The location is very central - hard to beat right next to Times Square. My first room smelled heavily of smoke, even though this hotel is nonsmoking. (Another user explained that Hotel Mela was temporarily a homeless shelter - that explains that.) Arturo at the front desk was a champ in answering all my questions and changing me to another room. Even though my second room still smelled of smoke, it was tolerable. There were stains on the carpet and the walls, but I paid them little mind since it was just a place for me to sleep at night. The toiletries were adequate, and the towels were thin but sufficient. Despite the smoke having seeped into the bedside furniture, the bed itself felt perfectly clean, and the mattress was very comfortable; however, the sheets were too thin for my taste. The hotel staff members were all very kind and responsive. Overall, my stay at Hotel Mela was just alright - it got the job done, nothing spectacular, and at an affordable price for the area. Next time, however, I'll probably stay elsewhere.

Their phone number directs you to email. The email bounces back. The "Contact" button the website doesn't appear to go thru. They are taking reservations, through various sites, but not sure if there is anyone actually there. Can someone verify if they are still in business?

When the NYC gets "underway" and OPEN FOR BUSINESS... Take advice from a resident that lives in the City on W44th... DO NOT BOOK AT MELA NYC W44th... NOOO! The hotel has turned it's property into a temporary Men's Homeless Shelter during the COVID 19 Outbreak in NYC... NOT ONE of the homeless occupants that were coming and going out of the Hotel “observed" ANY FORM of protection... OR... SOCIAL DISTANCING! The environment inside the Mela Hotel was extremely unsafe! MANY of the occupants were homeless drug users... mentally disturbed… and…parolees… MELA HOTEL DID NOT thoroughly clean the property once they opened it up to the public …. NO NEW TOILETS… the smell in the rooms … horrid… During the COVID lockdown the MELA had occupants that used those rooms like alleyways!… The Mgt of the MELA did NOT sanitize that facility enough! I would NOT trust the safety of those rooms for your health… NO! Booking in NYC after AUG?.... BEWARE of the MELA HOTEL NYC on W44th

The location is very good, but not the best, the general state of the hotel could and should be improved since is a really old building with not the best mainteinance. Rooms are small, and could use a renovation. Personal is all right, and there is no other facility: restaurant, parking, for example. For us it was a matter of using it as a secondary option, since others were not available.
