c in room failed to work all 4 nights. Multiple service calls and never fixed. At least we could open 1 window and only a few flies slept with us. Central to a lot of things in town. Loved being close to Central Park

since we arrived everything has been wrong. first they gave us a room with everything dirty, the bathroom door super old and damaged and the most serious thing, an air conditioner with a noise that did not let us sleep. Terrible service, they have no solutions, they are rude and everything is always your fault. The second night we called to complain about the noise, they hung up the phone because there was nothing to do and it was my fault for not calling beforehand. That morning when we changed rooms we left our bags in the lobby and we had a gift (food) left in the fridge and last night they told us that they had no solution for the time and that it was our fault for not calling before and that it was thrown away, that we find out in the morning, I went down to find out in the morning and they only told me that they throw it way. I do not recommend the hotel, the only nice thing is the lobby, not even the name.

This was once an ok hotel. The location can not be beat...but the rooms are woefully outdated..peeling paint, smelly cigarette stinking carpets...outdated bathrooms, terrible a/c...and nasty staff. No one answered the phone at the front desk or concierge...they charge an added a mandatory $23 to cover two mini warm water bottles...no ice...no restaurant or room service...really terrible. The worst thing that happened is that they gave a key to an incoming guest...who barged into our room while we were still there...I was about to head out to a meeting leaving my 12 year old daughter in the room when this big guy burst in unannounced saying the front desk had given him the key! Needless to say I did not leave my daughter there...she came to the b'fast meeting. I would never stay here again.

Thank you Julie for your review. I am truly sorry to read your feedback and I can assure you this is an isolated incident and not an accurate representation of our hotel. My sincere apologies for any inconvenience and we are reviewing your feedback with our team. We do have the Empire Rooftop that is open daily from 12 noon for your food and beverage needs and have two other restaurants attached to our hotel. Sincerely, Robert Holmes

I have stayed here previously and it was pretty good...but this time it was horrible. I heard they shut down over the pandemic and then couldn't hire their regular staff back...so the service was dreadful. We booked a jr. suite..expecting an adjoining room with a fold out couch...and it was just a regular room with a couch uncomfortably plopped in ... not acceptable at all. We had to take an additonal room...the room we had smelled of cigarette smoke...despite the hotel claiming to be smoke free...we complained and they offered to come up and spray...so I'm guessing we are not the first. We declined as that seemed like it would make it worse...the room was really unpleasant..the decor shabby...and the people working the front desk were not helpful at all. We asked for a second room...the offered it for a discount and then charged the full amount. They also added $23 for wifi and water bottles...just ugh.

Thank you B4131bx for your review. I am sorry to hear we did not exceed your expectations for your recent visit to NYC and I can assure you this is an isolated incident and not an accurate representation of the level of service we strive to provide each guest that chooses to stay with us. We are a smoke free facility and this includes our rooftop terrace. The residence fee also gives you access to our rooftop pool and gym. I am confident given another opportunity we can exceed your expectations as we have done so in the past. We look forward to another opportunity to win you as a repeat guest of the Empire. Again, sincere apologies for any inconvenience. Sincerely, Robert Holmes

Stayed there with a group for a wedding. A very nice boutique hotel experience. Double room was very small but very clean and the beds were some of the more comfortable I’ve slept in during hotel stays. The location was a five star for sure! Very nice, clean area that felt very safe. Walking distance to amazing restaurants, Central Park, right across from Lincoln Center, a little more than a mile away from Times Square, two blocks from Columbus Circle and subway, etc. So close to so many amazing things to do but the area around the hotel was never super crowded. Loved that! Housekeeping was wonderful and cleaned the room every day. Front desk very friendly. AC in the room ran the entire time to keep it cool and was obviously an older unit but the room stayed comfortable. Hallways were dark but I think that was park of the art deco look they were going for in the overall look. Not necessarily a family vibe…felt more like a place for adults, friends, couples, to have the chill NYC experience. Would come back with my husband in a heartbeat.

What a pleasant surprise when pulling up to the hotel - location, location, location! Right across the street from Lincoln Center, a small park, with plenty of stores within walking distance. Taxis traversing the streets on both sides, so easy to hail them to get to wherever you're going. Denis the bellman kindly brought my bags into the keenly designed, comfortable black, white and gold lobby. Our room overlooked Lincoln Center - enjoyed the music on the plaza during the day. Inviting king bed, good air conditioning, plenty of room to work . Rooftop pool and bar is great! Be sure to reserve bar right away for outdoor seating.

Adam changed my experience here from good to exceptional. Adam went out of his way to not only switch my room, but then personally checked in with me later and the next day. He was kind and genuine... it was the best customer service I have experienced at any hotel. He is a million dollar asset to the Empire, a diamond in the customer service world, and I am truly grateful.

Stayed 5/26-5/28 - Upon check in found the front desk staff rude. not hospitable at all (the young lady at the front desk projected distain for guests). We had called a few weeks earlier to ask about early check-in policy (we took a red-eye to NYC) are elderly and needed to rest, we were informed Empire could accommodate us. When low-and-behold upon arrival our friendly desk clerk said our room would NOT be available until sometime between 1-2, we would receive a text to let us know (never received a text). Room 438 smelled like mildew, tiny bathroom smelled unclean and also of mildew, no bathroom counter space, carpet in room was unclean, furniture is chipped, old, ceiling stains and cracks and the floor is uneven...causing multiple tripping. This boutique hotel needs to provide ALOT more for the money they charge, despite the easy location. I will NOT be staying here again. Hospitality is ALL in the details in which this hotel sorely lacks.

This place was far beyond what I expected. The lobby Andy rooftop are so cool, the pool was amazing. I had difficulty with my television and I told Adam and Herman my issues and how it was my anniversary and asking if it could be fixed. They went above and beyond for me and resolved my issues. They were truly amazing staff and great location I would recommend to anyone

My husband and I went to NYC for a vacation, and had booked a room at the Empire for three nights. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. First the drawbacks: the air conditioners were noisy, and we had an inner room where you could hear the building’s climate control system or whatever it was. I bought earplugs and used them one night but really, it was more “white noise” and did not disturb my sleep much. The other thing we found annoying was we wanted to go to the rooftop bar for a drink a couple of times but were told there was no room. We could not even go up and check for ourselves, there is a bellman at the elevator who decides who can go up and who can’t. I got the feeling that we were not the “beautiful people”. But I am probably just imagining that…at least, I hope so. The pool was not open because it wasn’t summer yet…fair enough…and the gym was closed for renovations. Anyway, for the pluses…the room was fairly spacious for a NYC hotel, and I was impressed with the very comfortable bed. The housekeeper did a fantastic job of cleaning the room. The location was superb…right near Columbus Circle and a short walk to Central Park, Hell’s Kitchen, lots of restaurants and the subway. Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful. The price was reasonable considering the location. I would definitely stay here again.
