The best things about this hotel is the room sizes, which are on the larger side for NYC for this price point. The kitchen is handy. It is not a full kitchen, but it has a small stovetop, microwave and minifridge - and a toaster. These were used and appreciated. The hotel is in a handy location, generally walkable to many destinations. The doormen were very friendly - one of them in particular who knows magic wowed our daughter by making a coin appear behind her ear! Only negatives are the furniture and decor, which is passable but on the tired side. Room layout is very odd, with a closet inside the bathroom. The doors to the room also were slamming very loud.
I recently attended a trade show in New York, and stayed at the Sonesta Affina 50. My daughter took the train down from Maryland, and she stayed at the same hotel in her own room. I had requested connecting rooms, or, at least, close together. Suffice to say, my room was on the 15th floor, and hers was on the 2nd floor. Other than that, the rooms were more roomy than other New York hotels, and we found the rooms clean and comfortable. The doormen were exceptionally friendly and helpful. There are many great restaurants within walking distance from the hotel.
The room was spacious, clean & beautifully decorated. Perfect location to walk to many landmarks-NYC public library, Bryant Park, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Times Square, Grand Central Station, Rock— Center. The staff could not have been more wonderful. They say “Welcome home” when you get back. Lovely touch. If and when we go back-this will be the only place we stay.
Recently stayed at the fifty sonesta . Everything was great . Room clean . Towels brought to room very quick. My only complaint was the front desk woman upon checking out. She was extremely rude . We were checking out . She was annoyed from the moment we asked her question . We asked if she would like the room keys back and she replied Nah , I’m good . I was very taken back by this as everyone in the hotel was so friendly and helpful .
Our stay was perfect in every way! The warmth and graciousness of the front desk staff, as well as the doormen made our stay so pleasant. Rooms were spacious and housekeeping efficient. The location was near public transportation and also walkable from much of our sightseeing.
The doormen we’re awesome. Very helpful and welcoming. I loved how they said welcome home every time we returned. Spent 4 nights and enjoyed it. Clean comfortable and great location. Multiple things to do and places to eat within a few blocks to 2 miles of the hotel. Try Sofia for dinner it’s a block away and was excellent. Try the NY luncheonette a few doors down for a great breakfast. Rooftop bar and restaurant next door. We did park our car here with no issue but this is an extra fee. I am told that it’s better to book through the hotel that the prices are better. Not sure if this is accurate. We booked through Expedia. Oh yes, each room gets 10 dollars a day to purchase water or snacks at the desk. Would stay here again.
I chose the Fifty Hotel for its proximity to Mem. Sloan Kettering and the discount they offer MSK patients. It did not disappoint! My husband, sister and I stayed in a larger room with a kitchenette, and it was perfect; extremely economical for the accommodations, which were clean, stylish and roomy. We even decided to spend an additional night! Several times we asked for additional items (like coffee) and the room service was amazingly prompt. The staff, especially the porters, were friendly and professional. I highly recommend this hotel and will stay again soon I hope!
Stayed here with husband and 2 teenager (boy and girl). Ideal walking distance to places like Rockefeller centre - observation deck, roller skating), 5th Ave (shopping), Times sq/42nd Street. There are ample food places nearby to eat in and takeaway. We arrived very late at night (3.00am) due to flight delays so were tired and hungry. We had asked for adjoining rooms or rooms close to each other well in advance of arrival (our travel agent had made request at time of booking and I had emailed twice with no response) so was disappointed when they had us on 2 separate floors, 11th and 16th floor. The hotel staff member wasn't as welcoming and not very empathetic when I explained we requested rooms together. He said I'd have to come down at 12pm and ask at the desk! The day staff and door men were all lovely, helpful and polite. They were always cheerful and happy to answer any questions. We had a twin rooms and they were spacious with big windows although one of ours faced on to other buildings (1611) and the other overlooked the street outside(1610). That was fine because we were out most days and didn't really need the view. Air con worked fine, housekeeping did come round quite early on few days had to turn them away (9am!) but they were just as lovely and polite. Rooms (incl bathroom) were cleaned well (behind the nightstand could've done with a thorough vacuum). Nightstand had sockets to plug in devices (USB ports would've been better) They also have a scale for you to weigh luggage. …
It is rare I submit negative reviews but this has be known. We stayed 8/5-8/7/22. We have stayed at Fifty Hotel for the past few years and have aways been happy. The staff especially ROMEO and SAMMY are so helpful and nice always!! First, I was sent a 30% off coupon and it was not valid. The AC barely worked and we had maintenance try to fix it 3 times. (it was 90 degrees out so VERY uncomfortable). The shower was clogged and thankfully my bf being a plumber pulled out a huge horsetail of hair to unclog it. The toilet seat needed to be screwed in which he also fixed. The rug was dirty so we did not not want to walk with bare feet. The chair was ripped. On Sunday when we checked out (8/7) , all elevators but 1 were working so it took forever to get downstairs with our luggage. For $700 for 2 nights, I will not be returning back to this hotel!!…
I and myself and my wife have stayed here a number of times. One time for almost a month. We consider this “New York residence.” Friendly and helpful staff. Clean and well appointed. Ideally located for a number of nearby place of interest and eating options.
