Great design elements, large rooms for Manhattan, the bathrooms are particularly great looking. The service was first rate. And the views from the upper floors are sweeping. Wifi worked perfectly. Close to subway. That said, no bargains here. You get what you paid for: a stylish contemporary hotel with great service in the center of the LES scene. Low floors... More

I stayed at the Rivington with my daughter for Mother's day weekend. When we arrived I was a bit shocked because it didn't look like a hotel when we first walked in and no one mentioned the lobby would be on the second floor. But all of my worries went away once I checked in because the front desk staff... More

The views were great and the rooms were comfortable, clean and very modern, however the internet service is poor, cabs are virtually impossible to hail and the doormen aren't very helpful if they are present. It can also be very noisy on a Friday or Saturday night, if you are one not to enjoy the LES nightlife.

overnight stay this past saturday night. our son lives in the area and we come to visit occasionally. my feeling is the lodging component of this enterprise is not the first priority. the site is certainly ground zero for the young/party crowd and for them this hotel is the place to be. the ground floor/entry area is chaotic at best.... this is not a business hotel by any means. internet connection is appalling and drops in and out constantly. service very very patchy in the bar. no food on a sunday evening served. location is out of way, cabs are virtually impossible to hail and the doormen aren't hugely helpful. rooms are very sparse, not especially well appointed, mine faced... Location to happening lower east side/Williamsburg bridge couldn't be better for either shopping, eating or late night bar scene. Well designed and appointed bedroom including the perfect bathroom combination steam/shower/soaking tub space. What doesn't the place have? Enough Trained staff. Only one person at front desk. Left on hold to receptionist for way too long. Two security doormen but no... More

the internet connection here is so slow it's unusable - it's CAPPED at 256kpbs. that was below par in the 90s. it wasn't just slow while I was there. that speed is standard, and applies to both wired and wireless connections. I had to go off site just to check my email. you simply cannot do business at this hotel,... More

I love this place. I've stayed here on three separate occasions. As far as I know, it was the first hotel with floor to ceiling windows, and hardly any solid walls. The design is very minimal and striped back. Reception is on the first floor, so take the lift. The staff are very 'New York' - low on smiles, and... More

I have stayed at Rivington Apartment twice, for one night each time on business. Yet despite this, I was greeted like an old friend on my return, with a hand written card in my room to welcome me back. The staff on reception are always very helpful and the porters genuinely keen to help with luggage. Even my chambermaid was... More

We spent a week at the Rivington and enjoyed every minute of it. The understated entrance - no sign and a couple of guys at the door. The really efficient and helpful staff - nothing over the top and nothing too hard. Great views, great bed, best bath ever and the Lower East location. We did not eat at the... More

Staying in Lower East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Lower East Side
Straddling the bridge between New York’s thriving immigrant past and its modern transformation into a beacon of global art and culture, the Lower East Side is one of the most dynamic neighborhoods in the city. The blocks of tenements that represented the promise and blight of the Lower East Side immigrant experience now command top dollar for new residents. Right next to old-world delis, 24-hour bodegas, and the garment shops of Orchard Street, you’ll find hip clubs, fashionable bistros, and luxury hotels beckoning at all hours of the evening. If you love nightlife and live music, it’s hard to beat the scene here.
