Hotel Hugo garners appreciation for its comfortable beds and the rooftop lounge's views, making it a hit with guests looking for rest and scenic spots. The location is another highlight, with its close proximity to SoHo and the West Village offering both convenience and a peaceful setting. However, some guests have pointed out issues with shower water pressure and have had less than stellar experiences with service speed and room readiness. Additionally, there's a sense of dissatisfaction regarding hidden fees and the overall value proposition of the hotel. Despite the general praise for cleanliness and staff friendliness, the mixed reviews on room size, decor, and maintenance, along with the atmosphere, suggest that experiences at Hotel Hugo can vary.

I stayed the weekend at Hotel Hugo and had the most incredible experience. We were greeted at the front desk by Gigi Supapo and she was extremely warm and helpful. She gave great suggestions for how to make the most of our stay at the hotel and how to navigate the area. So grateful for the professional and generous service she provided that made for one of my favorite trips to the City!

Positives:

I will say when we first got to the hotel and our room wasn’t ready, they were great about holding baggage. They also did this the second day since we weren’t going to be back till after check out time.

The elevator was pretty quick. Only issue was the lower level wait. Other than that it was pretty fast to get upstairs or back down to the lobby.

Pretty views from the bar on the top floor of the hotel.

Negatives:

The staff was overall not very receptive to issues with cleanliness that occurred. The head housekeeper was defensive and said the dust covering most of the furniture was due to the “construction” next door. Then she explained that the floor had marks on it when I showed her that it clearly was not vacuumed. Upon entry into the bathroom I found a bloody tissue behind the toilet which was pretty disturbing. It was clear that the room was not fully cleaned. I wish she had been more receptive to my concerns as it was just gross.

They were incredibly stingy about water. After we had issues with the cleanliness of the room I asked for some water to be brought up. They said the room only comes with one but they would bring some up. The housekeeper who said she would bring some never did.

The manager was incredibly rude. When I went down to let him know about the room being dirty he asked me why I hadn’t come down sooner. Honestly when we got into the room I realized it wasn’t clean but since we were only staying 1 night I figured we could suck it up. That was until an hour later when I went to use the bathroom and saw that the floor was covered in hair and that there was a used bloody tissue on the floor. The fact that he questioned my timing was very uncomfortable and that I had to then explain why I had decided to come down.

They really didn’t do anything to try and make up for the gross room or issues we encountered. I think they could do a better job of accepting when there is an issue and apologizing for it. There was absolutely no concern shown from the staff. They did compensate us for the facility fee, however I don’t think that was enough for what we encountered.

I definitely would not stay here again. It had a weird vibe and I think the staff contributed to that. Not worth your money to be uncomfortable especially when you want a fun trip in NYC.

I'm glad we stayed here but a little too far west for my taste. Best part was that you can find free parking in the area on the weekends. Hotel itself not bad. Lobby looking tired. Front desk crew great but is there a bellhop or concierge to help with taxis or car parking or luggage? Hard to find....No restaurant for now as it is being updated so can't comment on that. Rooms were very comfortable and clean with comfy mattresses and awesome thick towels. Rooms also very quiet, only hearing noise from a few insensitive guests that were loud in the hall. All the rooms are very close to the elevator so good for those with mobility issues. Very convenient to Soho/Canal Street.

The bed was pretty comfortable and tv had good channels. That’s the only good thing I have to say about the room. The room was very small but that was expected. Windows are absolutely filthy and the rug had stains. When I took a shower, I noticed strands of blonde hair scattered throughout the shower tiles. The garbage tins in the room did not have a plastic lining and were moldy and rusty inside. This place is not clean at all. Housekeeping is not available daily due to the pandemic. If you need towels or any assistance you have to contact the front desk and they will provide you with new sheets or whatever you need. We were put in a room facing a construction courtyard and all we heard was drill noise even with the windows closed and AC on. Keep in mind you cannot change your room once you enter due to the regulations at the moment. Speaking of the AC unit, cool air wasn’t a problem but at night the noise was very distracting. We often heard a creaking noise and other sounds coming from the walls. As for the amenities, nothing is open in the hotel due to the pandemic other than the outdoor rooftop which is first come first served. Upon first glance, the space is nice and view is great. However, you will have a very hard time trying to get a table. There is no standing space at the moment, only tables. Everyday after 5pm, there is a line outside FULL of people trying to get on the rooftop. Hotel guests are not prioritized for a table and you cannot make a reservation if you are less than 6 people. The amenity charge is still $29 daily for absolutely nothing. When I asked what the amenity fee is for they mentioned it is now unfortunately limited only for the wifi, coffee/tea in room and the rooftop (that you can’t even be on due to the traffic it gets being open to the public). Tea was not offered in the room only coffee, and the coffee machine was too dirty to even touch. WiFi should already be a part of the nightly room cost. If the amenities are limited then the fee should be smaller. Rip off. Also, If you are planning to leave your bags after check out don’t bother because you can’t. We were unable to do so because of the pandemic.

I’m only giving two stars because of the location. Conveniently located by the pier, soho, little Italy and much more where you can find endless restaurants and shops.

