The Fifty Sonesta Select New York offers a range of experiences with its prime location earning consistent acclaim for its convenience to attractions and transit. While the hotel's cleanliness and amenities generally receive positive remarks, with special appreciation for the well-equipped kitchenettes and attentive doormen, opinions on the rooms and decor vary, describing them as comfortable yet sometimes outdated and in need of a refresh. Guests have mixed feelings about the value, noting unexpected fees but also some satisfactory offerings. The service is mostly regarded as friendly, though incidents of unresponsiveness have been reported.

Our party of three arrived midafternoon for a 4-night stay on a Thursday. The hotel front doors were accessible with your room key to minimize people entering the building – but they did have the doorman to open the door for you as well. We were greeted by Joe and he checked us in quickly. The check-in setup provided the social distancing required, but still provided the opportunity to connect with staff. We were given a quick rundown of local area points of interest – such as a local supermarket, local Starbucks, etc. Even though we are very familiar with the area, this information was great to have as not everything was open during our stay. They had a UV sanitizer on the table for use – which I thought was a great idea. We were lucky enough to get an upgrade to a suite on the 18th floor – 1801. Our room faced the back of the building, but we were very happy in this suite. The living room, kitchen and small balcony were all extras that we enjoyed – we loved having the extra TV so we didn’t have to argue about what we were going to watch. Our room was nice and cool which made for excellent sleeping conditions. The room had plenty of closets – two in the bedroom, one in the hallway and one in the living room. Hand sanitizer machines were right by the elevator and we used them every time we got on and off the elevator. The one on the 18th floor smelled very nice. This is our second stay here and we just found out there is an ice machine in the building (4th floor!) and we used it every day!

Everyone was so nice and made us feel super comfortable while staying here.

Housekeeping service was provided daily which was very nice as some hotels have not been offering it.

My daughter did say that Saturday night sounded like there was a party in one of the nearby rooms as she heard the door banging shut all night long. When we passed the room early in the morning, it still sounded like the guests were having tons of fun in there.

We spent one night at the Fifty Hotel & Suites while visiting family in New York City. Upon arriving to the location the valet appeared to be backed with multiple cars double parked in the street. The bell man informed us valet was running behind and we could leave our keys and they'd get to the car in about 20 minutes. Since we were concerned about being double parked we ended up driving 1 block over to a garage as we didn't want to risk getting a ticket, the garage saved us $8.
After finally returning to hotel we found you needed a room key to enter the hotel ( which we appreciated later that night when there was lots of unruley people roaming the area).
Upon check in we were greeted with a modern lobby with nice art and a seating area. Check in was seamless as the reservation was prepayed via Expedia $105. PreCovid the hotel offered a nightly guest reception that includeed wine and treats, since this was not happening due to social distancing they offered a $10 credit towards their pantry stocked with beer, wine & snacks.
We were assigned room 1501 which was a standard king bedroom. The room had ample space which is rare in NYC hotels as well as plenty of outlets.
With that said we did have a few issues during our stay. Be aware our room views were of dingy buildings. More importantly our thermostat didn't function properly on a warm April day the cooling function wouldn't seem to work which made our room uncomfortable. In addition, the fan in the bathroom was not working so after taking a shower the ceiling was left with condensation which resulted in mold on the ceiling.
We pointed out these issues to the manager and they were apologetic and refunded our 'resort fee' saying they'd resolve the problem before the next guest arrived.
Overall it was an average stay. The hotel has potential to be great with it's prime location, spacious rooms and a reasonably competitive rate ( minus the 45 dollar resort fee which is absurd). If your staying in the future be sure to ask about maybe getting a room with a better view. For video of our stay find us on YouTube at jenichael's journey.

clean hotel, helpful staff, if several of you are going then there is plenty of room so you don't feel crushed in a room together. 3 of us shared a room may have been a suite, 2 good double beds and a sofa bed that was really rather comfy. room has a kitchenette as well with fridge microwave and hob so we did our own breakfast every morning. free wine early evening was a bonus and whilst you have to pay a daily fee on top of the room cost, you do get vouchers back against it to spend on the bits available in the hotel. good diner next to the hotel, go out and turn right. An easy walk to times square, chrysler building, central station etc.

