The New York Hilton Midtown garners mixed reviews, with its prime location being a highlight for guests eager to explore nearby attractions. However, service experiences have been inconsistent, ranging from commendable to lacking. While some guests appreciate the spaciousness of the rooms, many find them outdated and not well-equipped. Noise levels also vary, with disturbances reported by some visitors. Amenities and atmosphere are frequently criticized for not meeting expectations, and despite the hotel's cleanliness, issues with value, including hidden fees and high costs, are a common concern among travelers.

This is a large hotel with many rooms minimally implemented with minimalist, but comfortable furniture. The bed allows for a good rest; In the case of twin double beds (2 beds), the space is so reduced that it is not enough for a sofa. In the rooms with 1 King double bed, there is a sofa that is very comfortable.
It has an empty mini refrigerator that serves very well to keep your own food.
They do not provide bottled water and only provide glasses; No plates or cutlery if you want to eat something in the room.
The supplies in the bathroom are bottled and upon check-in you must check if the bottles have shampoo or soap.
The check-in process is very fast, but they only grant the room at 3 p.m.; It is impossible to request a check-out later than 12 noon. They have a cellar to store luggage for free only upon entry; upon discharge, it must be paid.
In general, the attention is good. 1 and a half blocks away there is an excellent market to buy prepared food and delicatessen. The hotel is conveniently located in downtown Manhattan within walking distance of many of the city's iconic sites.

Very mixed feelings. The things I was happy about:
1) my room didn't smell like pet dander and smoke.
2) Also, it was very quiet.

The things that made me quite unhappy:
1) There was an incline leading to the bathroom covered with fairly new carpet decorated with a vertical design making it hard to see the incline. I slipped and fell. Thankfully, I am in fairly good shape even as I am an aging woman. Sitting in a hot tub of water and taking Tylenol helped tremendously. It could have been far worse. I made shared all with the kind security guy who came to complete the report after I emailed the Front Office about this ordeal.
2) There was no coffeemaker in my room. One has to pay $1 or so for a hot cup of water at the grab and go store on the first floor. If the line was long, it was easier to go out in the cold to find an outdoor vendor. Of course, the grab and go store was pricey even if the employees with one exception -- yes, he never told me I had a discount because I was attending a conference at the hotel unlike his peers -- were quite kind. Yes, a tuna sandwich was $19!
3) I gave the front desk agent my personal credit card for incidentals. My company's credit card covered the room. Of course, my company has informed me today that the incidentals (in short, the pricey tuna sandwiches, hot water etc) are on my company card. Now, I must wait to hear more from the Finance Dept which is closed on the weekend.

Yes, I was there for a conference and yes, I had a very low room rate owing to the hundreds of people in my organization attending the conference but I would have spent a lot more if things weren't so obviously off. No coffeemaker? You're kidding?

Shout out to Mohi and Fatima for being kind. Yes, there was hair in my bathroom but I am sure the housekeepers are overworked. There were just two front desk agents working when I checked in and a long line of people attending the conference I was attending. Cutbacks here and elsewhere make me increasingly inclined to want to stay at home. I know everyone is trying to make up financially for whatever losses that are real and not, but it's simply ridiculous. Value rarely equates with the cash going out anymore. All that said, I would stay here again if they at least gave me a coffee maker. And yes, do try the nearby Starbucks (where you may or may not get your order correctly prepared) or best of all, try those nice men with their little trucks on every corner. Even their prices are higher than usual, but they are diligent and you can still get your breakfast sandwich and tea/coffee or lunch/dinner in a fairly quick fashion.

PS I will not share photos of the incline in the floor that proved slippery partly because of the vertical design and coated new carpet, but I have them. Sad.

We’ve just returned from a week at this hotel. It has some good and bad points but overall we would recommend it.
As others have said, the location is great with all the mid and uptown attractions within walking distance. There are also several subway stations nearby.
It’s a huge hotel so be prepared for everything that goes with that. You may have to wait a hour to check in if you arrive on a Friday evening as we did, at other times there was no queue at all. The same goes for the lifts, at peak times you may wait 20 minutes for one to stop on your floor, so get up early and get out! We had breakfast included and it was a very good and varied buffet, I’m not sure it would have been worth $44.95 each though which was cost if you had to pay.
We booked a room on a high floor and got the 35th, but could still hear the sirens in the street below (there are plenty of them). However, for the most part we slept well and heard nothing from our neighbours.
The room was clean and quite big, comfortable but not luxurious. A comparison to an English hotel would be a Premier Inn. Yes the bathroom was small and looking a bit careworn but remember you’re on a city break and return to sleep before you go again, the room was fine.
You will be charged the $35 per day occupancy tax but can use it as credit in the bar or the Herb and Kitchen cafe, which has a variety of different food, drinks, tinned confectionery etc. Everything in there is exorbitantly priced but at least you get something, we used it to buy gifts for the family back home.
We didn’t have a lot of interaction with the hotel staff but the ones we did speak to were pleasant enough, particularly the staff in the restaurant.
If you’re happy in a busy hotel environment then you’ll be fine here, if you like somewhere with a bit more of a personal touch then you might be better looking elsewhere.

