Once a social club for Williams College, this century-old brownstone is now The William, a boutique hotel. Stunning beaux-arts architecture and an unbeatable location. Each stylish room includes delicious coffee and a Roku for streaming. Daily housekeeping is also available, so don’t worry about tidying up your space. Downstairs, enjoy British-style dishes at The Shakespeare or a craft cocktail at The Raines Law Room. Endless landmarks are just steps away from your front door. Snap a picture of the world’s largest train terminal at Grand Central. Wander through four acres of greenery at Bryant Park. Or capture a birdseye view of NYC from the Empire State Building. The Big Apple is yours for the taking at The William. This is a central location and prone to noise. There is no luggage storage. Please see the front desk for assistance. The building is accessible by stairs only. The layout, furniture, and color of your space may vary from what's shown here.

This Sonder take over at The William was very disappointing! Everything was based on Virtual check in and lacked customer support. The front desk receptionist was nice but it seemed as if I was checking into a "house party". Not very sophisticated at all. The room was large but hallow and the room lacked cleanliness. I was unable to get hot water to run in the shower and I turned every knob. Definitely a down grade!! Will not return! The only benefit is the location.

Our stay at The William was excellent ! We’ve really appreciate the welcome, the kindness of the employees, the comfort and the cleanness of the room. An other good thing is the location, close The Grand Central Station, subways and trains. I hope we’ll return in NYC and at The William !

Perhaps if you have never stayed at the William before Sonder took it over, you might think this was an OK place...Unlike a big high-rise hotel, it is in a lovely brownstone in convenient midtown Manhattan. That said, I stayed many times over the years at The William and always loved my stay...until now. The current experience is nothing like it was, and not in a good way. It appears that Sonder is trying to transform the hotel into its apartment model where everything is virtual, but the system is broken and definitely not customer centered. It is impossible to call the hotel so even though I requested a room in the back of the hotel on-line and in a call with Sonder; upon arrival, I discovered that my room was facing the street...unacceptable. And even though the Manager Cecily kindly tried her best to find me another room for two nights, they were fully booked, so I ended up cancelling my second night. My one and only night at Sonder the William was pretty miserable---The TV is Roku only and there was no signal...and since there is no one there after 7PM, I had no TV at all. There is also no phone in the room, so a guest is basically on her/his own. The Nespresso coffee that they advertise is no longer there. I had an old Hamilton Beach coffeemaker that didn't work too well. I did get a bathtub, but when I turned on the water, lots of black floating objects came out...Really nasty. No bottled water, not even for sale, no paper or pencil, no colorful flip flops like before...and it was cold. The heat didn't appear to work either...Although I switched it on, it just shut off. And the paint is chipping. Not the colorful warm inviting place that it used to be. It appears that Sonder has really dropped the ball at The William. This was my first stay with Sonder...and definitely will be my last.

Filthy, nothing was cleaned. There was hair on everything including the bed linens. There was even a bug in the bed. When told about it, I never heard from them. Just a terrible experience. Definitely wouldn't not recommend.

A good experience and we intend to return. The rooms have a striking use of color and the bed was comfortable. It was clean, quiet, and a good value. Well-located near Grand Central Station and Bryant Park. The staff was accommodating.

Had a 2 double bed room, was very large with high ceilings, good size kitchenette & bathroom. Modern decor, loved the design & comfy beds along with a large sofa, 2 armchairs & coffee table which was great for relaxing & feeling like you had a seperate space other than just your bed. We were located on the 2nd floor so had music noise from the bar below do used earplugs to sleep. Aircon & the fridge we’re also noisy so if you’re a light sleeper then bring earplugs! The laundry was also super handy as we stayed for 10 days. Short walk to cafes, supermarket, Grand Central station so location was great. Doormen both lovely too.

My stay at The William was pretty perfect. The location was a huge asset, an easy walk to everything and extremely quiet at the same time!! The room was a a great size, the bed was probably the most comfortable bed I’ve ever had in a hotel, and the rain shower was exquisite at the end of a day walking the city. The staff could not have been more lovely.

As stylish and comfortable as any boutique hotel in NYC, but low-key and small-enough to make you feel like their most important guest. Excellent location as well, and English pub in the basement is a nice option for a meal or drink after work.

Unhappy experience. Very unfriendly people at the counter. Very unhelpful and inconsiderate. Especially the lady at the counter was being difficult for the sake of being difficult and not helpful at all. She was not understanding.

Good location. Room was ok. They had it set up for 1 person even though we booked the stay for 2 so we had to ask the front desk for the second set of towels and another plate& mug. The picture on the Web made the room look bigger so we were surprised when we saw it in person. We also expected bolder, bigger blue accents based on the picture on the Web. A little disappointed but it was still a nice room for NYC and we enjoyed our stay.