Our room was surprisingly large especially for a Manhattan hotel. It fit our family of six comfortably. We booked the junior suite with a terrace. My husband enjoyed sitting outside in the morning, drinking his coffee. I even had enough room to lay out my yoga mat and practice yoga everyday (and with the stress of traveling with 4 kids, I needed it). The gym was adequate for a quick work out. They have a lounge on the second floor where I was able to take a 30-minute business call with no interruptions. Our room was clean. The small kitchen and refrigerator allowed us to buy basic food (milk), fruits, bottled water etc. We had Amazon fresh delivery twice during our stay. Location is in midtown so expect a lot of activity during the weekday. Restaurants and shopping is everywhere. Service was always friendly. The basic laundry room also allowed us to travel light since I was able to do laundry for our 10-day trip. We will definitely stay again.

We have stayed at Fifty Hotel & Suites by Affinia many times. We originally chose this location because my husband has been visiting MSK frequently and the location is convenient to those appointments. Aside from the location convenience, we are partial to the special care that we receive at this hotel.
Our last visit was from March 3-5. We had several issues with our room(a hairdryer/outlet problem, and a heating problem) that were handled quickly and satisfactorily.
We will be back!

Traveling for the first time during Covid, I expected some blips because it is what it is. First time back to NYC and originally was supposed to quarantine for 4 days then right before travel, new regulation-Have vaccine, get out of quarantine free card!! Booked this hotel originally due to quarantine because it had a kitchen plus having family on the East Side, this hotel was convenient to their place. Quick check in, friendly doorman and front desk. Went up to room and unfortunately, it wasn't cleaned. Back to front desk and explained the situation. Apologies and could we give them about an hour to rectify the situation. Having lived in NYC, we went out and ate...great food all around the hotel. Returned to the hotel and was given a different room. BOY!!! Did we get a HUGE different room! We had originally booked a 1 bedroom suite and what we were given in exchange was a one bedroom suite with a terrace. If this was an apartment, I would've bought it because it was so spacious. The housekeeping during the week was spotty maybe every other day. That was ok...didn't need new sheets everyday so we just asked for clean bath towels and they were delivered quickly. Will be traveling again the end of summer and will be staying here. Hopefully the Covid kinks will be worked out and can upgrade to Excellent my review.

Traveling with 2 adults and 3 children most hotels only allowed for 2 separate rooms and couldn’t guarantee adjoining rooms, which wouldn’t suffice for our too young kids. We got this room with 2 queen beds and a sofa sleeper expecting tight quarters. To our surprise the room was incredibly spacious, well functioning kitchenette to keep costs low for breakfast, comfortable mattresses and linens, great housekeeping, reception and door staff. A very welcome and pleasant surprise.

Briefly met another family in the elevator who felt the same way. A gem in NYC.

Highly recommend.

Our intial check in with the FIFTY went smoothly. We checked in late, but called in ahead and the lone front desk attendant was very accomodating. His name was Javon I believe. Everything went smootly until he became unsure about extra charges for parking past 12hrs. We asked what the additional rates were and he made a call to confirm. After a breif moment he said he must have made a mistake and said "you guys are good, there's no charge". Fast forward to our check out we're being charged double the agreed upon rate and the front desk attendant who's name I regret not getting, is treating my group and I in a manner as if we were lying. She smuggly gets her manager and he tells us that the policy is solid and that we can only pay the balance until they can get a hold of javon to confirm the allegations. My issue with this entire situation is that a representative of their company, Javon, assured us of the rate we were paying. Had this been a misunderstanding on my part I would have happily paid the bill. Instead this was a failure on that employees knowledge, the hotels training, and worst of all the managers lack of acceptance in resolving the issue. He just wanted the bill paid. We did end up paying as the conversation was going in circles, but I can guarantee that my next trip to NYC will not be with any affinia hotels. My friends and family will be sure to stray away. About the only standout positive aspect of our stay there was the bright and attentive doormen that seemed genuinely kind. Give them a raise!

My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Fifty for a long girls' weekend in Manhattan. We especially appreciated the doormen, Samuel and Romeo, who always greeted us with smiles and welcomed us "home" when we returned. They and the desk staff were friendly and responsive to any questions or requests we had. The rooms were neat and tidy, the beds and linens comfortable. The location was perfect for us with good restaurants and pubs close by, as well as a variety of coffee shops, the Luncheonette, CVS and a host of other fresh food delis. So conveniently located in midtown. We would definitely stay here again!

Overnight weekend stay was comfortable and pleasant. Room was large with kitchenette, which we did not really utilize, but handy. Beds were comfortable, elevators fast and room was quiet. However, I did not like the $40 facility fee, as I received nothing for this charge other than an $8 bottle of water. And it also would be nice if the front desk explained that the second floor was where breakfast was served and where they had the free wine hour. We also were not told where the gym was. A basic discussion about the amenities, especially ones we are paying for, does not seem like too much to expect.