After having to attend 2 funerals for my family earlier in the week I treated myself to a stay in Soho to relax. The “boutique” hotel was under construction and upon check in they rudely informed me my baby was not allowed on the roof. Okay, fine. So they have heavy doors and they hire a doorman to sit on his phone and stare but not help me while I’m struggling through with a stroller. I stayed 3 nights and requested late check out the day before my last as my gold member courtesy which the man kindly gave me until 3 pm. The next morning 1030 am someone came in my room and ran out after I responded hello? The front desk called and it was the manager, Daniel, whom was the rudest one of all saying they thought I checked out. No.. I asked for late and he told me no such thing and responded with the worst attitude that I will be out at 1 Pm or charged. I told him to look at his schedule from night shift last night because it was confirmed. He said I should’ve confirmed it again and since I didn’t I need to leave. I left shortly after because I did not want to be in an unsafe area. I had to request cleaning service each day or no one came, causing me to take baby out at 5 Pm after being out all day in the cold. Finally no one came after I called 2 times for a service on my keurig in the room. So no coffee. Will not return. Sad service and Daniel’s way of handling issues.

My boyfriend and I stayed here last night and entered the experience with high hopes and expectations as we were celebrating our 5 year anniversary. Upon arrival, the hotel seemed like it had potential and that it could offer us a romantic boutique hotel stay but our time at Hotel Hugo was anything but that. We had booked a Loft Suite and apart from what I will get into about the lack of cleanliness by housekeeping in this establishment, let me also say that the room is not even close to being worthy of almost $500. When we got to the room it was unsanitary. There was dog hair everywhere, cup stains on the tables and smudge marks of dust, dirt and grime that my boyfriend ended up using a wet washcloth to try and scrub (see attached photo). Unacceptable! It was as if Hotel Hugo sticks to the bare minimum and that it holds an incredibly low standard for itself. Cleanliness and good hygiene are imperative no matter where you stay! When booking the reservation, we were told we’d be given a complimentary bottle of champagne in honor of our anniversary and that it would be brought to our room. When it was dropped off in our room it was warm and with no ice or champagne flutes so we had to call the front desk to ask for some to which they told us we had to go down and retrieve both things ourselves.
We both felt it was necessary to speak our mind and share our frustration when talking to the concierge Maruan. He ended up being accommodating as he could tell we were unhappy and disappointed and allowed us to move to a Deluxe King room instead. This room was smaller and good in the sense that price wise it was of better value but still needed serious help since my boyfriend used yet another washcloth to wipe down the drawers since they were filthy. Not okay! Especially during these Covid times. You want your guests to feel safe and in good hands, not the opposite.
There is more that I could get into but I will stick to sharing this for now. Overall we both felt that we weren’t taken care of on a personal level and that when a staff member was trying to resolve an issue it was met with a lackadaisical response. The way Hotel Hugo is being run is a real problem and needs to make the necessary fixes in order to meet quality hotel standards. I only hope that they really look into making the proper adjustments so that their hotel guests aren’t doing a job their housekeeping employees should be doing. We will not be returning to this establishment as our experience was nothing close to satisfactory.

The room was disgusting and the workers were not wearing a mask so we checked out immediately. When we tried to get a refund for the stay after the fact the manager yelled and lied about trying to be accommodating when she in fact was not. They lied about us not checking out, and lied about offering us a different room. They did no such thing. All dining options were closed and room service was not even an option, despite the website stating it was. Overall it was a terrible experience.

Hotel Hugo has now became my favorite place to stay when I am in the city! From greeting at the front desk to the beautiful and super clean rooms. The hotel is in a perfect location downtown. I was able to find parking on the street during the weekend I stayed which was amazing and super rare in Manhattan. I would like to say that Marwan, at the front desk was very accommodating when I originally made the reservations and helped me pick out just the right room. He was professional and extremely helpful. I would highly recommend Hotel Hugo to anyone who is looking to stay somewhere in Downtown New York.

We are frequent travelers to the city and have stayed all over. After reading mostly positive reviews and calling the hotel directly before booking regarding room size, we decided to give Hotel Hugo a try.

Let me start with the positives. We liked the location, it is easy to walk all over the soho area and the river. We liked the price. Parking was convenient. The rooftop view is wonderful. The hotel is quiet allowing for sound sleep. The staff are the real highlight of this property.

Now for the cons. Room size is ridiculously small. When I called I was given square footage size and when checking in asked about the room size and was told we were given one of the largest rooms. There is absolutely no way the quoted size met our actual room. There were drawers for clothing in the room that could not even be opened as they were blocked by a small bedside table. One side of the bed had only about 14 inches. We could not both be moving in the room at the same time.

The bathroom has mold and filth in the shower and floor area. Marble counter is cracked. Bath mats with 3 holes are given to guests for use.

I have provided pics to show a realistic photo of the room size. The photos on the website should be removed, they are not accurate.

We had a week-long stay at Hugo, and it was great. The room was spacious (we did a small upgrade which was completely worth it), worked from the hotel, had cocktails on the 17th floor rooftop, and the location is great in Soho - not in the epicenter but just off to the west, great for a quieter stay right in the middle of downtown.

Most of all, Gigi, who is at the front desk was so lovely, helped us upgrade, and was so delightful to work with. We had such a good stay that we extended a few days extra!
