Writing this at 4am after the worst night’s sleep I have had in recent memory. The AC unit is so loud and has a persistent loud drip that started around midnight (could be the unit above was turned on then). In any case it’s unbearable and should be something that the hotel is regularly checking and maintaining. Clearly not in this case! Would not stay here again. Room is clean/reception is nice.
I spent a nite in late August 2021 at the Hotel Boutique at Grand Central. I was in Manhattan cause I had an early morning bicycle event and wanted to not have to drive down before the roosters wake up :). Its a lovely hotel and rooms are clean and mine offered a very nice view. Staff was lovely and friendly. blocks from Grand Central Station and NYC Subways and busses. Close shopping and restaurants. Some services were not running due to Covid but the hotel has lovely roof deck with great views and allows you to bring your beverages. I look forward to coming down and staying as my commuter rail stops in Grand Central and this would be a great way to have a nice over night vacation. Thanks to the hotel and staff for a nice stay.
Amazing stay. Awesome location just a block away from Grand Central. And the staff will help you with whatever you need. Next time we're in the city this is where we're hands down this is where we're staying!
Okay, its been 2 weeks now we are back and I am healthy and fine so seating down to write my review. Lets start at the beginning. Lets start with 5/5 stars. Booking – I booked through hotels.com because they give discount at times. The rate was good for 2 weeks and the site said they have microwave and refrigerator on request. I booked and immediately messaged the hotel. Please note they don’t reply on hotels.com messages. So I called them next day and I was told that they have added in the request. I felt satisfied and didn’t look for any other hotels. Before a week of our travel, I called the hotel to confirm if the request is still on our booking. The woman wasn’t convincing and told me that this type of rooms generally doesn’t have those!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! First of all it’s a collaboration between the hotel and hotels.com. If you do not honor requests for “these type” of rooms, don’t give the option on hotels.com. Anyways after a week of going back and forth, finally on Friday I was confirmed that we will get microwave and refrigerator. We shopped microwavable frozen food so that we don’t have to eat outside every day. Since it was such a mental torture to go back and forth, the rating was 2/5 at this time. Checking in – We reached around 2:30 pm. Elizabeth was at the front desk. She welcomed us with a smile and confirmed that our room is ready. She mentioned she had talked to me before and that how can I not remember her name but honestly I never talked directly to the hotel. Hotels.com was talking on my behalf. Anyways I kept that aside. Being able to get to the room faster and since the room was on 23rd floor, the rating changed to 4/5. Room – Loved the view from the room. We could see corner of the metlife building and usps, so it wasn’t too bad. The room was tiny for sure. It was a great size for a single person but not for two people. There was a queen size bed, a desk, a small closet, microwave, refrigerator. The bathroom was of good size. So all in all I would give 4/5. Service – There were no daily cleaning services which was absolutely okay for us. Whenever we requested for towels, they would leave it at our door. Whenever we had garbage full, we can leave it at the door. So I was satisfied with all these. Hotel Services – There is a rooftop on the 27th floor. Seeing that and the fact that you can work from there changed my rating to 5/5. The plug points don’t work on the rooftop, it works inside the room on the 27th floor. There is a restroom as well on the top. I took lot of my work calls from the 27th floor. We ate dinner couple of times up there. So I loved the rooftop access. Once when we were eating dinner, there was a family seating nearby and the daughter came and vomited right beside me which was yucky but that has nothing to do with the hotel though it did make my experience bad. Fitness center – This is where my experience was dicey. When we checked in, we weren’t told anything about the fitness center. We were told the fitness center is open 24 hrs and we can access it. We went the first day and couldn’t access it. Next day I went at the front desk and there was another lady other than Elizabeth and she told that I need to book to use it. It would have been nice to know it when we checked in but anyways I worked with her to book one hour per day. The fitness center was good. ATleats it served my purpose. I don’t think its cleaned after each use. I carried my own sanitizing wipes and I didn’t use the dumbbells because they looked dirty. One of the treadmills didn’t work. But I was happy with the peloton bike. I used that everyday and I loved it. Next day I couldn’t go in the time I had booked so I went to the front desk to look for alternate times. There was a taller lady in the front desk. I believe she was the manager. I don’t remember exactly her name because she always showed attitude and wasn’t welcoming at all and never introduced herself. We worked out an alternate time and when I came back at the new time, I was told that its booked by someone else who had it booked for 2 hours. That’s where I got completely dissatisfied. You didn’t think my time is valuable! I changed my plans so that I can work out at that time but you did not hold it for me. Anyways I asked the front desk if there is any limitation on how many hours we can book and she said no. So we booked 2 hours for rest of my 2 weeks because I workout more than an hour and it takes 5 mins for front desk to come and open the door for you and 5 mins in the start to sanitize before using and 5 mins at the end to wipe down everything. So 45 mins is not enough and I wasn’t told I couldn’t book more than an hour. Two days later I got a call from Elizabeth that there has been complaints that I have 2 hours booked. Who complained! How can other customers complain when your own hotel staff said I can book as many hours I want! I can complain that 6 am and Noon is always booked every time but when I go down there I don’t see anyone! DO I complain that why people are booking when they wont use it!!! There are ways to say it. Also on the door its written that one hotel guest can book for 1 hour. We are two people, two hotel guests so in that way we get 2 hours. Our schedules are different so we can very well workout at different times. Out of the 2 weeks, almost every alternate day I had to wait 10-15 mins and another time half an hour for someone to come and open the fitness center. Should I mope around and complain? Anyways rating goes down to 1/5 for the way I was treated. I felt completely embarrassed and didn’t feel valued. Front Desk – Elizabeth was always smiling so she was okay, just didn’t like the conversation about the fitness center and the refrigerator. She wasn’t attentive. The fridge wasn’t working and milk and icecream and all the frozen food we took went bad and I had food poisoning from that and I was sick for 2 days and I told Elizabeth, the fridge wasn’t changed and neither they apologized. I didn’t remind them for couple of days to see how attentive they are. No one came to check on the fridge. I reminded her again in the second week and they came with an even larger fridge and said they cannot take away the old fridge and it was blocking whatever little space we had so we said no. All my mental anxiety while booking was of no use!!! There was another lady who would be at the front desk generally in the evenings, she was the best out of everyone I met at the front desk. The manager was not welcoming like I said before. There were two gentlemen later in the week who weren’t attentive and welcoming as well. One of them who was a little taller and had no glasses didn’t send anyone to open the fitness center. The other gentlemen who wore glasses denied me bottle of water. It was a very hot afternoon and I forgot my water while going to the gym so I asked for water and he literally didn’t even look at me and looked outside and said you can go buy outside!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 0/5 There was a taller doorman, I think he was the best in behavior. Always smiling and talking to me. But unfortunately the rest of the staff weren’t that great so rating stays at 0/5. Checkout – We were able to hold our luggage till 7pm after checkout and wait at the 27th floor which was very helpful as it was raining cats and dogs and our train was delayed for hours. So rating back to 2/5. To summarize – Room was good. Refrigerator made me sick. Front desk was mostly full of attitude and not welcoming. Fitness center was good but to access it was a nightmare. 27th floor was the charm. The manager needs to change her attitude. Every guest should be treated with value.…
Room and service was very good, but what made this stay memorable was the staff. Friendly, warm, courteous, and so welcoming. I do a lot of traveling and few hotels have made me feel as welcome as this one. I would happily stay here again.