Have just returned from a 5 night stay at the Hilton Midtown with my wife and 11 year old daughter. I really cannot fault the hotel and I would definitely book again or recommend to anyone. The hotel, for me, is in the perfect location as a base for being so close to some of New York's premier attractions. After full days and evenings out exploring Manhattan it was always a pleasure to come back to the hotel as it felt very safe and welcoming with a constant buzz that all the various tourists and other guests bring. When exploring lower Manhattan we found it easy to find our way to 6th Ave to get a taxi straight route to the hotel. It was also good for the subway. All staff we encountered were extremely friendly. Our room was perfect for our needs and had everything we could have wanted. We also found it to be very quiet at night (no noise from the corridors or adjacent rooms). We stayed on a bed and breakfast rate and thought the breakfast was fresh and plentiful to set us up for the day. If you're in New York as a tourist looking to visit all the main attractions I'd absolutely recommend it.

We stayed for 4 nights. We checked in around 17:30pm with Anne, she was really friendly, helpful and gave us all the information regarding charges etc. There was only 1 lift working in the bank of lifts we needed but it never made us wait long. I imagine if a lot of people were checking in, it may have been a problem. It was fixed after 2 days. Our room was clean, airy and sufficient. The beds were comfy and pillows like clouds after the busy days. The shower was a hot power shower. There was a hairdryer, iron, ironing board and fridge as well as a free safe. There was no kettle but we’d done our research and taken a travel kettle with us. There was an ice machine available on our floor. The views were amazing from our room (2309). The cleaners came everyday and changed pillow cases, fresh towels. We had paid for breakfast each day, the service was excellent and we found the waiters friendly and efficient, always there to top coffee up. There was plenty to choose from. We got there around 7:30am each morning so it wasn’t too busy, the last morning we got there at 8.30am and had to queue to get in. There was always plenty to choose from and fresh top ups regularly. We used our ‘credit’ in the bar (2 g&t’s $50), on room service (chicken pizza and fries $45) and in the shop for take away sandwich (pastrami $18 each). All was good quality and we enjoyed them. The best thing is the location. It was so close to Times Square, shops, Rockefeller tree. Our holding fee/deposit was refunded/reversed on my debit card after 1 week. We had an amazing time -and I would recommend this hotel.

Stayed for a week here on a British Airways Holidays package. Firstly it's a great location, several subway stations within one or two blocks walk, and just a short walk from Central Park, the Rockfeller Center, Times Square, and much more.

The rooms (and hotel) won't win any special prizes for beauty, but found it all very clean and tidy, with the rooms huge (we had two Queen beds and comfortable room for a couple of suitcases and other bags), which isn't always the case in New York. Beds were very comfortable (although after 30k steps I think any bed would be) and the cleaning services was excellent, with the room kept in good condition daily.

Found all of the staff we dealt with friendly and helpful, and bagged an early check in (for $100) and late check out ($139), which while on the pricey side pretty much gave us an extra day and a half. Admittedly we were very early with check in, but didn't have queues either on arrival or departure and only really saw queues at the desks at very peek hours (early evening).

There is a $35 daily (per room) resort fee, but was easy to spend this as credit either in the bar or the very well stocked deli (perfect for grabbing a drink or snack when coming back late as believe it's open until 1am).

In short it's a very large, business style hotel (and would say the bar area is slightly undersized for the number of rooms), but if that doesn't bother you and you want somewhere clean, comfortable, and central to stay that is easy to come and go from, wouldn't hesitate to recommend or to stay here again.

Great location, right on the 6th Avenue and 53/52nd Street. There is a subway station right on the other side of the block 7th/53rd which you can get a number of different lines around Manhatten. Hotel gets quite busy for check in so if you can checkin beforehand I would recommend. Hotel room was lovely, had a twin room. There is a fridge, had to hunt for the hairdryer, but there are NO coffee making facilities in the room. There are full size Crabtree and Evelyn shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Also an iron. Handsoap is also provided and a little box containing a hair tie and shower cap, but is not replaced every day. Bed was very comfortable indeed, and plenty of pillows. There is a small safe in the room. The TV is really quite large. Some of the plug sockets weren't great and didn't really charge/work. I do find American electrical sockets ineffective in general. Heating / a/c worked well. If you go to customer services, they gave us a voucher to use in some local restaurants with 15% off, very useful. There is a store where you can get food and hot drinks at all times. It sells deserts, salads, filled rolls, pizza, ice cream etc if you don't want a large meal in the evening. There is a bar and a separate bar which you can have a smallish selection of pub food. Breakfast was very good. American breakfast was charged at $49, but we had free breakfast with our deal. Very large selection of cornflakes, pastries, breads, cold meat and cheese, yogurts, pancakes and waffles, sausages, scrambled egg, bacon and they also can make omelets to order. There is a little gift shop there for any last minute gifts. You can also leave your luggage after checkout, but they charge $5 per case/bag. Hotel also charges $35 pn plus tax and state tax, so about $40 per room per night on top.

Definitely would stay again as ideal location.

Stayed from 2nd December for 5 nights

Booked what we thought was Hilton Hotel, Midtown Manhattan

Paid £2,200

Couple of days before departure we got an email to say check in on 37th floor, when we arrived you don't check in at the main lobby area you check in on 37th floor basically a computer behind a small desk by the lifts.

Must be 2 hotels in one, still don't understand as others have comments the attitude of the people who work there is just about acceptable, zero idea of customer service.
Tried to ask what the set up was but no-one seemed interested.

My parter asked for more coffee in the room and accidentally went to the main lobby reception the staff said 'we don't have coffee in the rooms' which is rather strange since she had been drinking it for the last how many days.
When we reported it to the small computer desk on the 37th floor it was then replaced.

When we first arrived the shower gel was empty asked politely for it to be refilled but it wasn't and had to ask again which is unacceptable.

On the safe in the room it says don't use this safe use the one in the lobby area. On the first day we asked where the safe in the lobby was and the staff said why just use the one in the room. Very confusing.

Found a squashed sweet by the bed which was put in the bin, it was bright red so don't know how the cleaners didn't see it.

after paying 2.2k they still wanted $20 to store our bags for a few hours on the last day

On a positive note the hotel is in a fantastic location.

The most we have ever spent on a hotel, wasn't impressed and will not be back!!!!!!

Have checked out of this hotel today. Positives are the rooms were cleaned daily, and the cleaners were very good. Sharon at the executive lounge desk was incredible and the only staff member that actually had a conversation with us the whole trip. The location was also very good. Now to the negatives. Our checkout was 12 and we had cleaners knocking on our door at 3 separate occasions to check if we’d gone. I am pregnant and was having a rest prior to a long day of travelling and kept getting disturbed. We checked out at 12 and asked to put our luggage aside so that we could go for lunch. We were told to go to the luggage room where there was a charge of $5 per bag per day which is ridiculous and something we have never experienced before. My husband has travelled all over the world and never had this issue. Also the gentleman manning the luggage desk was so rude and direct. After we had checked out we came back to the hotel early as it was very cold outside, we asked if we could access the executive lounge still and the answer was point blank no. Surely following staying for 5 nights there isn’t a harm for us to stay in the lounge for 1 extra hour. The hotel just didn’t go above and beyond. We have stayed in so many Hilton hotels and I will never stay at a Hilton again

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're glad to hear you found your suite clean and that Sharon at the executive desk was helpful during your stay. We strive to create a positive experience for all of our guests, and it is rewarding to know that she made a difference for you. We also appreciate you highlighting the great location of our hotel. However, we sincerely apologize for the disturbances you experienced with the cleaning staff and for not being able to rest as you needed. This is certainly not the level of comfort we aim to provide, and we will address this with our team to ensure our guests are not disturbed during their stay. Regarding the luggage storage, we apologize if the charge came as a surprise. We do offer complimentary luggage storage before check-in, but there is a small fee after check-out, which helps us manage the space efficiently. We apologize for any inconvenience, and we will take your feedback into consideration to ensure better communication about the policy moving forward. We also regret that the luggage desk and the executive lounge experience did not meet your expectations. We will review this matter as well. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts and we hope you will reconsider staying with Hilton properties again. Sincerely, New York Hilton Midtown Team NYCNH_FO@hilton.com

One of the worst Hilton’s we’ve stayed at from a Diamond membership perspective for my husband. I can see why a lot of reviews are negative and I think if it were not for location this hotel would not even get 4 star rating. Where to begin……….. there are very few staff members who are friendly and welcoming, in particular the people who work on reception and some who work in the Exec lounge. The exception to that is the woman who stands at the entrance to the Exec lounge and one of the barmen in the larger bar. My husband has been advised to drink decaffeinated coffee for his health so he asked a guy in the Exec lounge if he could get a decaffeinated coffee when the machines were broken. The guy who worked there said no and walked away yet following day a lady went into the kitchen and got him one. No free water, you have to go to the Exec lounge and get it yourself. The food in the exec lounge between 5pm and 7pm is very limited and quite disgusting. Chicken wings with horrible poor quality chicken, samosa type things and horrible dry cheese with dry flatbread and bit of fruit. No alcohol. Flat coke in machines. Closes at 10pm so if you want a coffee or tea when coming in from eating out, forget it. Also no tea/coffee making facility in rooms. Destination fee includes $35 mandatory daily fee redeemable for food or drink (cannot. Arty over and combine), therefore trying to get you to stay there every day and use the bar. Don’t worry, it will be you one drink each then go out to eat. Also $25 daily fee for laundry, regardless of whether you use it or not (can be combined) The woman, Kim, on reception tried to bill us for it when we checked out. Finally $5 for each and every bad you ask them to keep in store on day of departure. Outsourced to a third party so that’s who you are paying. All in all a shockingly bad experience never to be done again!
